A place for optimism, relentless positivity, anti-doomerism, and snuggle sessions.

We're all in this together, and a better world is possible!

This is now also a space for organizing tips for our collective survival as we confront climate change and everything else. Still no doom-posting. We're here to work together, support each other, and boldly face the future.

Rules:

  1. Familiarize yourself with the site-wide Code of Conduct

  2. No doom, no gloom, only bloom. There's plenty of room for doomerism elsewhere. This community is solely for having a positive outlook on the future and spreading good vibes.

  3. Be kind to your fellow users. This also means no arguing in the comm. Arguments and negativity are not conducive to blooming. Constructive discussion is good. No interest-policing. Support your comrades in their joy!

  4. Always share good news. We can't exactly enforce this one, but if you have good news, please share it with us! Keeping happiness and positivity to yourself is the twelfth type of liberalism.

Welcome to the first monthly bloomer megathread!

Once a month I'm going to pin one of these to give people a space to share the good things happening in their lives! It can be something big like international news that brightened your day, or something small like a cool bug you found.

Either way, if you need a place to escape the noise and boost your morale for a second, this is it!

This is a bit of a test to see if people really want a thread like this or if it kind of defeats the purpose of the comm. Feedback is welcome! If you want to be pinged when a new one of these drops, let me in the comments and if there's enough interest I'll make a ping list

The only rule is to keep the vibes chill!

My partner was successful at getting into a six week paid on the job training, with a six month (minimum) contract presumed to follow. First day was today and it's 4x10h days, so she'll be pooped. I'm so happy for her and we're gunna celebrate on Thursday with a friend

You probably do this already but get a cup of tea (or other fave drink) for them to get home to. always lights up my partner's face when she sees I've got a brew for her even when it's been a busy day for us both.

[–] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

doggirl-thumbsup yes! Tea is always a lovely treat to come home to

I never do nice things for myself, but I'm doing something nice for myself tomorrow. A movie I'm very excited for came out on Friday and it's important enough artistically I feel like I have to see it in theaters to support the project. Yeah I go to movie theaters like twice a year, if that. Well, tomorrow is one of those days I'm going to a theater, I'm going to watch Wildwood. I got the tickets dirt cheap and I'm gonna pay one of my friends $5 to drive me there instead of the absurdly priced uber.

Oh well, this month has been hell and I'm finally actually looking forward to something that isn't some form of work I'm being drastically underpaid for

cw weight loss and foodI lost a lot of weight because of work, I usually had to skip meals or just eat salad there most days. Thought I balanced it out by eating more on the weekend but nope so that's kinda nice. I had noticed how much faster I was going up stairs or running around to deal with emergencies. I honestly feel I can keep this up even unemployed just gonna have to do salad meals some days and gym going to make up for the lack of physical work I'm doing.

If there is one tradition I don't mind us here in AUS getting from US, it's halloween. It's a cute holiday as far as I know.

ohnoes There is going to be some dark history behind the holiday I don't know about, isn't there?

It commemorates the great skeleton war where many war crimes were commited by both sides.

[–] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Were both sides undead, or was it living v skeletons (great skeleton victory)

My partner's been depressed recently but the other day we went to bougie used game/anime paraphernalia store to poke around and when she lamented the cost of getting a certain game for 3DS, I immediately said, "Y'know, I can just hack yours and you can play whatever you want?" I spent a whole day loading that sucker up (mainly because it's so damn slow to download from hshop), lovingly organizing all the games she wanted and throwing in a bunch of extra stuff like a PS1 emulator and Tekken 2 since she had spoken fondly of it. When I showed her what that doohickey can do now she smiled and I saw some light come back to her eyes.

I've been struggling with my creative writing for a couple of years. Recently, feeling like I lost all my juice. About two months ago, I just sat down and had a hard think about what I wanted for my original characters and ultimately just started typing. Happy to report that now I have just reached the 150 page mark and am so immensely proud of myself. I finally managed to write a coherent piece for one of my oldest characters, and it rocks!

I joined an anarchist club. They have the biggest leftist library you've ever seen, a muay thai class, really good education/organising events, various workshops, and some very cool members. All food on the premises is vegan and they like to feed you. And it's also pretty queer and diverse.

[–] graymess@hexbear.net 3 points 3 days ago

That sounds amazing!

Feeding the strays outside, they come super close now to me, like 5 feet away when I fill their food bowl up. I also named them, Berry and Little Grey.

Yesterday I saw a black kitten on campus that I used to see almost everyday in August but that I hadn't seen in a month. It was still very friendly and still likes my headpats.

This month I've started a Minecraft server to play with my gf so that we can do fun stuff together despite the long distance, and I built quite a few farms so that she doesn't have to bother grinding for stuff if she doesn't want to. Also these past few days she's had a few job interviews that went well for some pretty great positions!!! I'm very excited for her!!

I finally convinced the medical system I should be on a GLP-1. I've already dropped like 5lbs in like two weeks after stalling at 214 for almost 6 months on the other medication I was on. No real side effects yet. I go up in dose this week, so we'll see how that goes. My liver needs this shit. I'm also happy that the person I'm working with now isn't pressuring me about working out after explaining how limited my time/space is. They also seemed to have more access to my medical records from my GP then they did previously, which cuts down on my least favorite health-care related activity, phone tag and information relay.

I have been reading Health Communism; it's good; people should read it.

Being a BJJ black belt is really cool. After over a decade, reaching that goal is a deeply satisfying feeling. I would do things like

Wearing the belt to the restaurant we went to celebrate afterwards

Washing it immediately after use so I could keep it by me

Sleeping next to it

Keeping it at my work station

Holding it when I get anxious

Comparing things in difficulty to getting a black belt

Thinking of things in relative difficulty if 1% of people get it

It's funny the way I feel accomplished in the sense that I have the thing itself, HAVING a belt, while the people around me celebrate that I HAVE BECOME a black belt.

I feel a sense of liberation and I think that's how I metabolize being enduringly happy about it. I can go do other sports that I left up on the shelf because there's an air of completeness. I did that thing that was supposed to be the equivalent of Naruto becoming the hokage. Only thing that's crazy to think about is that when I first stepped on the mat Luffy wasnt just on his journey too, he was IN THE NEW WORLD ALREADY. The series is unfathomably long
