Pretty sure donald was the eviler of two evils. The evilist of many evils.

[–] thevoidzero@lemmy.world 33 points 5 days ago (12 children)

Not really, because if people consistently choose the lesser evil. Like if 90% voted for lesser evils, then the other party would have to change things up, or there could be a new party that would have a chance of winning because they're competing for that 90% of people and no way would the evil party win.

But no, problems isn't choosing lesser evil, it's that significant people still choose evil

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 11 points 5 days ago

The problem is that, despite people swearing they never had any other choice, there has always been many instances of good options that go unchosen while the population fights over voting for turbo-evil vs naturally-aspirated-evil.

Here in Canada we have three main parties and people will do ANYTHING to justify why they cannot vote progressive and must vote for the centrist/conservative party because otherwise the conservative-conservatives might get power. Now we have a banker steam-rolling our people and our environment for free.

So instead of blaming the system that gave us two parties, you blame the voters who had no choice but to vote for two parties?

~Sounds solid. 👍~

Seriously. Someone let me know when we’re getting off the internet and rioting.

well i mean were we supposed to choose the greater of two evils?

[–] skisnow@lemmy.ca 6 points 4 days ago

I don't know what would be sadder: if all the various people in this thread posting variations of the above are wilfully missing the point, or, if they genuinely can't comprehend any other way.

Nope, it’s also a consequence of often choosing the greater evil.

And for favouring short term over long term planning.

And zero-sum thinking.

And us vs them mentality.

And a lack of critical thinking in general.

Pretty sure more than half of these elections we're choosing the worse evil

[–] Kintarian@lemmy.world 18 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I’m pretty sure we elected the worst of all evils

[–] KeithD@lemmy.nz 5 points 4 days ago (4 children)

The last few years are an example of what happens when you stop choosing the lesser evil.

Of course, what we should be doing is working on getting a non-evil to a position of being selectable. But who's got time or energy for that?

We as a society need to make posting AI slop as much of a taboo as, like, pissing on the side of a building. It should be something that you just don't do as a matter of decorum.

[–] cantstopthesignal@sh.itjust.works 24 points 5 days ago (27 children)

Should we have chosen the greater evil?

[–] CptOblivius@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago

I think we did a few times.

I have a feeling without that, the evil would have reached a lot sooner.

[–] the_q@piefed.social 67 points 6 days ago

Using AI for some tepid take about evil is fucking hilarious.

[–] calcopiritus@lemmy.world 22 points 5 days ago (19 children)

I don't understand. We're bush, Nixon, Reagan and trump the lesser of 2 evils? I'm pretty sure they're the cause of the current MAGAstan government.

Jeez...I hope this plan of not voting again works out for us this time.

Hmmm. Really seems like the government today is directly the result of not choosing the lesser evil 2 years ago.

It's not like picking the worse evil would get you to a better place either.

Actually we've chosen the worse of two evils about half the time.

Um, I'm pretty sure some of it was choosing the greater of two evils

[–] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 36 points 6 days ago (5 children)

OP must be Maga to think that Trump was a lesser evil than Kamala.

Ok then, so what's your solution? I'm still gonna vote for the lesser evil, while still organizing and doing direct action, to reduce harm unless presented with an alternative.

Maybe a candidate that's good? You could run for an office.

Edit: essentially I mean for the situation at hand, especially with this upcoming election, what else can we do?

That's just stupid... First of all, what are we supposed to do? Vote for the greater of two evils? Second, we DO vote for the greater of two evils!

Except that choosing the greater evil is what's gotten us exactly where we are. Nixon, Reagan, W, Trump = greater evil every time.

Pretty sure the greater of two evils won a whole bunch of times.

[–] Randelung@lemmy.world 19 points 6 days ago (14 children)

As opposed to choosing the greater evil for a change?

The actual issue is money in politics. It's the reason no politician wants voter reform. It's why Bernie never had a chance, not just as a presidential candidate. You need preferential voting, no more electoral college and no more Senate - pro rata representation only.
