/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

He's fully functional and programmed in multiple techniques!

on a scale of Vector the Cyber Unicorn to Night Drake Lil' Squirt, how "fully functional" are we talking about?

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Let's just say it likely involves a lot of lube... for his internal components that made Data the actual top warrior on the Enterprise, regardless of what Worf would have you believe.

If a new villain knocks Worf out easily, it's a sign they mean business and aren't a pushover and the crew and command of the Enterprise need to tread carefully to avoid casualties.

If a new villain knocks Data out easily, it's a sign the entire crew are in serious danger and there's a very good chance they are about to lose control of the ship.

Anyways, apply that principle to sex. He won't be so simple that an attempt will break hips, but he can calibrate the amount of power he does use based on the responses from his partner and experiment with more complex sequences with perfect memory of how each sequence was received. And, while I don't think his stamina is limitless, compared to humans it might as well be. Plus he can move fast enough to effectively turn any part of him into a vibrator (except maybe that part, unless he is set up for articulation beyond what humans can normally do).

Data, Lore, and their long lost sibling Bloodraven.

"I'm not a rectangle, I'm a square."

C'mon, Data understands category theory better than that!

It's like calling a Catholic a Christian if you're in the same room as a Protestant.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 8 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Androids are just hunanoid robots so I always thought that line was kinda silly.

[–] tiedigger@fedinsfw.app 4 points 4 days ago

Well actually it's a smartphone os

But in all truth androids are a well defined subgroup of robots

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 1 points 3 days ago

But astromech droids aren't humanoid...

[–] daggermoon@piefed.world 9 points 4 days ago

He's an android. Don't be rascist.

Hey so alternative culture isn't a Halloween costume. Like actually though. There's nothing "spooky season" about this look

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Which is exactly why I think we should use AI to add 1 scene that's 7 seconds long in the episode after Tasha Yar gets killed of Data opening up a makeup kit in front of a mirror. Then a goth phase literally no one talks about for the whole season. Away missions, Holodeck scenes, all of it, Data in full goth attire. More than one black lace dress. No change in voice or dialogue.

Then it just ends. No one says anything. Add in another 3 second cut of Riker and Picard giving each other a look when Data walks on to the bridge not dressed up for the first time.

Edit: Which isn't to say that Data "goes goth" is a dismissive phase. That in the exploration of what it means to be alive, Data plumbs the depths of human emotions and arrives, I think rightfully, expressing inner darkness. That everyone goes about without noticing it and commenting on it only speaks to the advanced nature of their society to let anyone process grief however they process. Even an android.

[–] beejboytyson@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

No, not true. Alternative culture is out of the norm, therefore it is frightening to normies. But at this point that poor culture has been fetishized so much I'd call it normal. Drake has a goth mommy.

[–] Vespair@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I mean, I guess. I'm not even like offended or anything, I just think this is stupid. Like you can of course wear this as a costume in the same way you can wear anything, but to me this is the same thing as if the bottom panel had Data all decked out in Knicks fans attire. It's Halloweeny if you wear it as a costume on Halloween, but that's the only Halloweeny thing about it. Alt people are dressing this way in May too 🤷‍♂️

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Lumberjacks dress as lumberjacks all year round but I'm still allowed to dress as a lumberjacks for Halloween 🤷

[–] beejboytyson@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Ya I get what you saying. Think about like it more like nurse or fireman outfit. That's just everyday attire for them.

[–] Snowcano@startrek.website 7 points 3 days ago

Hey, his ring has a Starfleet insignia, it’s regulation! Everyone just chill out!

I just keep thinking about Noel Fielding's character in The IT Crowd.

Richmond is out of his room who let Richmond out of the room

[–] pizza_the_hutt@sh.itjust.works 10 points 4 days ago

Data has the drip.

[–] okwhateverdude@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

[–] Sxan@piefed.zip 3 points 4 days ago

But would you say... it's hard to dispute the seasoning?
