Genuinely surprised that the western media hasn't tried to smear them by claiming they are "evil commie dictators". I suppose they're all in on the "primitive desert savages" propaganda instead.
There's enough racism in the western ""left"" to make it more viable to focus on the Islamic aesthetics and not the socialist ones.

It's more that introducing nuance to these things is not effective propoganda. You give people a line and stick to it, confusing the matter encourages investigation and independent thinking. Give them a simple answer ("They hate us for our freedoms") and they will repeat it forever, with only nerds wanting to make that phrase make sense.
It's like how liberals still portray Russia as communist.
Suppose some of that has lineage to the People's Republic of South Yemen. Yemen's socialist history is woefully underappreciated (even amongst us!)
Such a shame what happened to them.
