Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Why would your 13 year old son be proud of them

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 32 points 3 days ago

Having been a 13 year old son at one point, I would be damn proud of those.

[–] Karjalan@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

You just out dadded him

[–] Septimaeus@infosec.pub 7 points 3 days ago

Bobby, if you weren’t my son, I’d hug you.

Singular leaf of lettuce to keep the cardiac arrest away. 👍

[–] ChunderBustickles@piefed.nz 19 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Practically a load bearing lettuce leaf

[–] JennyLaFae@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 2 days ago (2 children)

The correct way to use lettuce is as a moisture barrier. The lettuce should be under the burger to keep the bottom bun from getting soggy

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I go bottom bun>cheese> meat> condiments>lettuce/otherstuff>top bun. Lettuce on bottom makes it slidy in my experience.

[–] isVeryLoud@lemmy.ca 1 points 21 hours ago

I love being bottom bun

[–] Zarobi@aussie.zone 3 points 2 days ago

That's smart as heck

[–] brem@lemmy.world 24 points 3 days ago (2 children)

You shouldn't have to unhinge your jaw or use a fork to eat a burger.

I think these burgers are actually his 13 year old son.

That's just sad. I don't get how he thinks it's not the greatest failure of his life.

Eh, probably just a bit, or hyperbole. I've seen redditors do worse in the name of fake internet points.

[–] snoons@lemmy.ca 16 points 3 days ago

My dad told me somewhat the same thing. I haven't spoken to him in years.

Day n+1 of me screaming "what the fuck is going on in America"

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I mean, based on this photo alone, I'd say delicious cheeseburgers are what's going on?

Like honestly, what's the issue with this?

[–] umbraroze@slrpnk.net 1 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I'm in Finland. There's this pizza/kebab/burger thing I go to sometimes. When I order burgers from there I always get flabbergasted. The burgers are massive. Huge. Cooked to perfection. Mini fry trays of fries, with way too much dip sauce.

You know things are top notch when you just resign your McDonald's expectations, admit in your sinful mortal heart that you were humbled, go pick up a knife and fork, and start attacking this behemoth.

So when I'm done, I'm impressed.

I expect that this is the baseline standard in America.

...And then I see stuff like this.

W- I don't even know how to articulate this. What's going on. Crooked fucking burgers, stuff just slapped on the board... w- I- um-...

WHAT.

Have I been lied to. What tragedies are happening in America that I am not being told about.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I'm confused... Have you ever actually tasted a burger like this? It's fucking fantastic.

I don't think they even look that bad, objectively. Crooked burgers? Huh? That's two patties, dawg.. Sometimes the top one isn't directly centered. Nobody cares.

[–] cojo5@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You expect that being impressed is the baseline standard in America?

[–] umbraroze@slrpnk.net 0 points 2 days ago

...Uh, I frankly don't know what you're talking about. I believe we're having some kind of a fundamental failure of a communication going on around here.

[–] GeneralEmergency@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This cheeseburger was the most disappointing thing since my son.

[–] fishy@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago

They honestly don't look good to me at all. Burnt bun, not enough lettuce, the cheese is wrong, the meat looks way over. Not sure this guy even put pickles.

[–] answersplease77@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If you make the patty yourself and this really is as tasty as it looks, you're wasting a 6-figure business opportunity by not starting a stand. Hire an assisstant and do it.

[–] CalypsoGirl@lemmy.today 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

You're talking to someone who screenshotted something from reddit.

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

THEY COULD BE RICH IF THEY HAD A STAND INSTEAD OF LEMMY! cough Sorry, I got a little excited there.
