The lesson is that a few years of hardship is worth it to eliminate our dependency on a country that elects a spoiled four year old in a constant tantrum.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

It is more nefarious than that. It looks like a big oil crash is coming that is going to devastate Asia, Australia, and Europe. Trump may be an idiot and an ass to boot but he is pulling all the levers to make oil tycoons very very wealthy in the future.

[–] imvii@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Trump said the U.S. was "stupidly run" before he got the job

LOL

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

From my perspective it's trump that's being taught a lesson in the true art of the deal, even though both sides are unnecessarily suffering for his antics.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 31 points 2 days ago (2 children)

The only "lesson" Canada is being taught is that we can't trust the USA and its leaders.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 days ago

oh, we've already been taught it. it's just being reinforced stronger every day

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago

We knew that before the BNA act.

"I'm not gonna lie this shit was some, some good exercise, like It's good to get out, get the pen workin'

You would be a worthy competitor if I was really a predator. "

"Canada has taken advantage of us for so many years. The worst of any country," Trump said.

Someone should tell this moron that repeating something excessively does not make it true.

[–] Jason2357@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

Guy has been doing it publically since the 80s, and probably all 8 decades of his life and it got him nothing but power and wealth.

Its the morons who listen to him that need to be straightened out.

[–] fyzzlefry@retrolemmy.com 76 points 2 days ago

Joseph Goebbels: “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

[–] scrodumb@lemmy.ca 32 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The only education the guy ever had was reading Mein Kampf.

This tracks.

[–] CapuccinoCoretto@lemmy.world 25 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Bold to think he can read.

[–] IamMoonPie@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I would say there’s a difference between reading and comprehension. He can read, but he has zero ability to comprehend what he’s reading. Anything requiring complex thought — nahh he’s doneskies.

Dear Canada,

Please consider invading California. Think of the win-win. You get San Diego, the movie industry, and better wine. We get health care, and safety for people who are different.

So come on down. We'll probably surrender. My wife and I are so polite, we're often mistaken for Canadians. We'll even learn to say "aboot."

Think aboot it, eh?

Sincerely,

Me

The only lesson Canadians are learning is to never trust the US again.

This rich spoiled shit bag has spent his entire life feeling entitled to get anything he wants, often using any means at his disposal to get it. And now he decided he is entitled to getting full control over Canada's natural and human resources. He thinks that by inflicting pain on our people it will allow him to enslave the entire country. He doesn't give a crap about the suffering he is causing on either side of the border.

And the dumb thing is that it will obviously never work. Trump is treating the country like it was a business or a property he wants to acquire because he's too dumb to understand the difference. It doesn't work the same way at all. Look at Ukraine. What Canada is going through is nothing compared to what the Ukrainians have endured for years now and they're still not giving up. Canada will be the same. Canadians are increasingly hostile to the idea of making any concessions to the US now and they will go through any hardship that is necessary to avoid their country to be taken over because they know they're still better off that way. All of that pain and loss of productivity will amount to nothing good.

This is an unprovoked attack. When this pedophile finally leaves the White House one way or another and someone who isn't absolutely batshit insane takes over, I hope Canada will demand reparations for the damage that the most corrupt and incompetent person the US government has ever allowed to preside over the country has caused.

[–] ArmchairAce1944@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

Canada needs to harden itself and its population in every single way imaginable.

The one mistake you are making is assuming that the next president will try to normalize relations and act like Trump never happened. This is not going to be the case. Vance is following in the same shit Trump is doing and there are a lot of true believers that Canada should be taken over by the United States.

[–] AzuranAurora@piefed.ca 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Until some very serious reform happens to America itself, I will never trust the United States. They will always be just one bad election from losing their fucking minds and going back on any and all promises and agreements and turning on allies. Even if the Dems win the midterms and possibly 2028, I don't trust that they'll do enough to stop this from happening again or even hold anybody accountable.

[–] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Exactly. Their three branches of government are all broken: executive too unrestrained, and too powerful; legislative too deadlocked, gerrymandered, and gerontocratic; judiciary too partisan, dogmatic, and corrupt.Their quasi-religious constitution is a relic that they spend more time worshipping than thinking about what a constitution is for.

[–] QueenHawlSera@piefed.social 12 points 2 days ago

I am begging the entire world to turn its back on America. America is not an adult, it is a child that was raised on action movies. That child is a fucking brat and will betray you the second an opening to do so is available, even if there's no reason to.

America needs to be told no, and have its toys taken away until it behaves.

I say this as an American.

[–] RodgeGrabTheCat@lemmy.ca 24 points 2 days ago (1 children)

We should teach trump a lesson called 'starve without potash'.

[–] nik282000@lemmy.ca 14 points 2 days ago (5 children)

How about 'electricity is now a luxury'.

[–] radiofreebc@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago
[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

All this fucking around weeks before the midterms. We'll see who gets "taught a little lesson".

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 days ago

Based on everything that's happened in the last 10 years, and how his camp has been preparing, I expect to see the Dem's lose even more.

They're not even putting up a fight though, they absolutely know how to get votes and what kinds of things the citizenry want, but those things go against their "donators" so they're never going to move to the left and actually get things fixed.

We're absolutely 100% going to watch America fall into civil war again in the best case scenario. Worst case is we get Fascist America until someone stronger destroys them and 75-100% of the planet with them.

[–] radish6367@lemmy.ca 44 points 2 days ago (2 children)

"I love the Canadian people, but the leaders have taken advantage of our stupid leadership for many, many years. They felt emboldened. … They act like they're totally innocent. They're not. They were very bad. But now they're being taught a little lesson."

That’s rich coming from a frequent visitor of Epstein Island (though I suppose no lessons have been learned in his case).

[–] scrodumb@lemmy.ca 27 points 2 days ago

He's saying they aren't smart enough to sit at our table.

He's right.

Gets cucked by China, Israel, can't pull out of Iran, bases destroyed, punches the nearest neighbour. Valuable lesson.

[–] ArmchairAce1944@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

And also seriously considering invading Cuba. I mean they are acting like they are somehow not in enough trouble in Iran that they want to start a war with Cuba!

Even Hitler wasn't so stupid as to want a war on two fronts. Trump thinks he can beat a country whose entire military doctrine is against US military capabilities, and Cuba has been incredibly resilient against US assault since the early 1960s. Canada might not stand up for an land invasion, but the long game favors a guerilla war that would make Afghanistan and Iraq look like a cake walk.

You know what was the difference between Iraqi insurgents vs. Afghan insurgents? Iraq had 'fancy' insurgents and an entire engineered guerilla war that had years of preparation by Saddam's forces. They had more resources and more dangerous equipment.

The Afghans were dirt motherfucking poor, an EOD who served there said that if they weren't using trash or garbage for material they weren't using anything at all. They were basically a bunch of brown, bearded, pissed off MacGuyvers.

Canada? Canada is a rich country with a preposterously overeducated population. The shit that Canadians can do far exceeds anything Iraqis or the Afghans can.

If the US invades the Canadian armed forces can fully clear out and disperse arms and explosive supplies far and wide to ex military and reservists, and despite gun laws passed and attempts at confiscations there are a fuckload of guns available in civilian hands that could be used by smaller groups, and for explosives we have tons of reserves for precursors that could be used in manufacture of IEDs.

The only thing that works in US favor is the intense surveillance and integrated intelligence apparatus that the US and Canada has. That is something that MUST go to safeguard both Canadian sovereignty and Canadian civilian safety.

The only “lesson” we are taught so far is to actively boycott anything US-made or US-adjacent. Hopefully we will never again sign up for any sort of “trade deal” of the size of NAFTA/CUSMA either, choosing to partner with friendlier and more trustworthy nations. So - thanks, Donald - you strengthened our national unity and helped us become even more resilient and independent than we’ve ever been.

@radish6367

Boy, if Prime Minister Carney had stolen between 400 million to 1 billion dollars from the US Defense Budget to refurbish a jet meant to be his private plane after he left office - I would be outraged as an American. However, that is what Mr. Trump has done with a 747 jet he solicited or extorted from Qatar. PM Carney is right not to let a mobster shake Canada down. Keep giving the orange rapist squatting in our Whitehouse the elbow!
