"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

It's called stalking, a crime even in the USA, Selling the home adress is not only an privacy issue, but a big security risk.

Property records are public in most areas of the US. Same with a ton of other records. These get scraped from government websites by data brokers, or shadey scraper companies that sell to data brokers. Then you just pay the data broker to search and get the info just like a google search.

So meta having this info and giving it out is not really surprising. What surprises me is they’re giving it out for free, but I guess not really because the user is paying to use their AI. 🤷

In a country where anybody has a weapon and where they always shot at the wrong people

Remember when every house had a big, thick book, provided for free by the phone company, with everyone's phone number and address in it? Different times.

[–] Zerush@lemmy.ml 5 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Yes different times, . Public in the Phone book, but as result sometimes only an flyer in your mail box and not of cause the phone book, but random. With phones tied to an cable, privacy issues are not a theme. If they don't know your name or your city, the phone book isn't usefull, less when there are several with the same name, Sara Connor.

IIRC you could also request to be de/unlisted if you really didn't want to appear there

Hopefully it tells those 3 million people not to breed.

I can almost put up with the incessant ads, or the plea for donations. But not both.

I can't stand Facebook even just existing. Burn it down

[–] blitzen@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Me neither. But I was talking about The Guardian. Click into this article and be prepared for an assault.

Firefox+uBlock Origin and see neither.

How does it even know their address? I'd be more concerned that my address is in their system first

The guy gave full access to the model, including managing selling his stuff on Facebook marketplace.

Accepted a low-ball offer plus told come here to pick up

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 4 points 4 days ago

Because the guy was a moron.

He input his address as the pickup location but said he never gave Muse permission to share it with potential buyers.

Of course an automated process will share the pickup location.

It's something you can put on Facebook for some reason, or maybe it got it from some event planned/scheduled on Facebook.

Someone else mentioned Facebook Marketplace, if you have the person come to you for the exchange.

I saw an Instagram reel in which a woman was explaining how Facebook's AI was giving people information on her children's age and names and where her family lived. Basically you could just ask the AI anything, and if that information was ever posted at any point in time, it'll retrieve it. Technically, all the info was public at one point, but it's still kinda crazy to think it's so easily accessible now by just asking Facebook's built in tool.

And here I was, considering trying to sell some shit on FB marketplace (because that's where the normie buyers are). Now I'm reconsidering. Does Meta know my home address? Probably, somehow. And now I know their Artificial Idiot will happily give my address to any rando who asks for it.

[–] athatet@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 days ago

*actual idiot

So, can I just message people who use this shit for nudes, and their agent will find and send them to me?
