I no longer care about Talarico ever since he came out as a transphobe
"This guy agrees with me on 1000 different issues and even agrees with me on the 1001st, but he slightly soft peddled it for political expediency so I don't care". We don't deserve democracy...
Sorry, transphobia is my line, he crossed it.
Is tiptoeing around an issue that could strip your power to protect trans people transphobic now? Its politics, we all know how he has already voted, but he has to get elected in dumfuckistan. I swear the left is more interested in moral purity than actually making peoples lives better.
even if true, by rejecting him you're tacitly supporting the alternative default. so which is worse, the openly corrupt transphobe, or the palpably honest 'transphobe'
While Queen has a point this kind of mindset is all too common on Lemmy. It would be great if Democrats were more principled about this and other topics, but they are missing the point that we can all live to fight another day if the dems win vs a republican that has a crusader zeal against more than just lgbt folks.
Too bad, so sad, next time try giving an option that doesn't hate transpeople
Just because he isn't commiting political suicide by making your cause, which affects less than 1% of the population, the PRIMARY issue in his campaign in TEXAS, doesn't mean he hates trans people. Everything else he supports is moral, it's safe to assume that his representation of trans people will be moral, too.
The First Rule of Politics is to Get Elected. He can't do that in Texas by making negligible issues his top priority. Once he's elected, he will be supporting trans issues, and if he doesn't, primary him in his reelection.
He already said he doesn't support trans people, that he wants to ban us from bathrooms and sports, andd that he wants us not to smoke any weed.
It's not that it isn't his main issue, it's that he immediately put us on the chopping block.
Sources? He’s been a legislator in Texas for eight years and his voting record is consistently pro-trans and pro-cannabis.
Every election cycle there are fresh waves around Lemmy (often from tankie servers) to discourage voting and do a "both sides" show.
They often have a point, but largely miss the forest for the trees.
i guess i missed his statement to the effect of hating or wishing to hurt or put 'on the chopping block' (whatever that is supposed to mean) trans people. if that's something he's said, i'd sure like you to do more than just assert it.
Why do you suppprt paxton more
If you dont help the challenger youre supporting the uncumbent. Your choice has an effect whether you participate or not. Your only optuons are to support the challenger or the incumbent. Ypuve said ypu dont suppprt the challenger there fore ylu support the incumbent. And yes, not voting is support for paxton
Not trying to defend Talarico, but what does one expect from a pastor?
