Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry of any kind will not be tolerated. This is an LGBTQ+-friendly community -- if that is a problem for you, you should leave.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • Don't come looking for advice, this is not the right community.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves / tolerates / hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
  • 5. 🇬🇧 Language/язык/Sprache
  • This is primarily an English-speaking community. 🇬🇧🇦🇺🇺🇸
  • Comments written in other languages are allowed.
  • The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
  • Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
  • 6. (NEW!) Regarding public figuresWe all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations.
  • Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
  • We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
  • Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed.
  •

Please report posts and comments that break these rules!

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.

Why was the penguin AI-ed in?

    [–] RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 121 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I feel like "This could have been a photoshop" is going to be the "this could have been a meeting" for AI.

Ignore the AI tools in photoshop, every photoshop version after CS6 isn't real.

you guys are using photoshop to make memes?

    SignatureLookOfGimpSuperiority.png

    or you know, 🇬🇧🇬🇧Kolour🇬🇧🇬🇧Paint

"This could have been a gimp" sends the wrong message to most people.

    [–] meat@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 1 month ago

Most of the people here would read it and not skip a beat.

    [–] nightwatch_admin@lemmy.world 26 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Photoshop is also a verb, has been for decades actually, meaning a use of photo editing software in general.

    [–] thebeardedpotato@lemmy.world 26 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Also saying you GIMPed something just doesn’t feel right

Oh God quickly disperse before gimp gang pulls up

    [–] bizarroland@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

Don't worry. Ask them to draw a circle so we can escape.

Because like so much of the IT field, most go for the easier thing to do and don't have or are losing the skills to do these things themselves. A good photoshop is a rarity now, and often will get called AI slop because of it being good, so they don't.

    [–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I always do this the shittiest way possible to show how low effort the shitpost is.

Usually that’s a screenshot of a meme generator (so it doesn’t include watermark) or some poorly pasted impact text added on my phone.

How do you know it was not AI-ed out of the original?

    [–] artifex@piefed.zip 6 points 1 month ago

This would have made the photoshoot even more interesting than it probably was.

Hilarious. So what porno was this taken from? Lmao

    [–] Staff@piefed.world 39 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (3 children)

Not a porno just a weird (great) photoshoot

    [–] BuckFutter@timeyak.com 20 points 1 month ago

Wild if true, it’s certainly a provocative photo! Especially for milk lovers :)

    [–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 10 points 1 month ago

Somebody should make a porno based on this. It could be a good porno.

    [–] neidu4@piefed.social 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Mostly correct. IIRC, it was from some influencers' photoshoot, and originally it doesn't look anywhere near as spicy as the memes may imply. Someone did some research a while back, and it's pretty tame.

Yes, which one so I can stay away from it and not watch it.

    [–] Zwiebel@feddit.org 31 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Know your meme says it was just an insta post

    [–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 15 points 1 month ago

Thank god, I really feared having to watch it several times in a row.

I want my girlfriend to look at me like that

    [–] BuckFutter@timeyak.com 11 points 1 month ago

There is some intensity going on in that gaze…wonder if she is a fan of copilot lol

I have to use Windows at work. It's genuinely horrifying.

Every time I open Word - and I mean EVERY. TIME. - I have to dismiss a box inviting me to ask Copilot to do my work for me.

I KNOW that I could bung Debian on that PC and wring SO MUCH MORE performance out of it, but noooooo, I've got to use SlopOS, because our IT guys don't know the first damn thing about Linux.

There is the old adage “Nobody got fired for going with Microsoft”, and it is real.

If you, as an IT guy recommend Linux, and some exec has a problem with his laptop (which they would have had no matter what OS is running on it) it WILL be your fault because you changed something.

    [–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 8 points 1 month ago

There is the old adage “Nobody got fired for going with Microsoft”, and it is real.

Unless you're in game development, or any other industry they invade lol.

Never go with Microsoft to a secondary location. Never get in Microsoft's car. Don't even talk to Microsoft.

    [–] Rivalarrival@lemmy.today 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

    WSL.

Leave Windows on it, but turn it into a de facto bootloader for a functional OS. IT gets to keep their bullshit jobs; you get to use a functional OS.

Unfortunate post underneath this one (as a KDE user):

    [–] luciferofastora@feddit.org 28 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (4 children)

Read the actual post. The stance is much the same as the kernel's: If your code is solid, it doesn't much matter how it came about.

The idea is that good code shouldn't be identifiable as LLM-generated. If it's within the general variance of human coding styles, abides by standards and the logic is sound and humanly understandable, it's practically impossible to prove that it's AI anyway.

If your code reeks of AI slop, it'll be rejected because nobody wants slop. You, not your tools, are responsible for the quality of your contribution.

That is very different from the "fuck quality, use LLM for the sake of using LLM" mentality Micro$lop are exhibiting.

    Yes, definitely.

In the original milk isn’t dripping off her chin and there’s more cleavage (though that’s cropping).

Also in the original the penguin is not recording, he’s standing with a coloured rock in his mouth.

    [–] carotte@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (3 children)

looking at recent kernel commits, that penguin is zoinked out on that milk too…

If anything Linux is also taking the bottle, it seems like: https://www.theregister.com/os-platforms/2026/08/10/linus-torvalds-says-ai-has-made-huge-linux-kernel-updates-the-new-normal/5285268 Completely self-inflicted, though, from what I can tell. Apparently they just enjoyed having a copyright time bomb as part of the code, or something - or I don't know why else they'd do it.

    [–] jjj@piefed.blahaj.zone 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (4 children)

“But it is what it is: the new normal with a lot of fixes, many of them due to review by various AI tools.”

AFAIK the "huge updates" are written by humans in response to LLM found bugs.
