Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry of any kind will not be tolerated. This is an LGBTQ+-friendly community -- if that is a problem for you, you should leave.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • Don't come looking for advice, this is not the right community.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves / tolerates / hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
  • 5. 🇬🇧 Language/язык/Sprache
  • This is primarily an English-speaking community. 🇬🇧🇦🇺🇺🇸
  • Comments written in other languages are allowed.
  • The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
  • Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
  • 6. (NEW!) Regarding public figuresWe all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations.
  • Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
  • We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
  • Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed.
  •

Please report posts and comments that break these rules!

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.

Why was the penguin AI-ed in?

    [–] RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 121 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I feel like "This could have been a photoshop" is going to be the "this could have been a meeting" for AI.

Ignore the AI tools in photoshop, every photoshop version after CS6 isn't real.

you guys are using photoshop to make memes?

    SignatureLookOfGimpSuperiority.png

    or you know, 🇬🇧🇬🇧Kolour🇬🇧🇬🇧Paint

    [–] RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 67 points 1 month ago (1 children)

"This could have been a gimp" sends the wrong message to most people.

    [–] meat@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 1 month ago

Most of the people here would read it and not skip a beat.

    [–] nightwatch_admin@lemmy.world 26 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Photoshop is also a verb, has been for decades actually, meaning a use of photo editing software in general.

    [–] thebeardedpotato@lemmy.world 26 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Also saying you GIMPed something just doesn’t feel right

You fuckin' with me, you fuckin′ with a G.I.M.P

    [–] germanatlas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yes and maybe we shouldn’t continue this verbal standardization of Adobe products. Make people realize there are valid alternatives so they stop giving this corporation a shitload of money

    [–] scutiger@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

It's also how genericization happens, which can nullify trademarks.

    [–] hoshikarakitaridia@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh God quickly disperse before gimp gang pulls up

    [–] bizarroland@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

Don't worry. Ask them to draw a circle so we can escape.

    [–] caseyweederman@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

(It says green pepper in angle brackets but some clients are trying to interpret that as markup tags)

    [–] hexagonwin@lemmy.today 3 points 1 month ago

lol, my frontend (mlmym) interprets it as an html tag and decides to show nothing (only <!-- raw HTML omitted -->)

    [–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)
    [–] caseyweederman@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 month ago

It's a built-in Gimp texture. It's like the monkey face in Blender. If you see the green pepper in an image, you know the image was made in the Gimp. It's like a cheeky signature/nod.

    [–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 27 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Because like so much of the IT field, most go for the easier thing to do and don't have or are losing the skills to do these things themselves. A good photoshop is a rarity now, and often will get called AI slop because of it being good, so they don't.

    [–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I always do this the shittiest way possible to show how low effort the shitpost is.

Usually that’s a screenshot of a meme generator (so it doesn’t include watermark) or some poorly pasted impact text added on my phone.

    [–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 2 points 1 month ago

a screenshot of a meme generator (so it doesn’t include watermark)

Why the fuck have I never thought of that?

    [–] SapphironZA@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

How do you know it was not AI-ed out of the original?

    [–] artifex@piefed.zip 6 points 1 month ago

This would have made the photoshoot even more interesting than it probably was.

    [–] illusionist@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 month ago
    [–] leadore@lemmy.world -5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

    The entire image is AI.

edit: Just look at it, it's obvious. Look at the bottom left corner, shirt merging into a bare leg

    [–] mirshafie@europe.pub 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Hey! They spent almost 30 minutes in Krita merging the shirt into the leg.

    [–] leadore@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Yeah I'm trying to figure out if the downvotes are because people don't believe it's an AI image. How is it not obvious. Compare it to the original meme to see all the differences.
