i would say programmers and engineers, if you asked people in the mid 2010s, everyone was all trying to get into it. its still reliable if you are heavy into AI maybe? almost every other stem job have very low prospects for the last decade+.
pharmacists used to be a decent job with security, but now its stagnant i heard for the most part(sitll have to pay a ton for grad school, although its easier to get into pharm school than a stem/research/non-MD health. grad program. CLS was pretty much a mainstay for cmb majors who are going into biotech, until competition became more and more over the years(basically you are competiing for a few schools in a state with thousands of others from out of state). job site/slop worsened all of this.
govt jobs before trump took over was a "dead end" but stable job with retirement benefits, but ever since its extremely volatile. same goes with stem research.
Nurses seems the reverse, it got better over time, as far as paywise goes and more mobility depending if you are doing travelling nurses. i think retail for the most part, people stay long term, because for many reasons thier other areas of employment isnt panning out.
Engineers are still needed, just not software engineers (help me)
Nursing is still feeling the effects of 50 years ago, when graduating they told you half wouldn't be able to be employed since the Market was oversaturated.
However the nursing shortages today are largely artificial or the result of doctors being unrelenting egotistical assholes. Travel nurses and labor pools where once the day of picking up shifts where needed. But now a ton of RNs will quit their employment at a hospital, then become a traveler, staffed at that same hospital for 3 months and make almost a year's wages, then move on to the next hospital. Rinse repeat
i dont think its the MDs fault but the hospital systems, and now PE and teledoc companies are snatching up those doctors.

Same thing for Facebook, they laid off a bunch of their workforce because of AI and quietly rehire them with less pay because fuck workers.

High tech job were in high demands and companies were happy to give everything the workers asked for … in the hope that they will not form an union.

I wanted a union because of the shit that happened in the marketing companies I worked at, but nobody else i worked with cared. They either went on to “better” tech jobs at the bigger companies, or dropped out and became farmers, printers or cooks. Or a few got lucky as stay at home moms or dads.
A shorter list would be what jobs are still a sure thing.
There is one job as old as the human race, and even though there are machines now, they will never be able to fully replace humans.
And what job is it?
The oldest profession. Sex work.

I've had a couple jobs at 2 very large pharma companies. Most of us are not actually working for said pharma companies, we're contracted labor, so even if we do a great job, they can just decide one day they want to go with someone else. Sometimes you'll get picked up by the next provider, sometimes not.
They just fired the heads of who I'm working for now and the company I was working for before this (doing literally the same job) because the pharma company was just "let's try something new" this month.
The previous site/different pharma I was at, we got replaced by a larger vendor and they said they already had people for my job, so I got the boot. I'm friends with the manager for that job outside of work and he says the new provider basically trashed everything and gave him a random asst. manager he can't get rid of who trashed all the relationships we built up.
Literally feels like I'm basically a Pokemon card they can swap in and out of the deck when they want. It's a different feeling from other jobs because pleasing my boss or end users isn't enough, because there's both people on site or around the world that can just get bored of the company I work for and just kick us out at will.

minimum wage jobs used to take anyone that applied and if you showed up ontime sober you generally got small raises over time. in most skilled fields short term contracts were very easy to get. Many would keep on renewing and that was a point of contention because like hey how about you hire full time with benefits.
A computer. Those are pretty much exclusively done by machines these days.
After the Butlerian Jihad, human computers will have their day again.

I think we upgraded from shovel to those truck vacuum things for sewers and septic tanks and whatnot.
