Taking a ride on the sui-slide would be the last thing on my bucket list

Every master piece has its cheap knock off

[–] NochMehrG@feddit.org 16 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

No, that’s the original!

[–] davidgro@lemmy.world 46 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

For those unaware.

"Some early riders came back with lacerations to their bodies, whose cause was later determined to be teeth that had been knocked out of riders' mouths and become lodged in the interior walls."

[–] mkwt@lemmy.world 18 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

A former Navy physician found that riders were experiencing as much as nine Gs of acceleration as they went through the loop.

v^2^ / r is a bitch.

Do you know which sponsor definitely won't kill you in their slides? Raytheon.

Capitalism in a nutshell.

You get to choose from one million different equally sucky options.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 11 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Couldn't really be higher on the list now could it?

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 weeks ago

Sure it could, you just wouldn’t be very likely to finish your list.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

This is such wonderful dry British humor.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Well if you want a low income option you could always just go to Action Park!

[–] Asafum@lemmy.world 42 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I too played rollercoaster tycoon where every coaster was a euthanasia coaster!

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 19 points 2 weeks ago

Oh my god. It was an instruction manual!

[–] Sv443@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 weeks ago

If it had anything less than 10.0 nausea rating it wasn't a real coaster

And surprisingly effective!

John Allen, who had been the president of the Philadelphia Toboggan Company, inspired Urbonas with his description of the "ultimate" roller coaster as one that "sends out 24 people and they all come back dead".[4]

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

I mean who better to employ to fashion a suicide rollercoaster than a man who has spent his life preventing rollercoaster casualties?

[–] TacoEvent@lemmy.zip 14 points 2 weeks ago (7 children)

book spoilers ishHow High We Go in the Dark by Sequoia Nagamatsu talks about this in one of the chapters. A disease is killing children so an amusement park was created for children to enjoy a roller coaster ride instead of dying in a hospital bed.

Highly inefficient killing machine. It's like they're trying to avoid killing its passengers but failing. This failed as an euthanasia machine at the planning stage.

It's just physics people.

Enough Gs and your brain and internal organs smush into mush, and I'm not talking Warren Gs.

[–] pageflight@piefed.social 7 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

The ride's seven inversions would inflict 10 g (g-force) on its passengers for 60 seconds, causing g-force related symptoms starting with greyout through tunnel vision to syncope, and eventually g-LOC (g-force induced loss of consciousness) and death.

But

According to the National Institutes of Health, the human brain can survive without oxygen for up to four or five minutes. During this time, the brain is not capable of functioning at anything near its normal capacity. Extensive and irreversible brain damage may occur through cell death if oxygen levels are not restored quickly enough after this period.

What am I missing?

[–] Doom@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

G-force taking the blood out of the brain.

If a person suddenly stops breathing there is still oxygen in their blood that their brain can utilize. However with strong g-forces the blood can be displaced out of the brain entirely. Think about where the feet will be on the coaster and where the blood would be pushed to.

[–] toddestan@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Presumably they would be clinically dead at the end of the ride, that is they would have stopped breathing and their heart would have stopped beating. It may still be possible to revive someone with prompt medical attention, but for the job to be finished all you'd have to do at that point is nothing.

Why would it not be easier to just seal off a room, and cycle the oxygen out until it's pure nitrogen gas. The people would pass out quickly, experience no real physical pain and just leave them in their for 30 minutes (well more than needed)

If there was an assisted suicide way to go, id basically just ask for the mask at the orthodontist then ease off into never worrying again.

[–] cattywampas@lemmy.world 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It would be easier, that's why no one has ever built this roller coaster.

It would, but that's not the point in the design.

This is a great idea, as long as everyone agrees to wearing really effective adult diapers. Otherwise it will be a water ride.
