Clearly, society as a whole have learned nothing from the crashes of the past caused by spectators. There was even another event with fatality earlier this year.

Can anyone answer…”Why did the Brit cross the road?”

[–] Towwebbed@lemmy.world 9 points 16 hours ago

To colonize the other side.

[–] ryannathans@aussie.zone 1 points 19 hours ago

To get to the other side

Sure let me take a 2 kilometre detour while trying to get groceries home because you blocked my way to watch people riding bikes.

Even still, could have used a little caution and speed, not risk people's lives. Fuck.

If crossing a indycar race is shameful why would this be considered any less shameful or less dangerous?

Hell, this was probably more dangerous because a cyclist flying off their bike would be more exposed to broken bones and death then a driver in a indycar.

The pedestrian could have seriously killed one or more cyclists if they crossed a few seconds late.

I mean they stopped the crossing because the riders were literally around the corner. She could have waited another 15 seconds and crossed then.

That was the main pack so maybe she was waiting from the lead pack(s) till that moment but she should have just waited. Every race I've been to the volunteers know they can only make people wait so long before someone like this comes along.

Yeah, it's not like she could have known about the closures months in advance, and just did it at a different time, or just waited until they'd all passed.

Not everyone cares about this sort of thing and maybe she forgot or couldn't go shopping because of something.

There are hundreds of things a city could do that she may not care about. There are signs, bollards, protective barriers, and notices. Then on top of that going to the store she probably had to cross it once and didn't stop to think about maybe she should just go tomorrow. This is on her.

If she can wait for a huge flock of car to pass the whole year she can wait for a whole pack of cyclist on a legally registered race to pass that's only on this road for a single day. That's a whole bunch of excuse for selfish reason.

No, she's just an impatient idiot putting people, and herself, in danger, and it's baffling that you're defending such behaviour. Look at the reaction of the official on the left. They were clearly in view when she decided to cross.

Yea fuck all the people who do care! This one lady was mildly inconvenienced!

[–] Seaguy05@lemmy.world 6 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

I dunno eternal, it really just looks like this person was really impatient. Gates weren't blocking the entire crosswalk, other people were waiting, personnel weren't on the road either (usually a sign of imminent arrival). I know videos show a preferred context but why not just listen to every other person there.

This is how people get seriously injured in bike races like this. I watched it again, she went between the motorcycles on the motorcade... Like come on.
