Warp 10 is the limit?
I can think of at least 5 numbers bigger than 10!
Kif, set engines to Warp 12.
10 is the limit for the "current" engines. There seems to be a weird scale, every generation, where it gets reset back to 1, but by a factor of the previous warp.
So, warp 5 in Enterprise is possibly Warp 1 in TOS.
I think Warp 1 always stays anchored to lightspeed, it's just that as engines improve each century, they rescale it. By the TNG era, they've clearly made it logarithmic (as opposed what was probably linear in ENT & TOS), with Warp 10 being infinite speed.
It makes sense, I'd imagine originally warp 5 would have been 5x light speed, then as things got faster 1 was the slowest warp we can go and 10 became the fastest theoretical with the current technology.

I think by Voyager, a limit does exist: 10.00. Tom & co. don't break that limit, they just reach it. Right?
The warp scale was redone between TOS and TNG(2200s and 2300s,respectively). Warp 10 is "infinite speed" essentially, and you would theoretically be occupying every point in the universe simultaneously.
There is no faster than warp 10 because of that. In the show, VOY was able to reach warp 9.975 quite easily, something that would only be attainable for the Enterprise D with great difficulty, lots of shaking, and only for a few minutes.
As you go faster, you use more energy, and therefore typical cruising speeds are between 5-7, with EntD typically going warp 6 most places.
By star trek Picard, they could make it to warp 9.99. Which despite being only 0.24 away from Voyager's speed, is MANY times faster. Its a scale that gets closer and closer to 10,but never reaches it.
