I have a tab group on my desktop with tools to maintain my Plex server. I think there are 4 tabs in it. That's collapsed, but there. Then I'll have the one tab I'm actually using, often a second tab on another monitor streaming music or video.

0 tabs on phone.

0 tabs on laptop.

Reading through these comments... There's a lot of psychos in here. Some of y'all have hundreds of tabs open. Why?

[–] syaochan@feddit.it 1 points 1 hour ago

Some of y’all have hundreds of tabs open. Why?

Might need them later

[–] bobbyfiend@retrolemmy.com 11 points 16 hours ago

Look. I don't come here to be verbally abused.

[–] B0rax@feddit.org 7 points 15 hours ago

I have just tidied up a bit… my phone was on ~470ish tabs. (Btw, did you know that the limit in safari on iOS is 500 tabs?)

Now my phone has 50.

[–] helix@feddit.org 5 points 16 hours ago

Same, that's why I open more than 100 on my phone so the number disappears 😬

[–] tyler@programming.dev 2 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

Phone: 169 in Safari, inf in Firefox Computers: uhhhhhhh probably several thousand? It would take quite a while to get a number.

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 10 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I don't know. Firefox displays an infinity symbol after 99.

[–] Admetus@sopuli.xyz 2 points 8 hours ago

And I may have god knows how many inactive tabs. Ha!

My phone tells me I have ∞ open.

I'm not sure how to easily count on my computer (firefox), I have vertical tabs on, I have to scroll, and many of the tabs are in collapsed groups...

And before you ask, yes all the tabs are important and necessary.

[–] braindamagebuddy@lemmy.world 6 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

Hate to say it but I have probably 500 tabs opened combined

[–] fubarx@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago

On laptop, go until browser crashes in a loop.

One time, had to reboot three times so I could close some of the windows before they locked up.

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 19 hours ago

1 tab on my phone

18 tabs on my laptop across 4 virtual desktops

PC = 1 Mobile phone = yes

[–] TootSweet@lemmy.world 5 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago) (2 children)

Only 29.

Well, 30 now that I opened this thread in a new tab.

But yeah. That's on the low side compared to usual for me.

(Firefox on a Raspberry Pi 4.)

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 4 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

how does it do with videos using your browser?

[–] TootSweet@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

My experience is that the performance of videos depends a lot on how much of the screen the video takes up. More so than on the quality setting (480p, 720p, 1080p). Usually when I want to watch a video, I limit it to about 1/4 of the area of my 1920x1080 screen. But YouTube is pretty watchable. I don't think even when you select something like 720p@60fps or whatever that it ever actually gets up to 60fps, and sometimes the parts that don't compress as well drop a few frames (strobing in particular does that), but it's really not bad if you're ok with not doing full-screen.

Also, it depends where the video is hosted. If the JS is really light on the page, it's way more performant. If the JS is really heavy, I sometimes have to wait tens of seconds for it to render the first frame.

But also, this Raspberry Pi is mostly my Lemmy box. Not my main box.

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Damn, I'm impressed that your rpi can handle that many tabs. Mine can only handle a few loaded pages at a time

[–] TootSweet@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

My experience is that it has more to do with what's loaded in the tab than how many tabs are open. One tab can cause everything to run at like 1fps if it's bloated. ("Graphic design is my passion" kind of pages with tons of animations, usually.) But 100 Lemmy-UI tabs is no problem at all.

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 4 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I have a bookmark folder called Zombie Tabs that I periodically tidy the zombie tabs into

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 4 points 18 hours ago

Also there's a FF extension called Tab Session Manager that removes the problem of keeping hold of tabs entirely

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 2 points 17 hours ago

My phone just shows the infinity symbol for tab count. Probably like a hundred on my desktop

[–] Valarie@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 15 hours ago

Phone: the number says 64, but only 25 "active". I should probably prune.

1 on pc 1 on phone 95% of time. 4 or 5 when buying things and can be 8-9 when searching software related answers.

[–] RisingSwell@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 17 hours ago

Laptop 1 (yt subscription page, which is my homepage) and phone 0.

Loading a page means the other pages have issues if they are also trying to load and my internet can't really do 2 things at once.

[–] ada@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 18 hours ago

I set them to close automatically after 24 hours, because I have having more tabs open than I can track. I explicitly don't use them as "read later" bookmarks.
