Mildly Infuriating

Ah, I see you've encountered one of the ancient monoliths. Once a yellow pillar of the community, these behemoths delighted neighborhood children who would spend hours playing with them. Many skateboards and scooters were propelled upwards by these olden obstacles, but bicycles were the most well-regarded. And these highlighter highlights could make any child on a bicycle feel like a king. Those who could wheelie achieved jumps, those who could balance achieved wheelies, and those who could do neither taught everyone the importance of a helmet. "But I can't do it!" the smaller ones would yell, and others would shout, "faster! You gotta go FASTER!" Some would become airborne, but all would finish laying down, usually having shared considerable patches of skin with the pavement.

Yes, once a mighty watering hole for the daring, this archaic entertainment has laid down and breathed its last. Its once bright yellow skin has fallen off over the years, revealing a rotting blemish on the road. Where there was once cheers and laughter surrounding this proud protrusion, now lies a pile of bones and the modern chants of "god damnit! Where did that come from?!"

Time to do some civic vigilantism it looks. Buy a reflective yellow spraypaint and give that speedbump its caution lines back.

In the book and movie The grapes of wrath the watchman at the camp entrance says of the speed bump: it protects the kids playing in the camp because asking drivers to slow down doesn't work, but after speeding over the bump they never forget.

Seeing all the comments defending the bump is wild. He's coming up to a clear turn, 1. 2, what if someone is driving on that road for the first time? Do they deserve damage to their car for going the fucking speed limit‽

Seriously, all speed bumps need to be visibly painted.

Speed bumps where I'm from are usually wider and clearly marked, similar to this picture I found online:

Google Maps street view shows it painted yellow in 2023. The town needs to get busy and repaint it.

Did you stop in the middle of the road to take the picture? At least it achieved its purpose of slowing you down.
