Nitter is open source and there are many instances. Good luck, Elon.
Decline into censorship
I hate the fact that Elon musk took what was a quick easy way for people to get messages out quickly to the public, and then put it behind a login wall to force people to make an account on his site just to get information from organisations. The first thing the site does is serve you far right propaganda when you log in.
And then he saw people creating a way around that and shut that down.
Fuck Elon Musk.
Everyone seems to be doing this now, too. Needing accounts to access services isn't new, but since apps came along, everyone seems to suddenly need your birth certificate and your home address align with the schedule of your bowel movements.
╮(︶▽︶)╭
people still on twitter are the problem.
Corporations can 🖕themselves.
Parasocialists will still reverie.
Smugly smirking at the firing line as I'm marched to my execution.
"Guess Elon Musk doesn't really give a shit about free spe-" BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG
Can't wait for nitter.ru and xcancel.ru. Seriously, the code is open-source, someone should spin up an instance outside the epstein jurisdiction.
Imagine if they do a nitter.ua I bet Starlink would get disabled the next day
nitter is outside 14eyes jurisdiction. Github aint. Thus C&D on the FashHub.
That doesn't make sense, the GitHub repo is still up (in fact that's exactly what you're linking to). A DMCA/C&D targeted at github would have the repo disappear immediately until MS lawyers figure it out -- see the youtube-dl situation. Judging from this issue comment C&D was targeted at nitter's author and nitter.net operator, zedeus. The reason he shut down the instance immediately is because the Netherlands, where it is hosted and presumably where he lives, is very much part of the US (and thus epstein class's) sphere of influence. So are all the other countries where third-party instances were hosted, so it's understandable that their hosters are also afraid of C&D's and shut down their instances (e.g. https://nitter.catsarch.com/).
I'm talking about spinning up instances outside that sphere of influence. A person living in Russia won't give a fuck about any letters from Musk so they can host an instance with no fear (at least in that regard). Russia, despite its crackdowns on internet privacy and freedom of speech in many ways, has been a haven for all sorts of cool piracy-adjacent stuff, so this seems quite fitting.
Waiting on broadband connection this year , if I get it I will set up a server behind a VPN and host as much as I can , wonder what the minimum costs would be to run nitter

Eat shit elon
I’m starting to think the nazi pedo site is really a bad thing.

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question but it felt relevant. When dealing with X what is the better strategy, trying to circumvent the BS with tools like nitter or abandoning the platform all together?
I know there is still a critical mass of users, including a lot of institutional accounts, there and stories often break on the platform so anyone migrating to Bluesky or Mastodon would lose access to that, but are there other practical benefits to continued use of X?
Nitter and Xcancel are handy if you already know what you’re looking for but they’re pretty janky and slow. Or broken. Not very good for browsing. I deleted my main after he bought it. And I don’t miss it. Most accounts of any substance either moved to Bluesky or cross post anyway.
abandoning the platform all together. I haven't touched it in nearly a decade and nothing of value is lost.
Some of my states gov agencies / electric company only use twitter unfortunately
practical benefits
There’s only one: aggregation. Nazi Aggregation.
Decentralized aggression is an unsolved problem.
So the yard sold network effect themselves to centralized means of aggregation.
Otherwise decentralized networks would have taken off, if we couldn't sillytalk to politicians & capitalists. Politicians made twitter infamous, not Noah Glass.
Sever.
