Cease and desist
On 24 August 2026 cease and desist letters have been sent by X Corp. demanding a permanent takedown of Nitter instances and the project's repository.
nitter.net is offline and development has stopped for the time being. I'm seeking legal advice and won't be commenting further on the specifics for now.
Thank you to everyone who used, hosted, packaged, donated and contributed to Nitter over the past seven years.

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question but it felt relevant. When dealing with X what is the better strategy, trying to circumvent the BS with tools like nitter or abandoning the platform all together?
I know there is still a critical mass of users, including a lot of institutional accounts, there and stories often break on the platform so anyone migrating to Bluesky or Mastodon would lose access to that, but are there other practical benefits to continued use of X?

There’s only one: aggregation. Nazi Aggregation.
Decentralized aggression is an unsolved problem. So the yard sold network effect themselves to centralized means of aggregation.
Otherwise decentralized networks would have taken off, if we couldn't sillytalk to politicians & capitalists. Politicians made twitter infamous, not Noah Glass.
Nitter and Xcancel are handy if you already know what you’re looking for but they’re pretty janky and slow. Or broken. Not very good for browsing. I deleted my main after he bought it. And I don’t miss it. Most accounts of any substance either moved to Bluesky or cross post anyway.
Some of my states gov agencies / electric company only use twitter unfortunately
