Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

This is really obvious satire, and I'm concerned almost everyone isn't realizing this

[–] antonim@lemmy.world 5 points 11 hours ago

Tbh it does slightly surprise me, because I got the pic from Nyazsche's bluesky, whose type of humour is very 196-coded

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 5 points 14 hours ago

Yeah everyone knows nobody knew who Trump was in the 90s

[–] 2hundredpancakes@lemmy.blahaj.zone 21 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

It never stops amazing me how the people that put punisher stickers on everything are the exact same people the punisher would hate

[–] psilotop@lemmy.world 11 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

This hurts me so deeply. I absolutely love the character. He had some really fun cameos during the Civil War Arc when it was published in the 2000s. Now I feel ashamed to show any outward interest in him. I bought a Punisher t-shirt maybe 25 years ago because I thought it looked cool. Whomp ☹️, now it's a rag.

My ex metamour has a punisher tattoo and didn't realize it didn't signal him being a nerd. Great guy, just one you really couldn't properly judge by his appearance

[–] psilotop@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago

cant find anything to support your fascist position? just lie! no one can disprove a lie on the internet.

[–] drolex@sopuli.xyz 64 points 1 day ago

Oh my God, Obama has erased the pre-1999 Trump-loving Spongebob episodes!

[–] froufox@lemmy.blahaj.zone 42 points 1 day ago

that's obvious satire

[–] join@lemmy.ml 31 points 1 day ago (1 children)

In 99 he came out and now he is LGBT. It says so in the meme.

[–] ToastedRavioli@midwest.social 20 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Considering sea sponges are simultaneously asexual and hermaphroditic Im not sure how spongebob could ever have been cishet in the conventional sense

Nature is woke, that's why conservatives are doing everything they can to destroy the planet

It's from the misinformation and rage-bait network, that makes it immune to facts.

Just ask the sacked Facebook independent fact-checking department.

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 3 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I read it as a joke, as satire. But didn't know if it was true or not because of all the stupid shit our leaders say nowadays.

[–] pulsewidth@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

Nah its 100% serious if its been posted to a community named 'Epic Red-Pilled Memes'.

These are people that don't understand irony.

[–] N0tTr0xy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 18 hours ago

Missed opportunity for 1996

[–] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 18 points 22 hours ago

I count myself lucky that I don't know whether this is another impression of Musk or something else

[–] 2hundredpancakes@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

It's a Musk impression. Your luck is all mine now. Sorry

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 5 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

Unfortunately you are now cursed <3

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 3 points 16 hours ago

Shit maybe he could take my luck too.

How could Biden do this to me???

[–] webp@mander.xyz 7 points 22 hours ago
[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Does it have to be parody? I hardly think anyone could conclude that without checking given Musk's social media habits and nazi shit.

It's a clown world, if anything the post is to cogent to be legit not the other way around.

[–] charokol@lemmy.zip 4 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Do you think that speech bubble is really Elon Musk saying “concerning“?

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 2 points 14 hours ago
