Genuinely a nation of toddlers...
I hate tomatoes but the idea of a slice of ketchup also sounds disgusting
I remember as a toddler adults pulling a "you like ketchup, so why dont you like tomatoes?" On kids who didnt like tomatoes. Like.. okay, drink some vinegar then, throw some sodium bicarbonate on your pasta.
Sugar. You like it because it's loaded with sugar. I don't like tomatoes, fine with ketchup and salsa. But not pico, because the tomatoes in pico are still too tomato.
Cooked tomatoes taste distinctively different from raw ones. Ketchup, salsa and pasta sauce all have different degrees of cookedness.
Ive always liked tomatoes, im speaking for the other, more frail children
Same. I can't do raw fresh tomatoes but I am fine with salsa,, marinara, etc.
I used to hate tomatoes
Then I learned that they could be good with a little salt and pepper
Now i've made panzanella salad and it's like, where have you been all my life?
my theory is that kids that dont like veggies is because their parents didnt season their vegetables.
Very much the case in my house. The only "salad" that was eaten in my home growing up was this unholy mix of sliced raw onion, cubed tomatoes, SO MUCH WHITE VINEGAR and some salt. I wouldn't go near it.
Turns out I like salads when they have a bit of oil or dressing or other things.
That or they just boil them
The idea that putting anything on a vegetable or cooking it in a fashion that changes its appearance somehow robs the food of its healthy qualities has done irreparable harm to healthy eating habits
I recently made this discovery myself. Turns out, if you add flavor to them, they're not bad.
Also, heirloom tomatoes have a wonderful flavor!
I've always been okay on tomatoes. Found out I fucking love a tomato if it's a good tomato. Home garden is best but it is one of the veggies that is worth paying for the better version. A lot of stuff it doesnt make a difference if you get the expensive organic version, onions is onions for example. Tomatoes are a strong exception. Low quality tomatoes are for salsa and lesser sandwiches. Good tomatoes are for eating raw and really good sandwiches where you buy nice bread
Yep
A nice tomato sandwich on a hot day is :chefs-kiss:
Blast a bit of flaky salt, some herbs de province and white pepper on a fine heirloom tomato. Or throw that fucker on an everything bagel with either just some garlic oil or vegan cream cheese and fresh greens....madone
Caprese salad (if you aren't vegan)
There was a brief period in my youth where my mother would just buy a shitload of cherry tomatoes. No idea why. School lunch? Yeah there's a bunch of cherry tomatoes. Feeling peckish? Cherry tomatoes. Breakfast? For some reason, cherry tomatoes.
Lasted 2 months then she never bought them again.
The person in the photos is an Israeli woman named Tohar Ben Shitrit. She has a channel on instagram, tiktok, and youtube. She has tons of videos showcasing fake foods.
Some comments in this thread ask why someone would have a slice of ketchup rather than a slice of cheese. Cheeseburgers are not kosher because Torah says "do not cook a kid in its mother's milk", which is interpreted as "do not combine meat and cheese".
The fake product seems like some kind of Israeli joke, like a play on "slice of cheese".
I went to look to see if this is a product designed for disabled people but as far as I can tell, this is fake. There is a company that sells dried slices of various sauces, called slice o' sauce, if that is your jazz. It does not look like it's made for the disabled, so there really is no point to its existence.
There must already be a squeeze machine for those who can't. Like a dull set of scissors thing. Cause I could see that being a pain. I've always worked kitchens and had noticed really early on that it's basically impossible to do with just about any disability. Which is gatekeeping an industry of brutal work for next to no pay, but at the same time that makes it an entire industry that will not hire based on physical disabilities, and in addition made me really aware of how fucking hard cooking would be for anyone with limited use of just about any body part, even at home. Also I found out how much some of these gadgets that are made originally for people with disabilities can really reduce the physical strain of doing an industrial amount of something. The slap chop is a secret godsend for professional kitchens that I have gotten to introduce. It's cheaper and more precise and easier to clean than a food processor and while less precise, its less strenuous than a knife. So if you wanna dice a fuckload of onions for a mornay sauce as an example, you can cut that time in half with a slap chop. I wish they made bigger ones so I could fit a fuckload of veg in their. For easy rough chopping and dining where presentation wont matter, it is great! Fantastic product that should be in every restaurant

that looks like something the protagonist comes across in a Cronenberg movie to foreshadow how everybody gets absorbed into the big oozing flesh mass later on but it's ok because everybody's happy as part of the big oozing flesh mass
everyone is 12
But what if I, an alleged tomato disliker, dislike if for them taste and not because it comes in sauce form? What then? Must I just take the rational position of not eating tomatoes like some sort of freak or find a yet more baffling way to somehow consume something I don't like?
who the fuck buys that smh

Raw tomatoes have a bad texture
:(
Lightly cooked tomato slices are good though

I don't have a back yard and you can pry my lawn chair from my cold dead asscheeks.
this is obviously fake
I live in a country with frozen oreo pizzas and mustardayonnaise so my ability to detect normal human food is a little warped ok
I fell for it, because it sur as shit looks like a real products americans would consume.
This almost makes sense as space food like something you would eat in zero G in a tortilla
Actually, I wonder if throwing a slice of it into my 番茄炒鸡蛋 would improve it. It should contain some form of thickener, which means I won't have to make a corn-starch slurry, and the taste shouldn't really be too intrusive in a egg and tomato stir fry.
