As one of the people moderating that comm, it was weird. I had a phase (like 10 years ago) where I was a full-on Swiftie with a stan twitter account and during that time I met the swiftie who later went viral on twitter for going to prison after she refused to join the IDF. I talked about that on here and then there was another user who brought up the idea of starting the taylorswift comm. From the way they pitched it it was semi-ironic I suppose, they wanted to turn Taylor Swift into a leftist icon and it was supposed to be a sort of ragebait, though I'm not sure who exactly was supposed to be baited by it. That's where the taylor-commie emote came from. Comms need two moderators to be started and I agreed to be the other one since I was the resident Taylor Swift expert. The bit got old pretty quickly. The user who originally pitched the comm left the site shortly after the comm was founded so that didn't help. At the time I still had generally positive opinions about Taylor Swift but that has soured quite a bit since then.

To be perfectly honest, I think both the other user and me saw it as an opportunity to talk about a special interest of ours, one that would usually find very little resonance on hexbear, with the plausible deniability of "haha we're just being ironic though look it's Taylor as a communist". In hindsight it's kinda embarrassing that it existed but oh well. I still have the little moderator emblem on my hexbear UI so it was all worth it.

The other user left? That sucks. I remember them as being decent people and good poster.

[–] UmbraVivi@hexbear.net 2 points 17 hours ago

Well they didn't formally leave or anything they just stopped posting. Their last post was over 3 years ago.

Did nobody in this thread bother to actually check out the tswift comm before speculating?

third-top-post

It was always ironic.

You can see how much this site genuinely and unironically loved taysway by all the posts of her music on the music comm:

This historical evidence would be lost if it weren't for the collective memory of months-old accounts made by people banned during some struggle session.

Five posts over a range of six years. Damning evidence of hexbear harboring cishet white girls.

Wait until you find my secret Hamilton club

[–] Piltdowntown@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I think even just joking about that should be enough to get sent to the gulag

[–] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 18 points 1 day ago

You can't do anything to me, all the mods are part of the secret Hamilton club. In fact, they're the only members. I invented the club purely to contain them alone.

Daydreaming about the time I told my dad I didn't care for Hamilton and he goes "because it's not left enough? brow "

And I go "yeah pretty much"

I thought this was one of those, “this is a stereotypically feminine-coded thing so we’re gonna triple down on pushing back against anyone who doesn’t like it” things. Like the pumpkin spice latte discourse.

[–] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 4 points 18 hours ago

I forgot the pumpkin spice latte thread.

we're smarter than this.

We had an anti-union comm. No, we're not.

lmao one of many instances that makes me want to know what kind of dirt Melina had on the mods that they got that level of tolerance and accommodation

[–] GayTuckerCarlson@hexbear.net 6 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

Melina stalks the mind of hexbears like Death Eaters stalk harry potter

[–] kristina@hexbear.net 7 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

it was a joke to ragebait. it also led to some very funny SEO where you could search taylor swift communist and hexbear showed up on google for it

[–] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago (3 children)

comm request c/kpop, and k/cpop to balance it out

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The c in k/cpop stands for corn brandon

[–] Piltdowntown@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago

Only if Kpop was a honeypot where everyone who posted on it was immediately banned. Cpop can stay but you're on thin fucking ice.

[–] tithonis@hexbear.net 5 points 23 hours ago

K-pop? Like the Pochonbo Electronic Ensemble?

[–] Athena5898@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Taylor Swift outbreak is/was everywhere and the anti viral messures were not taken seriously so eventually every just kind of gave up and learned to live with it.

[–] duderium@hexbear.net 7 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

She’s basically the covid of music.

[–] Wisp@hexbear.net 2 points 16 hours ago

Well that was an awful read

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Presumably someone asked for it, and 50%+ of the purpose of Hexbear is to post about personal interests. Some people are interested in pop music, the poor souls.

I listened to the newest Taylor Swift album and I swear it sounds like it was generated by Suno

Irony and ragebaiting and perhaps unironic enjoyment of walmart background music

[–] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 19 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The t swift comm was not started ironically. I was there I remember taylor-commie
