The security model for bank branches is to keep limited funds available, and to let robbers get away with what little cash is in a branch. Insurance will cover their losses.
They have very high-def cameras with the latest identity-capability features.
Banks do have a shit ton of cameras. Mostly pointed at the employees, because that's where the highest risk is. But everywhere else, too.
For banks that have guards, they want to be as obvious as possible to act as a deterrent. Better to prevent a robbery than to investigate one after the fact.
I won't speak about banks, but many (most?) security guards at businesses aren't even armed. They are there as a deterrent, but also to witness and document. They are also (usually mildly) trained to defuse a violent situation and get any robbers out the door without bloodshed.
The thing is that bank don't store much cash anymore.
If you want cash and or item with a good resell value with low security, go for cigarette store, or a 24/7 "conveinience store", the kind of place where people pay in cash, which don't have complex security protocol and often only one worker.
And before I get charged for pushing for crime don't forget you'll most likely get caught and that in many legal system armed robbery is severely punished. Better being a far-right politician like Lepen, so you can steal 4 millions Euro and get an ankle monitor and the right to run for election.
If you live in a legal state, you might want to rob a cannabis dispensary. They carry a lot of cash because it's hard for them to access financial services until the SAFE act passes. If you are a conservative politician, it's even better for you because then you can claim that the devil's lettuce is associated with violent crime! It's a win-win.
As far as getting caught goes, in a lot of those mom & pop, single employee stores the "complex security protocol" is a .45 under the counter...

As someone who has played a lot of Payday: who do you think is the first person to be 'handled'? You don't make a scene unless it's unavoidable, and you don't get into unavoidable situations until you've taken control of the security room.
Yeah yeah, you can do it without firing a shot, but it's always easier for the cams to be offline. Work smarter, not harder.

Honestly, proper bank robberies are pretty rare. They're seen has high risk targets. And in the modern age, most branches do not carry much cash, anyway.
So in short, paying a guy to sit there costs them way more than they stand to lose via robberies.
Because once that guard sees a robbery is happening, all they're going to do is call the police anyway. Why pay a person to sit there all day long when the teller will trigger the alarm just as fast, if not faster?
They already have a guard. Why not move them into a secure room?
To do what?
A non-visible guard isn't a deterrent.
And they already have the cameras recording to NVRs 24/7 in a remote location.
How many bank robberies are there every year? How much money do they get away with on average? How many of the robbers got away because the silent alarm was not triggered?
In 2024 there were 1300 bank robberies in the US.
And how much of the money that is stolen does a bank absorb as losses on its balance sheet?
