Nah, Miata is an infinitely more fun, interesting, and memorable name, because it's actually a name and not some boring-old code of numbers and letters. Fun fact: Miata means "Reward" in Old High German!

Jalopnik

But I don’t fit inside a Miata

[–] just2look@lemmy.zip 18 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Sounds like you need lubrication

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It’s not lubrication. My head sticks out of the top.

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago

Better view, just wear a helmet

[–] Pavidus@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

There's several ways to make this happen, you just have to want it bad enough. I know that's definitely not a viable solution for everyone. I'm well over 6 foot and I can sit comfortably in mine without touching the roof or being above the roll bar.

Also, older is easier. The newer they get, the less space they have. I couldn't even begin to fit in a new one until the seat rails were replaced with aftermarket.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah, aftermarket seats and maybe even pedals would fix it. But I’m already dumping money into a project car and my wife won’t let me park something on the front lawn.

[–] Pavidus@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I feel that in my soul.

My dad used to own a Miata, he was unable to get on and out of it with the top up. I loved borrowing it when I would visit because I'm a foot shorter than him and never had any problems with it. There's some perks to being short.

A samurai is also fun topless. (Jimny for those outside the US)

[–] cannedtuna@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I thought they were called Jimmy’s inside the US?

[–] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Nope, theyre Suzuki Samurais here. They stopped importing them around 1995.

[–] Addv4@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Funny enough, we do have old Jimmy's, but they were from GMC (just rebadged Chevy blazers). Probably why Suzuki couldn't use the name in the states.

[–] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I see the issue!

The GMC Jimmy was a rebadged Chevy Blazer, a sport utility vehicle.

The Suzuki Jimny is a tiny little SUV that is used for embarassing overconfident Wrangler owners.

The Jimmy we had in the US, made by GMC. The Jimny, note the spelling, was made by Suzuki amd sold overseas.

[–] Addv4@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh no, I'm aware (and really want a Suzuki jimny here, much better than a jeep in a similar form factor as you noted), but Jimmy and Jimny sound so similar that I would just cause confusion between the two brands, which is why I figured that would be why they didn't use the name.

[–] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Oh that's probably the real reason.

[–] cannedtuna@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That would explain my confusion

[–] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The Jimmy is the GMC vehicle in the US. The Jimny, spelled J I M N Y, was the suzuki I was talking about. Its an easy mistake to make, or at least its an easy mistake I have made before. 😂
