Update

Dev is also upset at people who did not like their previous post and continues to insult everyone on the fediverse who does not a reddit like experience to attract investors (ie what the dev calls normies). As well as being completely unapologetic while also still attacking trans friendly instances by calling them a box of matches.

You all have made it quite clear that you don’t want an explanation, or even a mea culpla, or to even try to understand the very real problem I’m trying to address for people who want a nicer place in the thrediverse.

You just want a punching bag.

Maybe when the DM harassment and death threats stop and someone wants to come in with a specific good faith question instead of a shotgun to my face, we’ll talk. Until then, fuck off.

Warmest regards,

Pat

But here’s an explainer for the communities:

I’ve already addressed users and such in the previous post, but I will cover communities here.

In short, think of those communities as a box of matches. In the right hands they’re perfectly safe and useful.

In the hands of a petulant child or batshit crazy adult, they’re dangerous and highly flammable.

Given that the average level of maturity of the loudest people here falls somewhere between “petulant child” and “batshit crazy adult”, giving them a box of matches is a very. bad. idea.

Some of those communities are also completely unmoderated.

Lemmitor amateur fed breaks record for longest run on sentence

[–] ReverendIrreverence@lemmy.ml 4 points 8 hours ago

not that would read it anyway but...why the fuck no TL;DR?

[–] hamid@crazypeople.online 14 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

When I ran vegan theory club instance I said something he didn't like and he want ballistic on me calling me out for being anti-American and "extremist" while the country he lives in was preparing to bomb the country where I'm from. He then went on to the fediseer and censured my instance because if he doesn't like something it is a problem. This is an actual problem with the fediverse, the "call outs" and harassment communities that pick out people for wrong think.

[–] Class_of_1917@hexbear.net 5 points 6 hours ago

"Extremism" only means to oppose the status quo.

These people are actual extremists for liberalism. Any violence they employ is fine because it preserves the status quo, thus fighting the "extremism" of people suggesting that violence with a much smaller scope and scale should be employed to overthrow their hegemony.

Like tankie, the use of the word "extremism" only exists to slander those who dare oppose the status quo in any meaningful way.

Tldr? I'm too old

edit: asked a chinese llm to summarize this in one sentence from a communist perspective

TL;DR: An individual platform owner exercises bourgeois censorship by unilaterally deciding what speech is acceptable while claiming to protect "normies," revealing how digital feudalism allows private owners to control discourse in the name of community safety.

There are two types of people into open source, broadly. Aaron Swartz, & guys into server equipment for the same reason they like guns

[–] kristina@hexbear.net 14 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (2 children)

xi jinping recently had a speech on the importance of open source tech, does he count as an aaron swartz or does aaron swartz count as a xi jinping xibe-check

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 10 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Xi likes open source for the same reason he likes guns. Because they both help him continue the worker led revolution uplifting the entirety of China

[–] splendidsadiks@hexbear.net 11 points 12 hours ago

Extremely compelling

[–] splendidsadiks@hexbear.net 9 points 12 hours ago

New type that's actually good & will be the main one. Everyone in africa will be xi jinping in 2100

To be blunt: Tesseract is designed to attract and retain normies. The Fediverse is stuck in a bit of a chicken and egg situation right now. It needs new people, but anyone in their right mind isn’t going to want to stick around because the loudest bunch here are just so off-putting to normal, well-adjusted people. I’ve attempted to resolve this catch-22 situation and am trying, perhaps hamfistedly, to save the Fediverse from itself.

I gotta ask who these mysterious level headed normies who'd be driven away by the fediverse community are given some of the things that list blocks. Like, for example one of the blocked communities is called "Wholesome Yuri". Who's being scared away by lesbians? and why would they be a better, less toxic community than the fediverse's existing one?

[–] Grapho@lemmy.ml 4 points 7 hours ago

Only the normalest most well adjusted people publish several essay length crashouts justifying massive user level blocklists because they might be secretly Russian

[–] Pandantic@midwest.social 11 points 10 hours ago

I subscribe to wholesome Yuri and the worst you see on there is anime girls kissing. I'm sure a guy like that can find a reason to consider blahaj "extremist" or "tolerating extremism", but blocking wholesome Yuri is clear lgbtq+ bias.

[–] BeanisBrain@hexbear.net 11 points 16 hours ago

For twelve years, you have been asking: Who is John Galt? This is John Galt speaking. I am the man who loves his life. I am the man who does not sacrifice his love or his values. I am the man who has deprived you of victims and thus has destroyed your world, and if you wish to know why you are perishing-you who dread knowledge-I am the man who will now

[–] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 23 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Tesseract is an experience more than a client

I'm not reading the rest of that.

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 19 points 18 hours ago

The Tesseract experience is just reddit, except he's the basement dwelling power tripping mod and not the current basement dwelling power tripping mod. That'll show those communists.

[–] into_highest_invite@lemmygrad.ml 14 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

There’s no evil agenda.

Simply put, I’m choosing to not render content from certain sources

why can liberals never admit they have opinions? like if i made software that made everything i didn't like invisible i would at least have the self-confidence to say that's what i was doing. like you're writing a 3302-word (at time of writing) essay to say you're censoring politics you don't like. why wouldn't you just say, "i'm censoring the kind of politics i don't like"? is it so hard to just say "i don't like xyz so i'm censoring it on this software that i develop and if you don't like it, you can use a different software"? that's something i could at least understand. what i can't respect is wasting everyone's time making them discover this shit and then wasting their time again with this bullshit three thousand three hundred and two word essay.

I also could have encrypted it,

lol not if you want it to run on other people's websites

edit: lol dubvee is gone

  1. Advocacy of, incitement of, or ANY calls to violence.

This only ever applies to leftists or people in the global south. Argue in favor of invading Iran? Support Israel? Support banning abortion? Want to make homelessness a crime? These are all totally neutral opinions that totally don't involve the use of violence.

Say "It's really funny Charlie Kirk got clipped after he stated a few gun deaths (resulting from rightwing terrorists shooting up an elementary school) each year is the price of freedom" and it's "OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE THE HEXBEANIS ADVOCATES VIOLENCE!!!!!"

  1. Racism, Xenophobia, Transphobia, Homophobia, Bigotry, et al

Fucking coward lmaoooo

Foxes and wolves...it's always foxes and wolves.
