They seem to do more damage to themselves when falling over than actually inflicting anything on their opponent…

[–] TheRealKuni@piefed.social 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That’s true of a few BattleBots contenders.

[–] the_xboxkiller@lemmy.zip 49 points 1 month ago

The acronym immediately made me think of this.

[–] ToiletFlushShowerScream@piefed.world 46 points 1 month ago (4 children)

I can picture these wearing cop uniforms, running you down at night for jaywalking ,and believe it may be one of our possible futures.

[–] CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world 21 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I’m pretty sure the odds of this are 100%. Except it’ll be military bots… and they’ll be purging the poor and middle class, because once you have robots to do all the other stuff the next step is to reduce the population.

If you and your group control all the raw resources and manufacturing is fully automated, and you have robots smart enough to do all the manual tasks, you don’t need profit, you get to wipe out most of the population and create your paradise.

Not enough people realize we are morlocks, and the Billionaires think they are the Eloi

[–] CannonFodder@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

But everything is driven by profit. I don't think the 1% will be able to pivot to reduced profit for better stability/comfort.

[–] CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Profit only matters when you don’t already own everything, power is the only thing that matters.

[–] jpreston2005@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

But how quickly will hackers be able to gain total control of them? Cops will probably have the administrator password as "password123" or some shit. Or maybe instead of engaging in combat directly, they'll just be running humanoid cameras, lunging after you no matter how quickly you run, or whatever fence you jump over. Long gone will be the days when you could simply outrun the overweight, poorly trained cops. Now these things will be just inches behind you, the whole way blaring sirens and recording your every move. 😐

The spinning jump kick of the law.

Stop right there! Or I won't be able to jump kick you!

"What?! Your heads off!"

"Tis' but a flesh wound! HAVE AT YEE!"

*I love how one of the presenters is choke-laughing the whole time after it's head comes off

[–] Monument@piefed.world 6 points 1 month ago

I feel like that should be disqualifying. Or at least, the robots should be compelled to use the swinging head as a mace.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 34 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I’d still put my money on a battle bot any day of the week.

This looks sad. The obsession with humanoid robots is making less and less sense by the decade.

Support your local robot battle scene.

This show is obviously just to bait people into making better fighting robots for the military, free of charge.

[–] Chaphasilor@lemmy.ml 14 points 1 month ago

So that's gonna be our future. Fighting robots that uncannily get back up with their head dangling on their back.

[–] Andonyx@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

Pointless if their heads don't pop straight up and make a "ziiiiiiing" sound.

[–] ravenaspiring@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I guess it is like watching toddlers walk, but why the random breakout into dance moves? Also how do they target? Seems like they just generally point at the other one.

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 33 points 1 month ago (1 children)

My guess is that they are remote controlled and the operators of the white robot saw that they were winning, so they hit the dance button in the hopes of scoring some points with the audience.

Instead of fighting each other they should do a laundry folding competition. That would be really impressive!

[–] ravenaspiring@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Indeed, a fitted sheet competition!

[–] errer@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Sounds like a strong way to get the robots to want to kill us all

[–] Mac@mander.xyz 10 points 1 month ago

They didn't even hit each other

[–] lavacake1111@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Can we have Hugh Jackman pilot a robot?

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He can't, he's busy fellating Rupert Murdoch.

[–] Monument@piefed.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

What?

(Out of the loop. Don’t know how to unpack that statement.)

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He's literally the godfather to Murdoch's daughter.

[–] CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Well that’s fucking disappointing wtf

[–] jpreston2005@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

yeah seeing him dancing in those stupid fucking AGI commercials now makes me hate him. I tried to watch a cute movie called the Sheep Detectives, and as soon as I saw his dumb ass face I had to turn it off.

They way they get up is pretty cool, but they each have one jump kick attack and nothing else? Those deathbot matches from the early aughts are way cooler.

[–] BigPotato@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

They learned from Mortal Combat to spam their best move.

Turns out it's a mirror battle.

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Total dogshit game

[–] toad@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

This will probably be awesome 10-20 years from now.

[–] SpookyBogMonster@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 month ago

10-20 years from now, these thigs will be gunning down people in the streets

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

Looks real the same way WWE looks real. I mean, you gotta love the skill/tech used to achieve these feats, but real robots fighting with no restraint wouldn't need to take a few seconds to dick around after every kick.

[–] kaklerbitmap@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

Flashback to my first attempts at playing the original arcade Virtua Fighter

Should get Jaleel White to host it.

[–] wraekscadu@vargar.org 4 points 1 month ago

This looks so fun haha

[–] bandanawearingbanana@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Are they autonomous or do they have pilots? I feel like a human touch would make the fights a lot cooler. Like in that one Love, Death and Robots episode.

OMF2097 had really good music...

[–] QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

they also have computers racing 250kmph cars and 130kmph drones

supposedly it's streamed on YouTube but I've never caught one live bc it happens once a year https://a2rl.io/

[–] SoloCritical@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Looks like they got a ways to go yet

[–] QueenMidna@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's very clear none of y'all remember the seminal film Real Steel

[–] QuandaleDingle@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I remember when it came out, but I only saw it last year! IT BLEW ME AWAY. I wasn't expecting a film of that quality!

It's like watching blindfolded "show" martial artists
