MODERATORS

So my username on reddit was u/IAmUser1234567 I had 17k+ Karma, i didn't do anything they just banned my account. Now i guess they have created a digital fingerprint or marked my ip address, because if i create a new account it gets banned almost instantly.

I am loving lemmy(using Voyager on my android phone) so much. Reddit anyways now just contains shity cringe content, it is becoming like insta, I am happy to join lemmy family :)

Probably some sort of AI-driven auto moderation to cut costs at the expense of their users. Sorry that happened to you but glad you found your way here. I was one of seemingly few uses who actually left permanently after they killed the API after ~10 years of daily use. It's only gotten much much worse since then while Lemmy and Piefed keep getting better.

Check out Blorp and Voyager on mobile, and Photon on PC.

You and me both! I left and never went back and it's been one of the best decisions I ever made.

Same, 11+ years. 🫡 The more time goes on the prouder I am of leaving as soon as I did. Seems like it very quickly turned into a much worse place.

I also left after the api drama after 9 years and many thousands of comments.

I’m happy with my move to lemmy. There are some rough areas in the tech and definitely some personalities to watch out. But I think the experience is good

Adding Summit to the list of clients for Android. I personally like that one the best.

Welcome! We don't have karma counts here.

You can have a shit opinion and die on that hill free of consequence.

However, Lemmy is small enough that we all know each other.

Lemmy is small enough that we all know each other.

I don't know about this part, but it's a great place, and you do occasionally bump into people you've met several times. It's fun that way. 😊

[–] Brkdncr@lemmy.world 20 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Bro, I dated your cousin. Both of them.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

I have five cousins, nice try! 🕵️‍♂️

I’ve noticed that disagreements on here are a lot more respectful than on Reddit. For the most part, anyway.

I got banned from reddit and came over to lemmy fully after saying "Peter Thiel should be turned into soup" three times

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

three times

I heard that if you do it in front of a mirror, you'll see a vision of his blood boy

Why do my eyes hurt?

You've never used them before.

[–] domusaltera@piefed.social 18 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Also, when a bunch of people left reddit 3 years ago, it seemed like they flooded it with bots to pad the numbers. In any case welcome! 😁 I've also been here (in some form or another) since the API drama.

I would recommend that you create a couple of accounts on different instances (Piefed/Fedia etc.) because, although it's a lot better these days, sometimes they can suddenly go offline. Not all together usually, but it's nice to still have some way in when that happens.

[–] 712@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I wish we could actually migrate our accounts with all of our data…

[–] Zedstrian@sopuli.xyz 5 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Lost my original Kbin account when it went down and now have the rest of my posts split between Dbzer0 and Sopuli, so it would definitely be useful if accounts could be combined and moved between servers somehow.

[–] 0tan0d@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

What do you do when that happens? Been here for a bit and have not had to deal with that but I would like to be prepared.

Reddit is just too botted out to be a reasonable place for a conversation anymore.

There’s two back and forths before someone gets angry and everyone has a personal anecdote that contradicts any point anyone makes.

I’m shadow banned 12/24 on my old high karma years old account for posting how to make DIY Luigi Mangione prayer candles on witches vs patriarchy

I got banned for saying, "If you see a Nazi, punch a Nazi", as a play on "If you see something, say something".

I had over 950K karma on a 9-year-old account.

I still read a couple of subs there, but I won't care if they start requiring an account to read. I can leave them behind.

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 weeks ago (14 children)

You got banned from the entire site for that?

[–] chunes@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

I got banned from the entire site for reporting a "kill all men" post for misandry.

If you do something an admin doesn't like, they ban you.

I got banned temporarily for being racist apparently... Whilst defending foreigners

I suspect the mod system there is somewhat based on the number of reports now and crazies are abusing it

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Site wide Perma banned for calling someone a "Fucking piece of human garbage" while they were all up and down a thread advocating for murdering trans people.

I got banned. I checked a few days and he was still posting. Not even a suspension.

Apparently I was "spreading hate or promoting violence".

Now? This is nothing new. I got falsely banned after being targeted by a botnet after pissing off a botter and it took a week to process the appeal.

Yep happened to me too I had a good 60k+ Karma on a 5 year old account.

Say that Nazis should be fought back against and that Child predators should be locked away for life and Reddit decided I was a dangerous individual and banned me.

Reddit has become absolutely garbage in that respect. You can be banned for literally anything. They don't even send you a message telling you why anymore. Appeals go into a black hole.

[–] hushable@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

I got banned from r/unpopularopinion circa 2015 for trolling. I submitted a post saying that only because something is on Netflix, doesn't mean that it is automatically good. I got downvoted to hell and a lot of comments showing counter-examples, now that I think about, it must've been Netflix PR team.

Anyhow, decided to delete my account that was prior to the Digg migration, then made a new one, but never posted again. Now I'm here and loving it!

I got banned for making an account just to post in the World Cup threads but the sub wouldn't let me post because my account needed to be older and have a certain amount of karma

This "you can't post message" came with a note saying I could message a mod and then a link to click to do just that, so I did

I explained I wasn't a bot, I was a human, I'd prove it however they wanted, but I couldn't really wait days to post because the World Cup is happening now and in 3 or 4 days I'd miss like 12 games

They responded saying that I had zero karma and had not made any posts...

So I replied that yeah, this is exactly true because I don't like reddit I only signed up to post in the World Cup Match threads

I received a very nasty reply where they told me that reddit was super popular with millions of users and that it wasn't their problem I didn't like reddit and then my account got banned

I believe the World Cup is super popular and so it's not just a random sub ran by random people in the world... but a sub made by reddit and moderated by reddit employees. So I just told a reddit employee I hate their site and so they banned me

It's a pretty shit site

I got here because some bot posted political ragebait in r/AskReddit and I got tired of censoring myself, so I noted I was, and the Mods got butthurt about it. It was venting, more than anything, but (boom) permanent account suspension. I even deleted the posts immediately because I still hadn't reloaded the page. Hasn't seemed to matter.

Really bites too because 90% of what I was on there for was Mine/Hermitcraft content and engagement.

Why does it say this user is banned?

[–] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Modlog says the reason was "spammer" without any other info. They made 2 other threads elsewhere talking about or advertising a game they made, which were deleted, likely by the same mod who just banned them.

i didn't do anything they just banned my account

I have seen people who got banned on lemmy who deserved it say this (there are most likely a lot of cases on reddit where people were banned for a bad reason, but saying that you didnt do anything doesnt mean much)

Isnt karma meaningless? I have gotten more from a single bad joke on a popular community

Isnt ip banning a common way to get around people using alt accounts?

[–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 weeks ago (7 children)

The other day I got a week-long ban. Here's the notification.

Here's my incredibly hateful comment.

They do be banning people for no reason these days

I'm on a three day ban right now for pointing out that ICE agents are racist and take every opportunity to shoot people they think as non human
