3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

The Trump administration’s attempt to prosecute alleged “vandalism” at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool hit a snag Thursday.

U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro attempted to bar former U.S. Olympic canoeist David Hearn from the pool after he pleaded not guilty to damaging it, only to be rebuffed by D.C. Superior Court Judge Carmen McLean.

“The government’s evidence is weak,” one of Hearn’s attorneys, Mary Dohrmann, argued in court.

Another of Hearn’s attorneys, Norm Eisen, said, “Every American should be alarmed about this prosecution. It is not a crime to touch the Reflecting Pool.”

Trump now insists that the pool is fine, even as he is draining it once again.

These fucking jackasses. No one’s buying the vandalism claim so now it’s “fine” while they’re draining it.

MAGA eats this shit up. So it's not true that "no one" is buying it, alas.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

They'll believe anything tho. They could arrest a horse for being a terrorist and MAGA would support it.

American flag with the stripes turned into a circus tent

Pedophile insurrectionists should get what they deserve, until then it's clown show o'clock

This guy has devoted his life to representing this nation, and volunteers significant time to maintain and care for National Park Service Property. One day he rides his bike over to the RP to see what everyone is talking about, and reaches down to see what the big peel feels like, and the Goon Squad immediately scoops him up, and says "You are responsible for all of this!"

C'mon, be serious. This is beyond childish. Perhaps he ought to demand a full jury trial, and then do a ferocious forensic discovery on all the finances, communications, people, decisions, etc. related to this "renovation." I think we'd find a LOT of crime.

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

At any rate, he absolutely should demand a jury trial. They're going to have a very hard time finding 12 people willing to convict him on this bullshit.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

We need to have an open, continuous, and LOUD discussion in this country about Jury Nullification. The courts HATE it when we talk about it, but they need to know that every American juror knows about it, and is willing to employ it. It is our final defense against a MAGA-weaponized justice system.

Drain it and restart the cycle by changing absolutely nothing, let’s have algae blooms on a rolling schedule baby!!

[–] lividweasel@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They’ll drain it and leave it empty, then claim that they always planned to make it that way to symbolize them “draining the swamp”.

[–] cm0002@lemy.lol 5 points 2 days ago

Don't give them any ideas lmao

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Trump is fighting a two front war: one with Iran, the other with algae. He should sign a MoU with the algae until the Iran front is resolved.

[–] aramis87@fedia.io 19 points 2 days ago

he is draining it once again

Is he doing to have his entire SS detail drive over it again, including his multi-ton reinforced limo?

[–] OldQWERTYbastard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This whole administration has been a clown show from the very beginning. But longer it goes on the worse it gets.

[–] SeeMarkFly@lemmy.ml 14 points 2 days ago

Elect a clown, expect a circus.

When a clown sits on a throne, the clown does not become a king, the kingdom becomes a circus.

[–] TachyonTele_Esq@piefed.social 14 points 2 days ago (3 children)

So uh, how's that ballroom doing?

[–] TootSweet@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Five bucks says it grows algae too, somehow.

[–] mr_unfamous@lemmy.myserv.one 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Naw, but it'll be filled asbestos lol

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I genuinely hope it will be.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago

Asbestos is only harmful during construction and demolition so I don’t think it’ll have the effect you’re looking for :(

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

The fuhrer suicide bunker? Its going to take a while to get all the gold leaf onto the ai generated architecture

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 6 points 2 days ago

Construction delays. Having a hard time trying to figure out where to ~~hide~~ house the underage girls.

[–] Jimbabwe@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (2 children)

If I were Trump I’d sell bottled algae-infused paint-peel “reflectivizing” Patriot Water to all my loyal supporters

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

There was a meme a bit ago about this. It was a fake ad showing his two older sons doing exactly this. They were charging by the size of the chunk.

[–] dellish@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

That's just about dumb enough to work!

[–] SeeMarkFly@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 days ago

What a huge waste of the hard earned taxpayer's money.

He should be ashamed of himself.

[–] wuffah@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

There are so many ways to spin, squash, or fix this. Instead, they just roll with Trump’s projected narcissistic delusion as if everyone can’t look out the window and observe the state of a 2000 foot long pool.

This is the very definition of insanity.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 5 points 2 days ago

Trump now insists that the pool is fine, even as he is draining it once again.

Dismiss

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I've read the article twice now and am coming up blank. What was the "first big ask" that the Trump lawyers lost on?

I agree the case is bullshit. I was just hoping to read something about the judge pressing them on something and them failing to have an answer or something. The headline doesn't seem to be explained in the article.

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro attempted to bar former U.S. Olympic canoeist David Hearn from the pool after he pleaded not guilty to damaging it, only to be rebuffed by D.C. Superior Court Judge Carmen McLean.

They attempted to bar him from access.

[–] ClassyHatter@sopuli.xyz 0 points 2 days ago

Well, if the pool is empty, it's (at least mostly) algae free. Also, the blue coating is resting at the bottom of the pool, as was intended. Therefore, the pool is indeed fine, as Trump said.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 days ago

First big ask

Nope. Just a request.

If you're not telling me about this used Buick, you need to forego the salesbro jargon. It's a little embarrassing.
