I don't think they can complete with PCs anyway after they killed off physical media. Steam is a much better choice for all-digital.

Adding to that, with PCs overall, you can still stick an USB disc reader to read physical games, or whichever other physical medias that you may find.

Besides, if still going all digital, there's DRM-free gaming, another field Sony cannot compete by their own choice.

My latest build still has an optical drive, a Blu-Ray burner specifically. There are still plenty of cases with 5 inch bays.

in recent years, more users globally have been using personal monitors. In response, we are selling peripherals such as monitors and speakers to break away from the fixed perception that ‘PlayStation equals the living room

This is dumb. People talk about moving PCs into the living room because currently it kinda sucks. But using PS at your desk with a monitor is completely fine. Always has been. We don't need Sony monitors or speakers for that. But I guess they're trying to expand into proprietary peripherals? Heaven forbid someone should plug a PlayStation into a non-Sony monitor? Maybe PS users will get a DisplayPort out of it?

having worked for sony i can tell you their jp leadership is always so far behind the times they’ll be announcing the fax machine adapter soon

Not a chance for displayport. They're too locked down by proprietary shit. That's all this is they want to sell you a $200 gaming monitor for $500+ and some shitty subpar Bluetooth speakers that are worth $125 for like $275.

Probably all in a package together or some sort if thing like that.

It really worries me that they are not aware that people can do this right now anyway it makes me think the ps6 is only going to be able to hook up to a SONY Bravia pro X80+ whatever.

PS always used to be my favorite and I'm starting to actually hate them now man... Its sad.

Correct, it won't compete

[–] BlackEco@lemmy.blackeco.com 17 points 1 week ago

Feels like they are completely missing the point: people went PC because of the freedom it offers, not because they wanted to play on a monitor rather than in the living room...

[–] bhamlin@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

They got "won't" and "simply" in the wrong order...

Sony can now go gargle my balls.

Is archive down right now? I can't get this to load

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

It loads for me but it does take some time. No, it’s about the 3-D screens they made for the PS3.

[–] itkovian@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

It can't. They have chosen death, maybe.

[–] arcine@jlai.lu 1 points 1 week ago

So close yet so far ! Accurate title : "Next PlayStation simply won't compete with PCs"

[–] Narann@jlai.lu 1 points 1 week ago

Microsoft left console market. Sony try to stay, the Sony way. In the end, peoples will simply play on PC.

[–] DanceMomsSavedMe@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

"Guys guys its cool because now we will sell eye wateringly overpriced Bluetooth speakers and Monitors for you to play your new PlayStation on! After all we here at PlayStation know that was the only difference between a gaming PC and a PlayStation so we look forward to seeing the numbers go up on the spreadsheet next year because of this decision!"

Man I've owned PS since PS1 and I just can't do it anymore. They have lost the plot. Its sad what they've done to PlayStation.
