This means it's time to take down all those faces, restore the Six Grandfathers, and give it back to the Lakota Sioux.

If anyone wants Rushmore back, make it out of concrete by a population center.

[–] Bwaz@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago

Better if he was yeeted off of it.

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Do it. At least destroying that abomination would be the end result.

[–] Alwaysnownevernotme@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] Leviathan@lemmy.world 9 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

It really does look fucking stupid when you really think about it.

[–] Alwaysnownevernotme@lemmy.world 4 points 20 hours ago

One day it's degradation will be a symbol all its own. Perhaps future generations will try to slow it's degradation, perhaps we will add face after face.

But that mountain won't care a bit. And one day nobody will know the difference.

[–] Olgratin_Magmatoe@slrpnk.net 2 points 20 hours ago

I'd maybe be ok with this if it was in the form of his head being on a pike.

[–] Grass@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 day ago

The existence of mount rushmore is already a disgrace as it is

[–] MushuChupacabra@piefed.world 46 points 1 day ago (2 children)

That would be consistent with all of the vandalism of national monuments they've done so far.

[–] Klear@piefed.world 60 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Mount Rushmore already is an act of vandalism.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 3 points 13 hours ago

Hard agree. I hope it topples over when they try. That mountain is supposed to be sacred.

[–] binux@sh.itjust.works 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, it’s also straight-up unfinished. They really just desecrated Indigenous land and didn’t even have the consistency in their shitty behaviour to carry it out completely.

The current Idiot-in-chief adding his likeness to it would be like pissing on a shit cake.

In the defense of the incompleteness it's more a side effect of original plans being scrapped due to rock strengthen. Basically it was originally going to be grander but those plans were largely scrapped due to rock strength and the original crews just kinda getting sick of working on it.

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 1 points 19 hours ago

I mean, that mountain is a monument to a bunch of assholes. He definitely belongs there too.

[–] DesertCreosote@piefed.blahaj.zone 25 points 1 day ago (5 children)

This has already been looked into, because he said he wanted to be on Mount Rushmore during his first term, and a bill was introduced last year to add him.

No matter how much he may want it, it’s not possible; there’s not enough rock left on the mountain, and what’s there is too fragile to support it.

The New York Times actually had a good article last year with 3D visualizations showing exactly why it can’t happen: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/06/27/us/mount-rushmore-trump.html?unlocked_article_code=1.vFA.N4J6.i9vauCc4EdSZ

So at least there’s that.

[–] matthurtme@lemmy.world 4 points 20 hours ago

I hope they try and then end up ruining the disgusting disgrace of a stolen Sioux mountain. This country is so gross.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

You're a fucking fool if you think that would stop them from trying.

Oh, they absolutely might still try. And if they do, they’ll probably irreversibly destroy some or all of the existing monument, which seems fitting for this administration.

But at least it doesn’t seem possible that we’ll ever end up with Trump’s head up there, no matter how much he might want it, and it does make me a little happy to know that he can’t get everything he wants.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"Too small, too thin, too fragile" - so... perfect for a Trump sculpture doomed to collapse before it's completed...

[–] matthurtme@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago

If they do somebody has to sculpt his tiny hands life sized under the orange rapists head

[–] KraeuterRoy@feddit.org 19 points 1 day ago

As if facts would stop the regime. I bet there's some sort of a pool guy (and, purely coincidentally, Republican donor) that can pour that mug in concrete and nail it to the rock.

I hope you're not too attached to that monument - once everything collapses, there will be a sabotage/terrorism spinjob and they'll start searching for a new rock face in which to carve Trump, Trump, Trump and Trump.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

NYT has some pretty good infographics sometimes.

I would absolutely not call this "cool" though. Sickening maybe.

[–] whyNotSquirrel@sh.itjust.works 2 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

ah, yeah, by "cool" I meant the technical side of the website, not the subject of content itself

[–] rauls5@lemmy.zip 17 points 1 day ago (2 children)

More distractions while he and his brood steal billions and billions, and remove any means of prosecution for crimes, past, present, and future.

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

These aren’t distractions.

For one thing, he’s not that clever. There’s no plan to distract you. You’re giving him far too much credit.

For another, he really is this this big an idiot. He’s blundering through the government like a big fat toddler, just breaking shit at random. Stop making it sound like he’s a mastermind. What he’s doing is more dangerous than a plan, because nobody has defenses against this.

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Remember the SCOTUS is giving too much power to a President. Precdent has been set, so let's vote for the next President that will use executive orders with as much abandon as ever, to claw back those billions. What we forget is that Trump is singular with his cutthroat aporach to thuggish-gangsta style "leadership" due to WHO taught him how to act: Roy Cohn, who is now dead and no one can replicate. JD Vance will be eaten alive by the Senate, and the Mitch McConnells are tottering on their graves and "capitalism" has become so toxic to families in it's late (or end-) stage form, that social problems won't be fixed by it, leading to political ones. Mamdani isn't an outlier.. he's the slowly arriving future.

[–] rauls5@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I sure hope so. My wish is that they curtail presidential powers to an almost ceremonial level. No immunity, no pardons, no executive orders. While in office and direct or indirect income other than the presidential salary should be relinquished and full public availability of tax and business records will be a requirement.

[–] matthurtme@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago

I think that no government worker should be making anymore money than the minimum wage. Watch the minimum wage suddenly become liveable then.

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 6 points 1 day ago

Comic book villain

[–] CobraChicken3000@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

A 10-story lafufu would be a better addition than Trump's bloated pedo face.

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 16 points 1 day ago

Current White House says a lot of stupid shit... and does even more.

[–] DMCMNFIBFFF@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

FWIW,

wp:Mount Rushmore

Borglum chose Mount Rushmore in part because it faces southeast for maximum sun exposure. The carving was the idea of Doane Robinson, South Dakota's state historian. Robinson originally wanted the sculpture to feature American West heroes, such as Lewis and Clark, their expedition guide Sacagawea, Oglala Lakota chief Red Cloud,[11] Buffalo Bill Cody,[12] and Oglala Lakota chief Crazy Horse.[13] Borglum, arguing that the sculpture should be national in scope rather than regional, convinced them to choose the four presidents instead.

...

The sculpture at Mount Rushmore was built on land that was taken from the Sioux Nation in the 1870s.[16] The Sioux continue to demand return of the land, and in 1980 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in United States v. Sioux Nation of Indians that the taking of the Black Hills required just compensation and awarded the tribe $102 million. The Sioux have refused the money, and demand the return of the land. This conflict continues, leading some critics of the monument to refer to it as a "Shrine of Hypocrisy".[17]

...

The peak that would later be known as Mount Rushmore is situated in the Black Hills, which has been inhabited by numerous indigenous groups over the centuries. The Ponca, Arikara, and Mandan were among the earliest recorded inhabitants, and were later displaced by the Kiowa, Plains Apache, and Shoshone. By 1800 those groups were supplanted by the Cheyenne, Arapaho, and Lakota Sioux, with the Lakota becoming the majority in the area by 1850.[18][19]

...

Proposals to add additional faces

In 1937, when the sculpture was not yet complete, a bill in Congress supporting the addition of women's rights activist Susan B. Anthony failed. When the sculpture was completed in 1941, the sculptors said that the remaining rock was not suitable for additional carvings. This stance was shared by RESPEC, an engineering firm charged with monitoring the stability of the rock in 1989. Proposals of additional sculptures include John F. Kennedy after his assassination in 1963, and Ronald Reagan in 1985 and 1999 – the latter proposal receiving a debate in Congress at the time.[120] Barack Obama was asked about his own potential addition in 2008 and he joked that his ears were too large.[121]

Donald Trump has expressed interest in his own addition to the mountain. During a 2017 rally in Ohio, Trump said, "I'd ask whether or not you some day think I will be on Mount Rushmore ... If I did it joking, totally joking, having fun, the fake news media will say, 'He believes he should be on Mount Rushmore.' So I won't say it."[122] South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem described the potential addition as Trump's "dream" in 2018.[123] On January 28, 2025, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) introduced a bill, H.R. 792, in the House of Representatives to add Trump's likeness to the monument.[124]

Goddamnit! Sorry my family got involved folks. (Bill Cody is a second cousin, thrice removed. Or he was the second cousin of my great grandmother)

[–] kurmudgeon@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I will find a way to acquire a rocket launcher and shoot it at that fucking thing if that happens.

Honestly I'm pretty sure physics would do that for you if he tried; the initial plan for that thing included more presidents but the rock was deemed too unstable. And that was with, y'know, actual competent engineers, not whoever the fuck Rapey the Clown would hire for the project.

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

You know what? Why the fuck not?

Why not add a rapist criminal conman who is actively destroying society to the most egregious symbol of cultural and societal destruction that is the project that took a sacred location and desecrated it as a monument to elite white male colonialism and the seizing of culture?

Seems fitting to me.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

They could add him with a noose around the neck dangling of one presidents ear.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Maybe on a pike

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

Fuck it. Yeah go ahead. Make it bigger than the other ones. Make the hat an observation deck.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

He could hire his pool guy to do a bad paint job of him somewhere in the vicinity. When it starts peeling in a few days, he can blame it on "antifa".

[–] grimpy@lemmy.myserv.one 1 points 1 day ago

yes! Encase the dotard in plaster & epoxy him up there with the other stone heads

The united snakes deserve this.

[–] mercano@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I can think of 40 more suitable people.

[–] matthurtme@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago

I can think of an entire nation of indigenous peoples
