The Minions bring their penchant for mayhem to Hollywood history in this affectionate and charming sendup of moviemaking magic, turning out the franchise's most roundly enjoyable entry yet.

We saw it yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it after being completely disappointed with Toy Story 5 the week prior.

Weren't the minions cringy boomer bait almost immediately?

It feels like they’ve been reclaimed in the past few years. My wife and I thought the same thing, but find them actually pretty funny now. The minion memes swept Facebook boomer feeds for a while though and probably still do.

Illumination locked tf in for once.

Also, if you had told someone last year that Supergirl would get outjerked by the Minions, you'd be laughed out of the room.

Why? The new DC universe was still in uncertain waters and the last minions movie was rated pretty favorably.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The new Superman movie was fantastic, though.

Ehh, it was definitely polarizing and not like the movies before it. That's for sure.

I definitely wouldn't call it fantastic. I do like it though.

polarizing

He’s a solar powered immigrant who overcomes his parents’ bigotry. I can’t believe a certain segment of the population would think it was targeting their culture.

Is this a serious post? Do people actually think it was targeting their culture?

I don't see how he overcame his parents' bigotry. He doesn't even find out about it to nearly the end of the movie. He didn't grow up around it. At best you could say it's not genetic. But I think most everyone knows that already.

Yep, serious. Superman is woke now, say the loud internet morons.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago

Same crowd that's mad the Star Trek got woke.

I definitely wouldn’t call it fantastic.

I call it Mr. Fantastic!

I'd have believed that outcome even if someone said it 5 years ago. I like some of the DC stuff, but most of it in the last 15 years has just been entertaining, not actually good.

Is it that surprising? I think we can all agree on these universal truths: Vin Diesel is cool, Mamma Mia rules, and the Minions are funny.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I can't tell if you're joking or not.

[–] breakfastmtn@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Not. It's a reference to a comedy podcast about movies (Scott Hasn't Seen).

Edit: err... Not serious, I mean. Cut me some slack. It's Canada Day and I'm maybe not perfectly sober.

And Rotten Tomatoes should not be trusted
