My favorite episode is the one where Ren gets split into the two opposite sides of his personality: his evil side, and his indifferent side. I've never seen that episode since and I wonder what ever happened to it. I remember it was pretty dark, which is saying something for Ren and Stimpy.

Steeeeempy you eeeeeediot!
Oh joy!

Ah the classics.
Interesting while I was a kid watching this scene I don't exactly remember this being that gross. But now I see why.
Nerve endings??? What good are those?!?!?!
I hate you, you know how many years I've spent locking this episode away to protect myself from further trauma.
Sends a shiver down my spine.

The one bonus is it got me to brush my teeth.
I still have nightmares because of this to this day.
A lot of children's entertainment is body horror... I was recently rewatching Spongebob with my kids, and even that had a bunch of scenes where horrible things happened to the characters.
Literally the same animators making the same joke
Whoa, TIL
Squidward's toenail 🥲
I mean.... Itchy and Scratchy? Tom and Jerry? Wile E. Coyote? This isn't really new.
But Itchy and Scratchy was literally a parody of Tom and Jerry poking fun at how central the violence was to the humor.
I smell something stiiinky!

The weirdest part of ren and stimpy for me was always the smash cuts to the grossout oil painting-like still frames.
Pure nightmare fuel.
Loved that. I think spongebob got the idea from them and made it work so well. I miss old animation, real art and soul.
The closeups... yes I can still see them etched in my mind lol. John K was a bodily fluid artisan
They called them "gross-ups" and I love them.
I was just thinking this morning how we all watched "jackass". How are we all this normal?
I don't know, to me Jackass was always guys being fucking stupid and nothing to admire. Ren & Stimpy was genuine entertainment though
I was too old but my guess is you tried the stunts and realized your heros are dumb as fuck...? Maybe.
I grew up in a sheltered environment. I was friends with these guys:

That show was still pretty wierd.
Yeah, he was constantly getting invitations from his neighbor. Not to mention he worked for a phone sex service.
Isn't this also the show that had the bit where a group of butch women on motorcycles show up and proceed to devour all the carpet in his house (i.e. "munching carpet/rug munching")?
That was Cow and Chicken. Those were the “Buffalo Gals” (“won’t you COME OUT tonight” was their refrain if I recall).
Fun fact: Heifer is voiced by Tom Kenny who went on to voice SpongeBob.
He was also on the greatest show of all time called "Mr. Show with Bob and David". And went on to become an absolute legendary voice actor. His imdb page is absolutely insane.
I’ve been needing to watch that, I’ll move it up the list.
Honestly so is that of the guy who did Rocco. Whose credits include among other things the Taco Bell dog and Spyro the Dragon.
Carlos Alquazari definitely did a lot more things, like reno 911. Hillenbrand was a creative executive on Rocco and went of to create spongebob. And, yes, go immediately and watch mr show. It's not just me saying it, its sooooo many comedians favorite comedy ever. Groundbreaking in so many ways.
Ohh that must be where Austin got his name from then
"No sir. I don't like it."
"Call the police."
Fish sauce!
It's Ren & Stimpy, but I have no idea which episode.
yeeaa, the guy that made that is not safe around kids...
