I do have to say, it is rich when the mainstream press presents foreign-born players on Western teams as immigrants/refugees, but when Arab teams do the same they present it as thinly veiled bribery.

there's a layer of racism to it, to think (we all know they're talking about the african players here lmao) that black people are genetically better at sports. instead of looking at the actual material cause of it (european countries can afford better roids)

It's Fergie of course there is. My friend knows him but cut ties with him. He's a rich failson with a white savior complex and a dipshit chauvinist and/or probably a fed.

Isn't that the white girl from the black eyed peas?

RHETORIC(FAILURE): Are immigrants bourgeois?

[–] baahb@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 3 weeks ago

A nation having a healthy immigrant population is often signal of a thriving bourgeoisie.

Kidnappings people and forcing them into servitude... Also a sign of a thriving bourgeoisie.

So yes? But also no.

There's like, almost a point to this about double standards for teams and colonialism, but then it just gets kinda... :/

I don't think I've ever seen a leftist with this sort of unnecessarily verbose and obtuse writing style showing off their mighty intellect that wasn't full of bad takes.

Spreading nonsense about fast-twitch muscle fiber and skull circumference but citing Marx to justify it

I don't see the racism you guys are seeing, please enlighten me!

I have similar frustrations, many players for France, for example, hold citizenship or originate from Lebanon, Algeria, Guinea, Nigera, etc.

Whether these players decide to play for France based on their national identity or if they just want to win, I do find it depressing how many of them play for a team that represents a country oppressing their people.

There's also a stigma that I've personally seen with people who hold dual-nationalities. I knew someone who decided to represent their home-country instead of Amerikkka for the Olympics, and the town gossip was that she wasn't good enough to qualify for Amerikkka.

To me it radiates similar energy as the US providing H1B visas to talent from across the world. We will poach the best of your country, and all the resources you poured into this person throughout their life will provide no benefit to your society.

For me it's

"European"

Specifically because of the air quotes. To me it echos nativist sentiment where there is nothing an immigrant can do to sufficiently integrate. Second paragraph largely parses.

[–] stink@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 3 weeks ago

That's valid. I'd probably catch that, but I've been on a hate-streak on the global north that I never even considered someone wanting to be integrated lol

[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 1 points 2 weeks ago

You can say that "without mass migration, European countries would be without a large fraction of their present-day sports stars" without insinuating that these stars are actually not fully British or French and so on.

When white liberals oppose racial discrimination, they usually do it without discarding the white supremacy and race essentialism. It doesn’t occur to them that racism is a logic, not merely a behavior of prejudice. It’s not enough to resist prejudice; you have to uproot the logic that justifies it.

Borders and nationalities are stupid the way I see it. "Oh, look at all this cool stuff I make for MY bourgeoisie." And then you look and it's the same 200 jokers anyway.

Just let the damn players play football

There would also be way more nonwhite countries, and all the people in those countries would much better-fed, taller, and more athletic, and the global temp would be about 10 F lower enabling them to practice way more sports for way longer.
