Holy shit! That's fucking amazing!

Hopefully a lot of people in Moscow are watching

[–] Glowstick@lemmy.world 22 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Absolutely mental scene. Completely bananas

[–] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Or completely buckwheat as the case may be.

[–] ewo@piefed.ca 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

My ex Russian girl used to make the best buckwheat porridge. She was also Ukrainian too and thankfully she's away from witnessing all of this shite in the Netherlands.

Ooh, a new form of turret tossing!

[–] ButtermilkBiscuit@feddit.nl 34 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If only there was some way to stop this immediately?

[–] ClassyHatter@sopuli.xyz 17 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It would be too costly to attach the caps more securely.

Sorry to be serious about jokes, but I thought I’d share the fun fact that these caps are actually not attached at all, which is probably why it got yeeted (yote?) so cleanly. If the storage tank had a top at a fixed height, vapors would accumulate in the air space above the oil, so these huge tops actually float on top of the fluid and rise and fall with the fluid level. You can tell how full they are just by looking at them from above.

Edit: turns out the lid flip tank actually wasn’t the floating lid design, at least not in its earthly state. I still think they’re neat anyway.

That shows US reserves are all but gone.

[–] ClassyHatter@sopuli.xyz 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hey, that’s cool information. Although, my point still stands: way too expensive to attach those caps in place.

Do you happen to have any idea how large that container might have been? I assume there’s no standardized sizes for containers like that…

[–] Knoxvomica@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

That's the point you don't attach them in place. They have to move up and down, they basically float on the oil.

[–] lurch@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

how about not triggering a series of evenrs that lead to them being blown off?

[–] sukhmel@programming.dev 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Do you mean legally forbid rapid combustion? You may be on to something

[–] ladicius@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Cutting off oxygen could help.

Especially when applied to their psychopath FΓΌhrer.

[–] Hayduke@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

The icing on the cake was that it was caused by a drunk Russian missile, not a Ukrainian drone.

[–] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

First we got cosmonauts, now we got flying saucers!

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 36 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Ah. That legend always brings a smile to my face

[–] swizzlestick@lemmy.zip 18 points 2 days ago

Only natural for the turret toss to evolve in such a way

Honestly I was thinking I'd have to delete it for being AI slop based on the thumbnail photo, but the videos are-jaw dropping

[–] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

it just got way better, a video from a new angle just dropped that shows that the container explosion was indeed set off by a russian air defense missile missing the drone.

edit lafinlandia already beat me to it and posted on the Ukraine ocmmunity here

Pure Gold

This is possibly the best example I have ever seen of why air defense is not something you can bullshit.

Tankies tank tank with antitank missile

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 days ago

That's a apartement building sized disk that flew 20 - 30 stories high?

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 days ago

Russian tanks and Russian Fuel Depots seem to share some DNA.

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

You can forget how big these refinery/storage places get.

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

Ukraine knows its stoichiometry!

[–] macaw_dean_settle@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Stop vertical video syndrome.

That boat left the harbor years ago. This fact continues to deepen my already strong dislike of humanity.

It’s party time!

I want to believe
