Chat is a text only community for casual conversation, please keep shitposting to the absolute minimum. This is intended to be a separate space from c/chapotraphouse or the daily megathread. Chat does this by being a long-form community where topics will remain from day to day unlike the megathread, and it is distinct from c/chapotraphouse in that we ask you to engage in this community in a genuine way. Please keep shitposting, bits, and irony to a minimum.

As with all communities posts need to abide by the code of conduct, additionally moderators will remove any posts or comments deemed to be inappropriate.

Thank you and happy chatting!

Only on reddit can you say "pedophilia is bad and AI tech should have more regulation against csam" and get downvoted to oblivion and have someone named "xXxdark_SHADExXx" reply with "oh so you're against free speech?"

Burn it down, repurpose the datacenter into housing for the homeless, anything but this absolute cretin shit.

Yeah, even the more "leftist" subreddits like Gamingcirclejerk is filled with libs of all kinds, and apparently to them it's fine to call China fascist somehow

Edit: Learned my lesson, never interacting in that cesspool again, it's full of the most smug libs imaginable who just want to ragebait you

Remember that time the siterunners accidentally revealed the entire site as an Eglin AFB psyop.

I saw a video clip on reddit frontpage of Knicks fans doing vandalism on public property after the NBA Finals Win and it had dozens of comments that said "this is why you shouldn't have defunded the police". Police are currently receiving more funding than ever before. Police are the only group of people that Americans will say deserves more pay while not serving their supposed purpose.

I wish I had that level of job security, the amount of not-work I get done when I should be working would be enough to make me a millionaire.

and then if you say something on the naughty list like "Israel uses dogs to SA prisoners systematically and regularly" you will get insta perma'd. So much for the land of "free speech absolutism"

I don’t know what the solution is but not reading Reddit is a reasonable first step. It’s so obviously overrun by bots and astroturfing that it’s pointless to visit anymore

The internet/social media was a mistake and I’m sure there’s others out there that feel the same way.

I wish Lemmy was more busy. I keep getting bored when my feed runs out here, but then I instantly regret it when I pop on reddit. Every. Time.

Sometimes when I Google a technical problem, Reddit comes up, but even then most answers to modern tech problems appear to be AI and work less and less often.

first of all, fuck yeah i'm against free speech

secondly, comments on major subreddits are now almost entirely bots or people who are so thoroughly propagandized that their posts are indistinguishable from bots

Someone reported this for ableism based on the last two adjectives in your title, please edit the post and remove them or I will remove this post in 3 hours

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I literally thought cretin and knuckle-dragger were just fancy neutral terms that weren't ableist, wow.

[–] abc@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No worries! It happens. Thanks for editing it rat-salute-2

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago

Yeah np. Kind of shocked, my world of insults that are not ableist got smaller.

It was originally a word for people with congenital iodine deficiency syndrome, so yes.

If we're talking personal opinions, I don't think so but I also don't think 'idiot' or other 100+ yo medical terms that have shifted to be generic insults are exactly ableist unless you're using them with their original definitions and not the commonly accepted ones, but if someone is offended by a post I'm gonna look at things from their perspective and not my personal beliefs shrug-outta-hecks

Use parental controls to block yourself from it.

Been using reddit since I graduated high school and I genuinely feel like I’ve wasted my life because of it

I recently checked back on reddit for the first time in years. Where did all the Indian subreddits come from? There were several on the front page.
