MODERATORS
This happens a lot in the trans community. Cis "ally" artists love to draw trans men with giant garish top surgery scars and trans women with visible facial hair, big bulges in their crotch, and bodies that look like they've never seen a drop of estrogen. In other words, they draw us with features that most trans people find extremely disturbing and painful on our own bodies, features we work very hard to hide or fix.
When called out on it, these artists inevitably retreat to, "well, some trans women/trans men/nonbinary folks have that feature." Are there some radical gender-fuck queer folk who rock boobs and a beard simultaneously, in a kind of anarchist "fuck the system" vibe? Sure. And all the best to those folks. Do whatever makes you happy.
But these folks the exception, not the rule. And the artists in question draw trans people like this as the rule, not the exception. They don't draw ten normal-looking trans people and one rainbow explosion gender warrior. They draw them all with prominent features that would trigger most trans people. Like, they don't even bother having their trans women shave. The way some "inclusive" artists draw trans people is indistinguishable from the way literal hate artists draw us. Rather than hate, I think for a lot of them it's just a sexual fetish.

Fun fact - some of the "sound" is actually infrasound. Infrasound is caused by pressure waves below our hearing threshold, but our bodies and brains can still detect it. It's often associated with feelings of "doom" and discomfort. Volcanoes, severe weather, earthquakes, and other massive earth-moving events are known to cause it, as are many large animals, such as elephants. It's part of the reason that animals flee before natural disasters.
Humans, with our superstitious nature, sometimes attribute the sensation to supernatural causes. This can happen when old houses settle and create infrasound, leading people to feel that the house is "haunted." The vibration of infrasound is also very close to the natural resonance frequency of our eyes, which can result in visual hallucinations, adding to "haunted" reputations.
Either way, if you're near the beach and you feel a sudden sense of doom overtake you, it might be best to listen to your gut and leave the area.
I live less than a mile from the beach, does sudden doom feel significantly different than constant existential dread?

I think this drawing needs to be modified. Add you to it shouting at the guy in the chair, "put those beakers down!" I'm off to the side giving a pedantic correction. And we're all being carried away by the water.

The wording of this sounds like the tsunami causes the earthquake and it's really making my head hurt.
If I were to guess... a bunch of artists produced clipart for the book and someone fit it together. Science and stuff. Page layouts get amusing frequently (sometimes intentionally...)
As far as the content of the text goes... its good advice. Some things we take for granted are not always well known. Tsunamis are terrifying and nature plays for keeps... (example) and loves to remind us of how powerless we can be. (animated example)
We can certainly laugh and call it common sense - but really, unless you start moving the second an early warning hits - you may well just be a statistic simply based on your relative location to the event.

I don't think they were commenting on the lack of vehicle, I think it was more about the wheelchair in the sand and the surf. I'd assume it's not exactly an ideal environment for a quick escape, but hey, I could be wrong, I've never tried it!

I caught a handicapped dude trying to park in one of our spots last week. I rolled me and my buggy into the spot first and sat my ass down in the middle of the spot. Dude had to drive up front and take an open handicapped spot. The nerve!
