Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

A federal judge on Friday ordered the Trump administration to restore sites changed under an executive order calling for the nation’s museums, parks and landmarks to not display elements that “inappropriately disparage Americans past or living.”

The preliminary injunction issued by U.S. District Judge Angel Kelley in Massachusetts also orders a pause on any additional changes, writing that the plaintiffs have shown that these efforts are meant “to rewrite the Nation’s history with a white-out pen.”

“History cannot be faithfully told while excluding the experiences of communities whose contributions, struggles, and achievements form an important part of our Nation’s story,” the judge wrote.

Genuine question...

What powers does the judge have if the Trump administration just ignore those orders?

[–] DJKJuicy@sh.itjust.works 17 points 1 day ago

That's the thing. Our country has been running on Gentlemen's Agreements for the past 240 years or so.

All of that breaks down when people who aren't gentlemen take power. Until now the Administrative Branch would just comply with the Judicial Branch's court order because the Constitution says that's what you're supposed to do. Now? Who knows...

Trump isn’t personally in charge of any of this shit, the NPS workers are going to comply with the order.

[–] Babalugats@feddit.uk 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

But if he tells them to ignore the order?

Does the judge have any real power to do anything?

I think the other poster is mostly right but they aren’t answering your real question. Nothing. The judiciary system has no power to genuinely restrain the president from continuing with an act, especially if the chain of command follows suit.

Well his name was removed from the Kennedy Center so someone is listening to the orders.

[–] Zoot@reddthat.com 1 points 18 hours ago

Was it though? So far all they've done is installed a tarp

[–] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Do you honestly believe the majority of NPS staff will listen to Trump over a judge?

[–] Babalugats@feddit.uk 5 points 1 day ago

No idea. I was just wondering what actual power the judge has.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

Trump can fire them, but the judge can put them in jail. Make your choice.

This tyrant wants a legacy so badly but he can't make any decision stick for even 18 months.

When he's out, we need to pass a law making it ILLEGAL to name anything after him - buildings, highways, airports, bridges, etc. How many tributes to Hitler do you see around Germany?

[–] GraniteM@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He's trying to build his own monuments while he's alive because no one will build monuments to him after he's dead.

i'm sure we'll eventually get a Daughter's of the fifth reich type of organization to pop up and start funding memorials to Trump's fascist icons.

I saw a picture of a plaque in the White House that calls former President Biden "Sleepy Joe". Trump should be required to use appropriate and truthful language on that, as well.

I remember when George W Bush was elected, people were concerned about how he didn't conduct himself with the dignity that was expected of his office. But at least he wasn't pure trash like Trump is.

DonOLD and his stupid cronies and his base are just petty bitter clingers.

That's the thing I love most about the Right.

The more they say they love America, the less they know about the actual history of the place.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Everything they know about history comes from country songs.

I was in another thread and someone told me that Nixon was the victim of a plot by 'legacy media.'

I miss the days of objective reality.
