Wait until they put the ads on the model...

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago

I remember back in the late 90s software did this. has been happening for decades.

that said, Pihole or a DNS that blocks advertisers should resolve this, right?

Does it work outside LAN Only mode?

What I would like was something like:

  • From LAN and any damn slicer of my choosing, send prints directly to printer. Read printer and ams state.

  • From bambulab handy, slicer, etc, the same as above.

I don't see why these should be mutually exclusive options.

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

It does work. Though my bambu printer is on an older firmware because it's the only way to use my DIY AMS

[–] Trilogy3452@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago

I use mine on LAN only (I also blocked its internet access from my router just in case). So wouldn't know.

And yes I totally agree

I was torn between getting Bambu vs Prusa when upgrading from my old printer, but with the spyware, open source threats, and now this I think I chose well.

[–] Joelk111@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

The choice has been obvious for a long time, even back when my Prusa Mk3s+ was the latest Prusa printer.

[–] rabidhamster@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Bought a Mk3s used for $200 recently. Still fucks hard, just more slowly than the newer ones. No regrats.

[–] Chowtime3688@sopuli.xyz 4 points 22 hours ago

Also, when and if you want to, you can upgrade that thing.

Mine hasn't been the most reliable tbh, but it could be my fault. I think my next printer will be the Prusa XL with at least 2 toolheads, or whatever the equivalent is when I finally am ready to drop that dough. I think I'll also pay extra for them to build it because, as much fun as it was to build my Mk3s+, I do wonder if some of my performance issues are my fault due to the assembly...

[–] filcuk@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I recently got core one l, and it's a beast.
By the way try prusa support, I hear good things, apparently they help even with 'self-introduced' issues

[–] Burninator05@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'll second this and add that they have been quick to respond for me. I emailed them on a Saturday morning and got a response within about 30 minutes.

[–] Kondeeka@lemmy.world 3 points 23 hours ago

Can confirm too, had a core one from the first batch and I broke some parts during assembly. Got sent new parts, with extra spares and 600 grams of carbon fibre PETG in case I needed any other parts, all free of charge (they knew I had a second printer).

[–] Badabinski@kbin.earth 1 points 1 day ago

I love my XL. It's been the best printer I've ever owned.

[–] Shoshin@aussie.zone 41 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Just use orcaslicer anyway. It's better in every way.

[–] SorteKanin@feddit.dk 3 points 14 hours ago

Sure, but the point of this post is to highlight Bambu's anticonsumer practices.

I've been considering what printer to buy for a while now, but I sure as hell know it won't be a Bambu.

[–] RobotToaster@mander.xyz 30 points 1 day ago

I've added it to the ever expanding list on the wiki https://consumerrights.wiki/w/Bambu_Lab#Helio_Additive

[–] directive0@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Its hard not to be smug as a lowly ender 3 peasant to have everything I was worried about Bambu doing slowly coming true.

I mean... I wish my printer worked as well as all my Bambu friends, but this helps a little... this helps...

[–] galaxy_nova@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Prusa go brrrrr

[–] esc@piefed.social 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There are tons of better printers now that give you results similar to bbl without their bullshit, you don't need to suffer (unlessyou want to).

[–] tonyn@lemmy.ml 5 points 22 hours ago

Can you recommend one comparable to the H2C? I would love one with 7 hot swappable hotends, intelligent filament switching, inductive heating, and a 40W laser module.

[–] BlackVenom@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I replaced 2 ender 3s with a bambu a1 after confirming I can just use SD cards to print... I don't deal with whatever is going on.

I regret not doing it sooner. Granted I wouldnt choose Bambu today. Enders are nice but so damn slow.

[–] Olgratin_Magmatoe@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 day ago

I may need to manually level my bed every time I print, but I never see ads, and have zero privacy holes in my printer.

And it's gonna stay that way. And when it eventually dies, it's time to harvest the corpse and build a voron printer.

[–] paf@jlai.lu 5 points 1 day ago

Nothing really new actually, this plugin has been there for some time.

[–] shweddy@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Thanks for this! Will check this out.

[–] PostProcess@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not wanting to defend bambu, I'm hardly on their side! but this integration was announced about a year ago on v2.2, this isn't new, nor is it general advertising, just a collaboration they started on a year ago.

[–] Natanox@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 1 day ago

Oh wow, this went completely under my radar (how didn't anyone brought it up in any of the videos recently made about how shitty Bambu is?). Seems like at least a few people didn't know though, so I'm just leaving it here. :)

[–] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

What did Bambu users expect when they paid a price that was too good to be true? Of course they are the product.

[–] uninvitedguest@piefed.ca 9 points 1 day ago

That's been there for at least a year, from my recollection.

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

That's some type of assist for settings. It's not an ad and you don't have to click it and it doesn't pop up.

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

know your print will work

Are 3D-printers any better there?

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Is there some FOSS replacement for the bambu soft?

[–] dfyx@lemmy.helios42.de 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Thanks!

What part does it do? Slicer I guess 😁, but what about the printer itself, does it need a new firmware?

[–] dfyx@lemmy.helios42.de 2 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

It‘s basically the same as the Bambu slicer but without the branding and with some additional features. You can install the Bambu network plugin and use your printer without modifications.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 hours ago

Thanks! Will check out.
