“There’s no money to pay for that. That’s socialism. ”

There’s trillions of dollars of misappropriated funds between the billionaire class and the ruling class.

[–] rayyy@piefed.social 7 points 1 week ago

You mean the Epstein class.

[–] joeljoelle@piefed.blahaj.zone 27 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Wait until he can't even eat his steak because all of the livestock has been infected with screwworms due to deregulation ope.

[–] GorGor@startrek.website 28 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Not even deregulation. we had a cheap efficient program that held screw worm out of north america. Basically we irradiated male grubs which sterilized them, then froze the fly's and dropped them over an area to prevent them from breeding and spreading.

This was cut because we were operating outside the US and why should other countries also benefit from our tax dollars.

The dumbass 'gubment bad' crew fucked us all.

[–] Asafum@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Wait wait wait... That was really cut? I thought this was just them somehow making a comeback, I didn't know we actually cut the program that stopped them...

God I'm so fucking tired of living in the stupid timeline...

[–] GorGor@startrek.website 23 points 1 week ago

we had pushed them past Panama.

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I don't think they cut all of it, just most of it.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 week ago

Yup, they got Elon's chainsaw...

[–] joeljoelle@piefed.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 week ago

Wow, amazing, thank you for that background I did read about it but didn't realize it was quite so simple, relatively speaking. I can't believe the short sightedness of these folks, it's unbelievable, it was probably a drop in the hat in the budget and now it's going to end up costing way way more than they saved, hopefully no one dies, poor animals though although I suppose they were set to be eaten anyways but still.

[–] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

[–] ragepaw@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

RFK calls that business as usual.

[–] joeljoelle@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

LOL, well does he seem to like worms, or worms like him.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 2 points 1 week ago

Well, like my paw paw always said, parasitic worms that flock together ...

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 24 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Define irony. An army of bigots violently detaining and often killing immigrants and then pretending to worship an immigrant every Sunday (presumedly)

Backwards ass motherfuckers.

[–] jtrek@startrek.website 9 points 1 week ago

It's all projection. They can't square their self image with the reality so they project it onto other people to sooth the cognitive dissonance. They're garbage people. Like in a deep, fundamental, way. They are bad at existing in a complicated world.

[–] zergtoshi@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

They don't have to live in fear.
They can die and make the world a better place 😇

[–] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago

It's a trillion-dollar-plus oligarch-owned far right propaganda machine that is programming people to ignore rationality and critical thought in favor of fear, rage, hatred and prejudice.

Propaganda works, and when you put enough money and power behind it, the overwhelming majority of us become suckers to it.

If it were combined with a robust social contract, the rich could stay rich and we'd happily let them, but our billionaires have too much and are consumed by their own avarice and indifference, so they seek to rob even those of us on whom their wealth directly depends.

Eventually, there will be nothing left for us to lose, and the Amazon warehouses will start burning.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 17 points 1 week ago

Remember how he would fix healthcare because it was easy?

Pepperidge farm remembers

[–] FabledAepitaph@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago (2 children)

70 billion to fund the most backward, violent, uneducated, and lazy portion of our society. They couldn't make it through college or even get a real beneficial blue collar job like welding or car mechanic work, so they just drive around in their cars and enact violence on others.

[–] joeljoelle@piefed.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They've been dreaming about doing this too, for some it's their dream job, how pathetic is that, what kind of a life is that? Preying on some of the most vulnerable people who also do so much for us, not only in the way of hard work but enriching America with more and more culture which IS WHAT makes America great, that mix. America without immigrants and indigenous peoples would be a bunch of fucking Quakers and nobody (mostly) wants that.

dude don't slander the quakers like that, they're cool. also i'm not sure where you think the quakers came from.

[–] Lemming6969@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

So, it's basically socialist UBI for the downtrodden, like almost all of the military.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 week ago (5 children)

$12 steak? What steak are you buying?

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 8 points 1 week ago

Probably talking about per pound for chuck steak at the grocery store, not as a restaurant meal.

The kind that are aged on a road for a couple weeks, often pre-tenderized with a tire tread-like pattern.

cube steak dude

[–] Denvil@piefed.world 2 points 1 week ago

This is what I want to know

As a European, I find Reckless Ben’s “Lego Scandal” videos quite revealing, because they illustrate very well—albeit on a smaller scale—just how utterly corrupt the U.S. system really is. It’s obviously the same on a larger scale, though the corruption and the outrageous injustice are carried out using the same utterly mindless methods—by truly mindless people whose only distinguishing feature is that they are so incredibly unscrupulous and selfish.

If you haven’t seen the Ben's Lego videos yet, check em out. They really do a great job of showing how the world works in the US.

Edit: Just to be clear: Some of Ben’s methods are certainly questionable, and some things are misrepresented for the sake of production value. Nevertheless, the videos are very compelling and entertaining, even though it’s frightening just how irreparably broken the U.S. system is.

[–] tefbo@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

yea it is a lot of tribalism and then corps leverage it for their gain

[–] DandomRude@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Well, I would say that it is an insurmountable systemic problem if the system allows—or rather, explicitly provides for—the idea that those who don’t have enough money are not entitled to justice. This contradicts the fundamental principle of any democratic state governed by the rule of law. And that is precisely the starting point of Ben’s videos: someone is clearly being robbed, but cannot defend themselves because they have less money than the criminal.

This fact alone shows how absurd the U.S. system is—and that’s just the beginning of the first video. Everything that follows is the reality of this system, which allows—or rather, makes it a logical consequence—that the U.S. president is the person he is.

This is not due to tribal affiliation or the like. It is the result of a constitution written by large landowners for a country where slavery was legal. By the way, in case you didn’t know: The U.S. Constitution is the hardest to amend of all the democratic countries in the world. That is why it is also the least-amended democratic constitution in the world. In other words: It continues to cement the conditions of 250 years ago to this day. What U.S. citizens are experiencing today is merely the consequence of that.

Added to this is just how corrupt the legal system and the executive branches are.

All in all, this results in a state of injustice, which should be perfectly obvious to everyone today. I mean, the U.S. president is obviously more of a mafia godfather than anything that could still be called a politician with a mandate to represent some interests, let alone the people.

This country is an oligarchy that has as little to do with democracy as Russia does.

Ben’s video demonstrates this in a way that should make it quite obvious to everyone. This is not the exception, it is the rule.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He means raw at the grocery store, not cooked at a restaurant.

[–] sydd@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Ribeye is like 19.99 a pound around these parts.

[–] BeardededSquidward@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Don't the Republicans have like only a one seat lead in the senate or something? That means some Dems voted for this.

[–] WhoIsTheDrizzle@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Fetterman is a brain-damaged Republican with a D for douche next to his name, so that's one more in favor.

[–] gmtom@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Idk if it came to fruition but they basically negotiated voting for this in return for not funding Trumps slush fund to pay out for Jan 6th insurrectionists. Which is...... Something. I guess?

[–] dektep@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

why is the steak so cheap?

[–] GorGor@startrek.website 2 points 1 week ago

It's not beefsteak. also no safety inspections, irradiation etc. buyer be ware. 'murica

[–] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

On a thread about a post about people reacting to this news.

Wow nO OnE iS ReACtiNg tO ThIs

I don't get it. If you are worried the people aren't mobilizing fast enough the Senate passed it late at night. It's 11am on the east coast (10 am when you posted) and 9am on the west coast. People will hear the news throughout the day

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world -1 points 1 week ago (2 children)

dude, the attrocitres from the pedo president were plain and obvious to see coming 10 miles away before he took office…

And back then all Americans could muster was "wE ArE nOT thERe yET"

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

Okay yeah if we're not talking about this news, which it really sounded like you were.

I'm not going to disagree that the signs were there and things are shit

[–] YoureHotCupCake@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Hey, we will hold a single protest on a weekend in a few months with the permission of the city and cops will be there to make sure everything is safe for us. When that day comes you will see the best of America and we will show you that we can fight. Its still a few months out though since getting permits from the city takes time to do.

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

this is exactly what we are talking about, you get it

[–] YoureHotCupCake@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Yeah sadly I live here and have to deal with this shit, I say I want to burn down a datacenter and everyone looks at me in a strange way. Yet if you talk to them they all agree that the datacenter will end up killing people and destroy our environment all to enrich the Epstein class and there is nothing we can do about it.

[–] couldhavebeenyou@lemmy.zip 0 points 1 week ago

Well they're the ones that voted for this
