Hurling ordure at the TREACLES, especially those closely related to LessWrong.

AI-Industrial-Complex grift is fine as long as it sufficiently relates to the AI doom from the TREACLES. (Though TechTakes may be more suitable.)

This is sneer club, not debate club. Unless it's amusing debate.

[Especially don't debate the race scientists, if any sneak in - we ban and delete them as unsuitable for the server.]

You show up, you put a ton of effort into a post, and at the end the comment section will tear apart some random thing that isn't load bearing for your argument, isn't something you consider particularly important, and whose discussion doesn't illuminate what you are trying to communicate, all the while implying that they are superior in their dismissal of your irrational and dumb ideas.

That's... the point of the place? It's only superficially an intelligent place for discussion. A breeding ground for Neofascist, Technofeudalist excuses.

Man if only LW posters knew how to use the delete key to shorten their posts to only the load bearing parts, which they consider particularly important and who's discussion illuminates what they were trying communicate. Alas.

Exactly, they write super long winded posts because they are faintly mimicking the style of academic research, but they don't evidence or sources to actually cite, so you end up with posts full of meandering analogies and jargon and then those bits are easy for someone to rip apart.

There is only one means: by commenters pointing out all the places where a post says something wrong—anything wrong. If the error wasn't "load-bearing for your argument", it's still worth pointing out in the comment section, for the benefit of readers who might otherwise be deceived. (We're not going to run out of paper.)

one day you are gonna run out of adderall

If LW banned all its energy vampires then it would have no users

[–] zogwarg@awful.systems 13 points 3 weeks ago

It continues to amaze me how much digital ink they can spill about this issue.

So which of you is running Said Achmiz's account?

Reversing a diaspora only works if the diverse elements of the diaspora are allowed to participate in the repatriation. For example, the State of Israel's legitimacy as a homeland for the Jewish people depends on its including all Jews as the concept has been historically and publicly understood. If a faction of Ashkenazi Jews seized power and arbitrarily decided that Sephardic Jews can't be Israeli, that would seriously undermine the foundations of why many people supported the Zionist project in the first place.

Lol wow that is quite an argument to use. Made even worse by stuff like this

This is so gratuitous, and so irrelevant to the actual demographics of Israel (most Israeli are neither Ashkenazi nor Sephardi, which shouldn't be a surprise if you're vaguely aware of geography) that I have to wonder if this is meant as some sort of weird antisemitic dog whistle. Probably he couldn't even say himself.

In any case, typical ignorance of Israel stans (and many critics sadly) who love to think of it as a white country.

[–] Soyweiser@awful.systems 7 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I assume it is just the genetics/iq fanboying which leads them to think like this, not some weird antisemitic dogwhistle, not that philosemitism isn't also a form of antisemitism via othering.

dog whistle

Ashkenazi IQ (and asian SAT scores) absolutely are the "but I have a black friend!" of race science, but further mythologizing Yud and Scoot on those grounds also happens.

[–] dgerard@awful.systems 4 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

yeah remember that it's a LW tenet that Ashkenazi Jews are of unusually high IQ. Coincidentally a group containing both Eliezer and Scoot

[–] blakestacey@awful.systems 8 points 3 weeks ago

their ancestors were optimized in the shtetl

[–] Amoeba_Girl@awful.systems 2 points 3 weeks ago

To be clear that is exactly why I find the analogy suspect lol, and at the same a tic of this particular milieu so I don’t believe it’s deliberate. Just god lesswrongers sure are weird about stuff.

The normal way for people like Achmiz and Davis to reconcile their differences with a mod team is to set up their own forum, with hookers and beer, and entice the audience thither. But they both know it would be a sad empty shell of a place inhabited by those 2 windbags.

After concluding the same thing, I scrolled through the whole thing out of a sick sense of curiosity just to see how long it ended up being. IIt must have taken me 30 seconds just to use my touchpad to scroll to the bottom (including the pages of footnotes). These people are beyond parody.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Holy fuck I was reading it for a while thinking "this is a really long post that I'm wasting my time and sanity reading and it's really getting unnecessary how long it is" only to look and see I was like 1/10th of the way through.

[–] blakestacey@awful.systems 5 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

And now there are 59 comments, too.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

That doesn't shock me. LWers are exactly the type to spend the entirety of their free time for a day interacting with a single blog post

[–] gerikson@awful.systems 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

check out this beaut it has subsections and a folded "spoiler" section https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/HaH9mTdKt8pcNAtYn/comment-on-banning-said-achmiz?commentId=kEsLavWGNtkrqaAY2

don't recognize commenter but they seem to be a big cheese in the rat sphere

Occasionally it strikes me as a little odd when Said asks about some detail that I think he should have been able to fill in by himself, but it's no trouble: if I can spare the time (and it's worth it), I'm usually happy to type up the requested additional explanation.

is there anything you do except type?
