Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

The way the article is worded it makes it seem like ALL psych medicine is bad, which is the mo of the right, get people off the meds that make them stable and into RFK Jr's "wellness farms".

You can't just say "yeah I fucked up taking benzos recreationally for years and now I'm paying the price".

The problem is that his room isn't clean. If he cleaned his room everything else would fall onto place including his health. His current state is his body rejecting the conditions it survives in.

That and eating nothing but the day old Wendy's hamburger patties they deemed too gross to throw in the chilli

[–] GayTuckerCarlson@hexbear.net 28 points 1 day ago

Sadly, this means we will never see his 'falls in love with AI' arc

Nothing about the all meat diet or medically induced coma to attempt to skip benzo withdrawals huh

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 39 points 1 day ago

Nope, gotta blame the untermensch medication instead of owning up to being a dipshit who fucked up.

So much for personal responsibility!

"I ate like shit and took 0 care of my health for years and then I go to the doctor who gives me medication, and now I'm in a lot more pain? Clearly the doctor's medication is the thing doing this to me!"

[–] ChaosMaterialist@hexbear.net 51 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Dr. Peterson has a well-documented history of medical struggles tied to his use of benzodiazepine medication.

“There are many testimonials written by people who have suffered from psych medication damage,” she told the Post. “The medical industry will have to face this evidence and take steps to protect the public from harm.”

Every single Psychologist will warn you about Benzos, will recommend against them, and even when they do prescribe them there is an entire plan to prevent this exact issue.

But this bozo did benzos recreationally... peterson-pain

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 41 points 1 day ago (1 children)

look these drugs might be addictive and physically and psychologically harmful and restricted for good reason but have you considered i might simply be built different? thought so

Only a psychiatrist can prescribe a pharmaceutical, not a psychologist, unless something changed since the last time I was in a psychologist's office.

Wait a second HIS WIFE IS ALIVE?!?!?! I thought he got on the benzos because she died. But it was just the diagnosis that sent him spiraling? lmao. Did have any hardships in his life? Also, was he ever on SSRIs? Because I think that would be the first medication for an otherwise healthy person that's not adjusting well to a life event like that. Maybe he was scared of ssris and only trusts medicine if it was available in the 70s.

[–] Pentacat@hexbear.net 30 points 1 day ago (3 children)

He got on benzos because she had cancer and that was taking attention away from him.

The crank right thinks ssris are what make people snap and go on murder sprees, no joke.

Reincarnated In Another Realm Where The Post Modern Chaos Dragon of Cultural Marxism Rules (Still Suffering From Benzos Withdrawal)

[–] immuredanchorite@hexbear.net 33 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If I recall, the symptom she claimed he was suffering from (iirc akathesia) can happen from acute benzo withdrawals… which is what almost killed him when he went cold-turkey off of benzos because of him and his daughters disgust at the idea of taking more benzos to safely wean off of them

[–] Runcible@hexbear.net 32 points 1 day ago (1 children)

critical support to Peterson's daughter for trying to kill him

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 21 points 1 day ago (2 children)

These chuds are so clueless they probably thought weaning off the drugs is woke and what weak men do, or something

BTW Peterson wrote his PhD about alcoholism. Alcohol works on the same receptors as benzos and has the same problems in withdrawal. And he still decided he should be put in an artificial coma after having just recovered from pneumonia and withdraw benzos cold turkey. Absolute quack.

He thought he was numbing the pain all those years but he was just delaying the inevitable and now he gets to feel all of it at once

Good I'm glad to hear it. I want bad people to suffer. I am not the platonic ideal of a Buddhist monk. I think pain and suffering should come to those who put it on the innocent. I think it also has an effect as a deterrent in certain cases - like the amount of ghouls that grew a conscience out of fear of getting louigied.

I am still of the opinion that Peterson is on some modern Kierkegaardian Knight of Faith journey. Verily, what Peterson must discover is that it is a leap INTO faith and the only way out is through. That is right. Peterson must crawl INTO the anus of the chaos dragon and emerge from its gullet as a glorious rebirth. I believe in you, Dr. Peterson.
