My sister had to come out to my parents for like the sixth time. They just pretend they don't hear it. So operation Not-Subtle Propaganda commences. I was visiting for the long weekend and put on movies with LGBT characters to get them desensitized (sensitized?) to the idea of gay people existing.

Ok, so maybe Forbidden Fruits wasn't one to include in this first wave. TBF, I don't think either parent clocked the gayness. They are so stubbornly blind to it.

Now accepting suggestions for next visit I take in ~June or July. They are Hallmark movie people so it can't be too outrageous, FF was really pushing it even without The Gay Agenda™.

there's a movie by and with Elliot Page that has the exact scenario of a trans man visiting his family as main plot ^^

there is also "Pride" - which shows queer characters from ehrm, 70ties? and shows iirc working class people forming the very first pride in their working class town

both movies show emotions and queer issues as part of the main plot but have a storyline to follow that is - in theory - part of almost every humans lifetime experiences (coming home as a changed person/trying to change society)

If you can stomach some Xmas in July, and if it's available somewhere, then Under the Christmas Tree Imagine Me & You is rated R but I'm not even sure why, so I add that to the suggestion. D.E.B.S - It's a classic and if they like spy spoof films then it's a slam dunk. But I'm a Cheerleader - TW: conversion therapy. It's another classic. Devil Wears Prada 2. It was very earnest, and you could tell they were working hard to clean up a bunch of messes left over from the first one, but I really enjoyed it and I think it's worth going out and seeing.

Several kids movies this week but all were pretty great:

Isle of Dogs 4/5 - Great Wes Anderson claymation. Making the Japanese unsubtitled is a really creative choice and I like what it does to the story

Top Gun 4.5/5 - I got to see this in 4DX and it is by far the best 4DX movie I've ever seen. It's a great way to experience the movie if you have the opportunity

The Sheep Detectives 4/5 - I wanted to be really cynical about this and I thought it'd be really bad based off the repeated viewing of the trailer. However I have to admit it's very competently put together, it really maximizes the premise to hit some emotional high points, and is better than you'd think. Although it's pretty clear they only had Hugh Jackman for 2 days

The Secret World of Arrietty 4.5/5 - My favorite Ghibli movie. I love the aesthetic, the melancholy ending, the lush animation, it's just a wonderful movie all around

Finished the Mystery in Paris movie anthology, final ranking from best to worst:

Mystery at the Eiffel Tower
Mystery at the Moulin Rouge
Mystery at the Place Vendome
Mystery at the Elysee Palace
Mystery at the Louvre Museum
Mystery at the Sorbonne
Mystery at the Opera - this is the only one I wouldn't recommend
