Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

"They are coming for abortion rights!" -the left. "Were coming for your abortion rights!" - the gop

"Stop over reacting!" - Centrists

[–] santa@sh.itjust.works 10 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

“We will leave it up to the States” - GOP (Lindsey and the Bunch)

ME: Yeah, right. Ffs

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

That was such total horseshit and they always knew it. And we knew it, too.

No way those little weasels would tolerate women leaving to go to a free country or a free state to get health care they don't approve of, either. That's assuming they could even afford to.

Otherwise, why even go through this bullshit of banning it in just certain states?

All conservatives truly HATE and despise and loathe actual freedom.

[–] the_tab_key@lemmy.world 3 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (1 children)

They don't hate actual freedom, they just want the freedom to control others' freedom and not vice versa, you know, like slaves.

There used to be an article I'd link to that had a very long dissertation on the notion of Southern "liberty" vs. the Northern kind. Basically, the Southern kind of "liberty" considers things like property rights (and treating other people like property) of utmost concern, so much like what you are getting at here: the idea that others might have agency even if you don't like what they are doing is not something they value, at all.

BTW, it's very interesting to see how you'll see this manifest. The right went on and on and on about "cities burned to the ground" and the damage to businesses as a supposed counter to what BLM was protesting, which was the murder of people. I don't think they even realized what they were revealing about themselves.

I recently read The Unhumans, and IIRC, they made a big deal about how "liberals are coming to take your stuff", too. Very instructive.

That last comment came from the reactionary centrists and the gaslighting overtly right wing as well.

By the way, the very same fucking people that serve as the exasperating Tone Police on this are the same ones doing the same thing when it comes to properly calling the J6 people terrorists (and not "rioters" or "peaceful protesters", FFS) and calling the Republican project what it is: fascism.

I don't think it's possible to be centrist on an issue such as Abortion

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

In practice, yes. But then there are bozos like this.

https://centristdaily.com/abortion/

Who regurgitate right wing talking points.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago

It's very possible to be a reactionary centrist on virtually every issue and we have that in droves.

Reactionary centrists are generally dipshits and/or just conservatives that like to gaslight and not admit they are conservatives. Of course the conservative media, aka, "the liberal media" is chock full of these types.

Looks like the headline is now 180° opposite from where you started:

"Supreme Court rules abortion pills can continue to be mailed"

Please make it match or else we'll have to remove it.

[–] homes@piefed.world 4 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Headline still not updated

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Only been 5 hours since my post, I try to give a minimum of 8 so people can, like, sleep and work and stuff. 😉

[–] homes@piefed.world 2 points 14 hours ago

Well, they fixed it about an hour after I mentioned it, so it’s all good anyway.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 22 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

UPDATE: it appears that the SC has moved to preserve access to mifepristone after letting the ban take effect for a short time while allowing Louisiana to continue to appeal the decision.

[–] GreyYeti@lemmy.world 11 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Don’t upvote this. The opposite of this headline is true.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 11 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

The ban was allowed to take effect for a short while which is when I originally posted. There’s an update in the notes and in the linked article.

[–] GreyYeti@lemmy.world 5 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Understood, and than you for posting. But now it just serves as misinformation to people scrolling through their feed. Upvoting would only contribute to people being confused.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 8 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

Alito’s dissent is interesting to note:

“Applicants are not entitled to a stay of an adverse court order based on lost profits from their criminal enterprise. They cannot, in any legally relevant sense, be irreparably harmed by a court order that makes it more difficult for them to commit crimes,”

Calling a pharmaceutical company a criminal enterprise and suggesting all abortions are illegal conduct sure is something from him.

[–] Makeitstop@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

"They cannot, in any legally relevant sense, be irreparably harmed by a court order that makes it more difficult for them to commit crimes,”

Unless of course it's the Trump administration committing the crimes. Then even slowing them down and maintaining the original status quo while the courts adjudicate the case is causing irreparable harm.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago

Yeah. They are about a year and a half behind all of the crimes that PEDOnald has been up to, and that's his second term.

Forget about all the allegations of sexual assault as well as the conviction of rape and stealing classified documents and stoking an insurrection of terrorists, and plotting a coup and fucking with election results, and and and...

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago

That's Trollito for ya. That guy is one angry motherfucker and is quite determined to roll back virtually all progress.

[–] GlendatheGayWitch@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago

How do you see the notes? I just see the headline as the post title. I might be missing a lemmy feature

[–] switcheroo@lemmy.world 3 points 20 hours ago

The fucking government needs to stay the fuck out of our every day lives. This is none of their business.

Fuck the Pedo Party fascists

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Wait. I thought I just read a few minutes ago that they voted to allow it to be mailed?

[–] circuitfarmer@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

See other comments. Headline is no longer accurate.

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago
[–] MagicianWithABadPlan@lemmy.world 0 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

The headline is 100% incorrect no the ban is NOT taking effect.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 2 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Oh Jesus Christ, read the notes AND I put Updated in the title.

It DID take effect for a short while.

[–] phailhaus@piefed.social 1 points 18 hours ago

Updated means you changed the title and it said something else before. Given that the reporting everyone is seeing states the opposite of your title, adding UPDATED to it implies that this is newer information, reversing the previous reporting that it was allowed.

You've made the incorrect-title problem worse.
