The city clerk's office should have all the options if you swing by.

[–] HuntressHimbo@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago

My polling place also didn't have one. Felt so cheated lmao

There are two wolves inside you. One of them wants you to vote, the other doesn't want you to vote.

Wait, the population of Ulster County is only 183,000! STOP THE COUNT! RIGGED ELECTION! DEAD PEOPLE ARE VOTING! /s

[–] MacNCheezus@lemmy.today 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I thought you were joking but that’s actually true. No census has ever placed the population of Ulster County above 183,300, according to Wikipedia.

Nobody said the contest voters had to be registered voters in that county. I'm guessing fellow students and families voted, too.

I'm willing to bet, as usual, it got posted on 4Chan or Reddit or something, and trolls from other places voted on it. I find it highly unlikely that even half of the residents voted on this.

Democracy is amazing when it’s something mundane like naming boats and deciding on stickers.

[–] VolumetricShitCompressor@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 2 months ago (2 children)

But did they follow through with the stickers?

[–] brandon@piefed.social 33 points 2 months ago

As a former resident of the area, yes, they absolutely did. And they were glorious.

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 21 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This shows that if there's actually a cool option, people will overwhelmingly vote for it. Hence why we have two parties competing to pick the lamest lame-os imaginable for us to choose between.

why they're scared of Zohran Mamdani

[–] Saapas@piefed.zip 17 points 2 months ago

That'd get me to definitely vote if I was hesitant. That's metal as fuck

[–] lost_faith@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 months ago

I remember this little abomination lol

[–] pomegranatefern@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I laugh at this as though, if it were a thing I could vote on for my own municipality, I would do anything but vote for it and enthusiastically wear it.

"But consider how funny it would be" is a major bug in democracy and I demand a patch.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

I remember a talkshow host (don't remember which one) making a joke that we should be able to vote for a president and a "mascot" every election so that people could take the presidency seriously and still get a silly vote out of their system. Like, one to make boring decisions and the other to prance around with a flag and yell about stuff.

Maybe that's the patch for this type of thing.

[–] pomegranatefern@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

I would unironically support this.
