Surprised anything by Supergiant Games isn't mentioned here, their soundtracks rock! Bastion and Hades really come to mind.

Bro you like Super Monkey Ball? I knew I liked you man, bring it in

[–] dingus182@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

Nine Inch Nails did the soundtrack to Quake... And I still have that in my music collection

[–] jtrek@startrek.website 1 points 46 minutes ago

I remember in high school I was starting to get into music. "Classic rock" from my parents, metal from my cousins, pop punk from other places. Nothing too esoteric. When I was talking about music one day, one of my friends was like "You wanna see my music collection??" I went sure, and he opened it up. All video game soundtracks. Final Fantasy, mostly.

I'm sorry to say that was a young teenager I was a shit and made fun. I wouldn't do that now, but I still feel a little bad about it. I very rarely would pick a video game soundtrack to listen to, but it's such a harmless joy I should've been nicer.

Oblivion

Skyrim

Minecraft is chef's kiss.

I listen to the Disco Elysium soundtrack by Sea Power consistently. It's such a great album in its own right.

[–] 1hitsong@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 hour ago

Yeah I do 🤘

Chris Vrenna of Nine Inch Nails did the soundtrack for American McGee's Alice, and it is amazing!

It's my focus music.

[–] Carrot@lemmy.today 1 points 1 hour ago

Almost the entirety of my physical music collection is game soundtracks. I like to put them on while working or doing chores. It's more relaxing than regular music for me.

Been hooked on God of War Ragnarok soundtrack since I finished the DLC a week ago, it’s amazing

[–] QuantumStorm@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

Warframe and Atomic Heart both have killer sound tracks!

[–] Thteven@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago

The Bloodborne OST is a masterpiece.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Its not that different from movie sound tracks.

[–] __Lost__@lemmy.dbzer0.com -1 points 1 hour ago

And I've always thought listening to movie soundtracks is weird too.

Some of y'all have never played any GOOD EA games, and it shows.

[–] JordanZ@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

EA owns it now but that was a Westwood Studios game. Then EA proceeded to ruin the entire franchise.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

I couldn't remember who owned it when it came out..... Now I'm questioning if the Need for Speed franchise was made by EA or slowly ruined by them.....

Ice cold take.

Portal 2 OST is a banger.

You kids these days with your video game music! ...You're alright.

[my zoomer sons have gotten me addicted some of the game music the good folks mention here.]

[–] Thorry@feddit.org 1 points 6 hours ago

Check out the Loop Hero soundtrack, it's such a banger

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

FZero GX and Cel Damage soundtracks are way better than they have any right to be.

Half my entire saved music collection is video game music.

Straftat has some really good ambient jungle as soundtrack. Actually just bought it today on bandcamp lol

Also the doom (2016) soundtrack is just exceptional

[–] Million@lemmy.zip 5 points 10 hours ago

Hotline Miami is a banger

[–] DoucheBagMcSwag@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

Nier Automata still is in my rotation.

Nothing like having an existential crisis when "City Ruins" or

Tap for spoilerWeight of the World

comes on while I'm on my way to work

[–] Console_Modder@sh.itjust.works 3 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I recently just played Demon Tides and the soundtrack was made by 2 Mello. Good game and good music

[–] zer0hour@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

2 Mello is so good. I go through their whole discog once in a while and struggle to find a track that isn't excellent

[–] olafurp@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

Ever since I played Chrono Trigger I've had Peaceful days as my ringtone. https://youtu.be/wYp_UsDzgxM still like the song.

Bro is missing out.

FTL: Faster Than Light

Sanctum

Bastion

Age of Empires II

Core Keeper

Sonic CD

Clair Obscur

Screamer

All fantastic soundtracks

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 5 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (1 children)

Clair Obscure's music is so good, almost every single one with lyrics is in my normal everyday playlist. Most VG music doesn't get that honor and stays in their own specific playlist. Having lyrics is a big plus for me.

[–] purplemonkeymad@programming.dev 1 points 5 hours ago

Transistor's main character is a singer and the soundtrack is basically meant to be her songs. There are several with lyrics too that really are just songs and not backgrounds to the game.

I don't see Chrono Cross mentionned, best one IMO.

[–] Bbbbbbbbbbb@lemmy.world 16 points 15 hours ago

Nier and Clair Obscur have fantastic soundtracks

I have a playlist of video game soundtracks playing quietly 24-7. It keeps my cats company when I'm gone and it's nice to have some background noise when I'm home. It's all music I own and there's over a thousand songs in there.
