Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

The Onion should use Infowars to teach the Constitution.

[–] yenahmik@lemmy.world 149 points 2 days ago (6 children)

14 years...that's how long it took for him to see the consequences of his actions. Unacceptable.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

he had a boost during covid, when MTG was harrasing the survivors too for a short time.

[–] SchwertImStein@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 19 hours ago

fucking wizards of the coast man \s

[–] Blibly@lemmy.world 70 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And we all know unless he goes to jail for his debts he won't pay anything to anyone.

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 52 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Jailing people for debt is a terrible idea. Just garnish his pay and seize his assets.

[–] DiarrheaSommelier@lemmy.ca 47 points 2 days ago (2 children)

He's hiding his assets in plain sight and the courts are letting him get away with it.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Then he should be jailed for the act of hiding them, not for the debt itself

[–] DiarrheaSommelier@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

And everyone who helped him hide them too. His dad "owns" tons of his assets.

[–] Brummbaer@pawb.social 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, that is not the end of him nor his money.

They just let him put everything into his new business and I would not be shocked if he will see some of the money the onion has to pay for infowars now.

The rich have class consciousness, the poor don't.

I think this already been done.. hence The Onion taking over infowars.com.. or.. is that on hold?

Not sure..

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 24 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The problem is that he hid most of his assets and is trying to pretend to the court that he is broke

[–] ByteJunk@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Ah, but that's jail time if they prove it.

[–] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 7 points 2 days ago

Oh, sorry no. Your are in the bad american timeline.

[–] SaraTonin@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

He hasn’t seen consequences. A ruling against you means nothing if it’s not enforced. And there have been no legal consequences either for the blatantly highly illegal stuff that was found when he accidentally cloned his phone and handed it over to the prosecution

[–] frizop@lemmy.world 32 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's been 14 years since sandy hook happened?!

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 23 hours ago

enough time for david hogg one of the survivors to get into the DNC temporarily.

[–] yenahmik@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

I had to Google it, and if you want to be pedantic, it was technically 13 years and 5 months ago. Definitely horrific it's been so long either way.

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 11 points 2 days ago

And he's still sticking to his shit conspiracy about it.

[–] Kirk@startrek.website 29 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It's absolutely crazy the gymnastics the judicial system is making to keep Jones on the air and prevent the families of the Sandy Hook victims from seeing restitution.

This shutdown was Jones's decision not the courts or The Onion:

A judge granted Jones’ request to block the sale, arguing that another offer by a company that happened to operate Jones’ online supplements store had been higher. But in April, there seemed to be a workaround — Jones’ estate had run out of money and instead of buying it in an auction, The Onion could just pay rent in a licensing deal. On Wednesday, a Texas appeals court stopped the transfer again, temporarily blocking the asset handover.

And so it seems Jones, unable to pay the rent, left on his own accord.

like other Manosphere grifters, hes important for bringing young men into conservative/conspiracy influence. thats why musk was funding him.

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The Knowledge Fight guys said he already redirected his audience to buy his snake oil on another site anyway. He doesn't need IW anymore to continue his grift.

[–] HasturInYellow@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

How does a man who owes a BILLION DOLLARS IN DAMAGES stil own ANYTHING?? there is no justice to be had in our system. Anything that looks like it is purely coincidence.

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Always remember the justice system will protect a certain class of people.

It’s a big club and we ain’t in it.

[–] Kirk@startrek.website 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"The Jury voted against Jones, therefore it means he gets to keep InfoWars and also not pay them." is wild.

It's not like it's a secret of Alex Jonesy is doing. We all know that he's transferring assets and still maintaining control over the assests.

The Courts are like "I dunno man. If we start cracking down on this balant actions. The rich might have to be held accountable."

[–] Kirk@startrek.website 3 points 1 day ago

That's honestly beside the point. This case wasn't about his "grift" it was about harassment of the Sandy Hook families, who have not seen a penny from Jones yet, despite winning the case two years ago. The judge tried to come up with convoluted logic to make sure Jones retains control of IW despite, again, losing the case the judge presided over. It's insanity.

What bridge does he live under? Because he doesn't live in a house, right? Because if he lives in a house, then confiscate it, sell it, and give the money to his victims. Then he can go live under a bridge.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

remember he had wagner recruitment advertisements on his show.

[–] Cellari@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I can't even remember all the things he's done anymore. It's been too long.

[–] j_elgato@leminal.space 46 points 2 days ago

All hail the Onion!

[–] Steve@communick.news 37 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Monday -
Alex Jones: It's a lie! I'm still in control of the studio!

Friday -
Studio locked. Lights out. Alex isn't in control anymore.

[–] BeanGoblin@lemmy.blahaj.zone 35 points 2 days ago (3 children)

He's not going anywhere. He stalled the process for so long he already moved a lot of his money and audience to a different platform he doesn't own.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 23 hours ago

he gave it to friends and families and llc, dont know if he hid them international banks, but the family will take forever to get any significant money back.

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 24 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Loosing the brand is a big deal. But not as big of a deal as being de-platformed. Alex's troupe is a ghost compared to what Info Wars was in 2015.

What Alex has accomplished is dragging this out until a time when right-wing media is in decline nationally. Yea, Alex is still around, the same way Blockbuster has a store or two.

[–] Bahnd@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

One store, the one in Anchorage closed a while ago. The shop in Bend, OR is the last blockbuster.

Dude looks like he's trying passing a kidney stone.

[–] captain_oni@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 2 days ago (2 children)

With all the shit he puts in his body, they're probably more stone than kidneys at this point

Suck it Jones

[–] sommerset@thelemmy.club 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

So what's his next site?
Is prison planet still his?

Another comment also answered, but he has moved to "The Alex Jones Network" owned by Bigly. It's a bullshit move that pulled a lot of assets out of the bankruptcy.
