This is one of my favorite musical and creative genres across my life, but I'm having trouble finding an example across the FV that I can access. Anybody know if there is such a community?

To ramble on-- it just crushes me that SO much friggen' awesome & original song content appears across these two major niches, yet on radio and everywhere (it seems to me) we just hear the same old dumbed-down, formulaic bullshit. Me? Even as a cynical old man, I have absolute love for young peoples' creativity upon such things. And there really ARE such crushingly fun / excellent tunes out there to enjoy. Couple examples:

John Cale - How We See The Light:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiQ9Xt9hU3c

Tessa Violet - Nancy Sinatra:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQyFFTh_YGc

Vendredi sur Mer (Charline Mignot) - Écoute chérie:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhqUMFj51X0

To me, these are brilliant, young* creators absolutely kicking booty, and yet we barely hear of them. Why is that...?

* Haha, John, you're still young to ME!

EDIT : Ehhh... couple more I'll post in the comments. What think, amigos..?

Just in case others run into the issue maybe someone has a solution, that last one opens a browser webpage for me in Boost, I can't figure out how to actually get it I to open in the application so I can join it haha.

Got the first two though, thanks! :-D

lemmy.cafe/c/indieheads

Try that, no https:// piefed.social prepends it when it's a link. Might not be properly federated or their instance is using a crosspost plugin.

[–] Sergio@piefed.social 4 points 2 weeks ago

you can also type it like this in most lemmy/piefed clients and it'll "work":

!IndepthIndie@lemmy.world

!alternativenation@lemmy.world

!indieheads@lemmy.cafe

@obinice@lemmy.world @icedraktajino@startrek.website @JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social

https://theindiebeat.fm/ and https://tv.theindiebeat.fm/ are fedi and powered by Bandwagon https://bandwagon.fm/ .

Might bot be exactly what you're looking for, but all are heavily invested in helping indie musicians in the Fediverse.

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 1 points 3 weeks ago

Thanks, Darth... Rick Moranis, or whatever the heck your official name was in Space Balls?

So... those links... would they be some webplayer stuff, or activated links I could throw in to mon ancien WinAmp player?

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Ohhh man! I just love John Cale..

Thank for the reminder, it's been a while since I pulled up any of his work. Have you listened to the album he did with Brian Eno - Wrong Way Up?

It's one of my faves.

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Ah, which one was that? To me, they're both madmen in the most delightful way (lol), but some of their stuff is just... is just... no thank you?

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

Released in 1990. Solid LP, actually quite accessible if am gonna be honest about it. There was a reissue some years back with two extra songs which were rather weak and listening to them, I understand why they didn't make the cut when the album first came out.

Here's a youtube link to the original.

Lay My Love is pretty salient today. Pure poetry.

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Thank you for taking the time. <3

As I write this, I'm somehow listening to and loving Paul's McCartney's "Ram On"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrZDCpyTGpY
(possibibbles a bit of irony there?)

Oh, but if you mean this one, maybe?

Lay My Love :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QI560hZP2zI

Oh shit, that's one of those songs that lays excellent groundwork, and yet never actually goes anywhere. The Human League's "Mirror Man" is another classic example..!

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh my.. Human League. You're dragging me back to my late teens now. Yaah, wasn't a big fan of this band. Seemed a bit whiffy and it was all whiff for a lot of the bands on the charts then so they were extra whiff. LOL!

I got hooked on the grittier New York scene - Blondie, The Ramones, Jim Carroll Band, Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, The Nails.. Still have much of it on vinyl.

Geez, I gotta do something with it at some point.

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 1 points 3 weeks ago

Oh, man-- how about some Karaoke, mein Freund!
It is so much fun! <3

[–] GrantUsEyes@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Just remembered this song today

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 1 points 3 weeks ago

I had not the slightest idea what the hell to do about all this. I mean-- I love playing around and being silly to death, but... haha, nice~~

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Haha, YUP.
And please forgive me for saying what I'm about to say...

Ehhhh... haha, I guess I won't go there. Good luck with your own shizzle, mate. 🙂

[–] in_my_honest_opinion@piefed.social -1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

We're all ageless strangers here, say what you like.

That being said, please either create a comm or post to one of the ones that's closest to your tastes, you're dropping bangers in this thread.

Dude? Maybe just SFTU?

I've been running one /c across the FV for coming up on 3yrs now, and helping on others across as an extra, across that time.

Please do fuck off, idiot, with your condescending, clueless level of bullshit, eh..?

[–] in_my_honest_opinion@piefed.social 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Doesn't know how to use the search function, gets defensive when given suggestions. Simply the perfect mod.

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Haha, and projection is a thing?

Go ahead, mate-- what's your community, and how might I add to it, eh?

You're really not all that happy these days are you. Thanks for being the perfect filter.

[–] _haha_oh_wow_@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

IDK but if you don't find one on either, check Mbin too.

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Sorry for the late reply, but AFAIK Mbin doesn't federate to PieFed. Does it do so for Lemmy?

[–] _haha_oh_wow_@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Mbin most definitely federates to Lemmy but I am surprised to hear it can't federate to PieFed: Are you sure that's true?

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No, I'm not.
Can you give me an example of an Mbin community and instance? I can try to hit them from here and see if that works.

Mbin content certainly doesn't seem to appear in my ALL feed, for what that's worth.

[–] _haha_oh_wow_@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Fedia.io and Kbin.Earth are probably the two biggest

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I can indeed do a community search upon both those instances, but the results seem depressed and incomplete. For example, with Fedia.io, the top three /c's with the most active people listed are:

-News from fediverse@fedia.io / 118
-B-side Gaming@fedia.io / 54
-Firefox@fedia.io / 17

And the pickings drop pretty quickly from there. That's out of a few dozen communities (or is it "magazines?") that show up in such a search.

Meanwhile, a Kbin.Earth search returns a paltry dozen places, almost all of them stone-dead. So... something is clearly not working in the federation process, is it?

[–] _haha_oh_wow_@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

That or people just use Mbin to browse other platforms like Lemmy, but not to host magazines (communities in Lemmy parlance). I mod with someone who is on an Mbin platform but the community they created and mod is on Lemmy.

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago

I don't know, maybe those two instances show up sometimes in my ALL feed, and I just didn't realise it. I'll have to pay closer attention in future...

Then again, those searches I did above simply can't be complete if those are truly the two biggest Mbin instances.

FWIW, I threw this one out to GPT 5.4, and:
