Not terribly much has happened in the last week. The main two developments is the very much expected resumption of fire in Lebanon as the ZIonists are famously agreement-incapable, and the continuing supply of equipment to the Middle East, including the George H.W. Bush aircraft carrier. This means there are now three aircraft carriers in the general vicinity, and while I'm uncertain how much of a role the burnt-out Ford and the increasingly exhausted Lincoln will ultimately play (they were rather ineffective during the first round), there are also a good ~20 destroyers and however many submarines that are carrying their own munitions. I have a couple more paragraphs of exposition below, but it's unlikely to be major news to anybody here, so I've spoilered it.

spoiler

On the one hand, it feels like a resumption of the war for the US at this point would be complete madness. We are getting article after article from even the Western media admitting to US standoff+interceptor missile shortages, as well as detailing the extensive damage to US bases. The Zionists are also getting ever more mired in Lebanon, with Hezbollah's unjammable fibre optic drones playing an ever more prominent role in causing substantial long range damage to invading forces. On the other hand, it is very unlikely that most of the US's remaining firepower is being brought to the region on a mere bluff. For its part, Iran and their allies seem to have their finger on the trigger, with their own extensive repairs, upgrades, resupplies, and adjustments having been made for round two.

Assessing the overall global economic situation is difficult, not least because of a degree of financial manipulation that is almost admirable in its sheer scale and recklessness - to quote Ghalibaf: "Their frontline is the yield curve." Multiple countries are now facing real and desperate shortages, including major economies like Japan. Diesel prices continue their record rises, and reports about the potential impacts to all sectors of the global economy are streaming in, with famines around the world now very likely. While the US is profiting from the rise in oil prices, it seems like it will be unable to meaningfully increase production for at least a year or two, and so the US will certainly not be replacing the massive oil barrel deficit to create an energy hegemony, as some have suggested. In contrary: this is the best opportunity in a generation for China, Russia, and Iran to collectively make economic decisions that could cripple entire pillars of American hegemony. However, if the response is lacking - and we've all seen before over the last four years how China's responses to crises have been on the lacking side - we could see a (albeit temporary) strengthening of the US's financial power, as this global crisis will almost certainly result in debt climbing even higher as Western financial institutions grant loans en masse to struggling countries in the developing world. It's very uncertain times.

Salvador Nasrallah, the liberal who bootlicked the U.S. and Israel because he believed he had won the election by thowing the socialists under the bus, and who, when the U.S. committed election fraud to elect a candidate backed by drug cartels, repeatedly whined and begged Trump and Bukele to take his side and not that of the drug cartels, has only just realized that the U.S. is against him and will not help him.

He is currently posting about the leaked audio recordings between the CIA and the drug cartels in Honduras, in which they discuss how they intended to use the army to rig the elections, and how they wanted to use Honduras and Argentina as testing grounds to see how they would attack Mexico and Colombia.

Hondurasgate: Leaked Audios Reveal Trump-Backed Plot Targeting Petro, Sheinbaum, and Latin American Left - El Ciudadano

A recent leak has brought to light the existence of a political and media cell associated with Trumpism, funded by Honduran government structures, aimed at destabilizing both Gustavo Petro’s administration in Colombia and Claudia Sheinbaum’s in Mexico, as well as the Latin American left.

A collection of audios obtained by Diario Red revealed discussions between former Honduran president Juan Orlando Hernández—who was convicted of drug trafficking in the United States and later pardoned by the Donald Trump administration—and the current president of the Central American nation, Nasry Asfura, along with his vice president, María Antonieta Mejía.

The recordings detail the formation of a communication team funded with Honduran public resources and contributions from the government of Argentine president Javier Milei, totaling over half a million dollars. The objective is to “strike media blows” against the progressive leaders in the region.

The geopolitical context, characterized by the competition between China and the United States over critical minerals and supply chains, helps explain why Washington resorts to local operators like Hernández to hinder the advance of the Latin American left.

In one of the most revealing audios, dated January 30, 2026, Hernández instructs Asfura from the United States: “I need you to send about 150 thousand dollars to Rosales’ account […] because here we are going to rent an apartment and set up an office for a digital journalism unit. Someone else from here will handle it, from the team of the President of the United States. Well, he is from the Republicans who are helping us. They are going to set up a news site where important information about Manuel Zelaya and Xiomara Castro will be released.”

Asfura responds by offering additional transfers from “a friend’s” account, including resources from the Social Security Institute (INSEP). According to the conversations, the operation included a call between Hernández and Milei, who allegedly committed 350 thousand dollars to execute the destabilizing actions.

The dialogue reveals that Hernández informs Asfura the news site would operate as an informative cell based in the United States to avoid being tracked in Honduras. The aim is not only to attack Xiomara Castro’s government but also to prepare “files” against Mexico (Sheinbaum) and Colombia (Petro).

“Files against Mexico are coming, files against Colombia, and most importantly against Honduras, specifically against the Zelaya family,” states the former Honduran president in the recording.

In another call with Vice President Mejía, Hernández reiterates the need for liquidity to set up an office with support from political actors of the Republican Party in the United States, aiming to “attack and eradicate the cancer of the left” throughout Latin America. Mejía, who requests “details to be omitted” to leave no traces, confirms the management of 300 thousand dollars.

“I will handle all the arrangements, so 300 thousand dollars,” she indicates in the audio.

Beyond the media war, this leak reveals an ambitious plan for territorial reconversion of Honduras into a strategic enclave for the United States. The agreements include the expansion of Employment and Economic Development Zones (ZEDES), the construction of a new military base in Roatan, similar to Soto Cano Air Base (Palmerola)—operated by Southern Command since 1982—and a Center for the Confinement of Terrorism (CECOT) in Tegucigalpa, emulating the repressive Salvadoran model.

In a voice note from February 10, 2026, Asfura informs Hernández that a group of investors has already greenlit these projects, including a transoceanic train to be awarded to General Electric, deliberately excluding Canada and China. “The Chinese were bidding. But we are not going to give in,” he asserts.

Violence as a tool of control is mentioned unequivocally. In a message directed to Tomás Zambrano, president of the Honduran National Congress, Hernández conveys a directive attributed to U.S. President Donald Trump: “In Honduras, strength is needed, logistics are needed, blood is needed. If you want to keep people controlled, you need to oppress them. Squeeze them. Counter violence by generating violence. It’s what President Trump says.”

Hernández even references the infamous Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar: “Don’t be so soft […] So said Pablo Escobar.”

Meanwhile, Romeo Vásquez Velásquez—who led the 2009 coup against former Honduran president Manuel Zelaya—appears to be coordinating with the Armed Forces “to start the hunt.”

Another pillar of the strategy is the cultural battle waged from evangelical churches. According to the audios revealed by Diario Red, Hernández instructs Zambrano to align all religious congregations so that “people forget the past. And that they think it was the left who did that.”

“In Honduras, evangelicals have already mobilized their parishioners in massive marches against Xiomara Castro’s government, such as the one summoned in August 2025 under the slogan ‘for peace and in defense of democracy’ in coordination with the Honduran Council of Private Enterprise,” the reported source notes.

This web of activities—which combines lawfare, military control of resources, violence, and religious manipulation—confirms that under Nasry Asfura’s government, Honduras has become a pawn on the chessboard for Donald Trump and his interest in regaining the hegemony lost by Washington in the Latin American region due to the defense of sovereignty undertaken by progressive governments.

As embarrassing as those videos of the US setting up the Ukraine coup government.

Liberals will still deny the US does anything wrong and this is all just communist fever dream.

Ignore what Trump says.

We can logically conclude that the US took about 5000 casualties (wounded, dead, ptsd) over the last year between the 12 day war and Ramadan war.

Edit: this 5000 would also include the soldiers whose bases in the Gulf were entirely destroyed so they have to end send them back to the US.

The so-called antisemitism commissioner of Brandenburg had his shed firebombed (complete with red triangle and public letter) by ... drumroll please ... two 25 year old friends / business partners of his. He denies any involvement or knowledge himself.

According to this newspaper’s investigation, there is no evidence of tension or discord between the two men and Büttner, who are said to have a friendly relationship. They are also said to have met after the arson attack, in Potsdam and Berlin. In early February—just one month after the arson attack—they are said to have attended a performance at the Leipzig Opera together.

The message of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Sayyid Mojtaba Khamenei, on the occasion of Workers' Day and Teachers' Day:

Published on official telegram @MKhamenei_en

spoiler

📝 The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Sayyid Mojtaba Khamenei, issued a message on the occasion of Workers' Day and Teachers' Day on May 1, 2026. The full text of his message is as follows:

🗒 In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful

✍ The 11th and 12th of Ordibehesht [April 30 & May 1] are days dedicated to honoring the dignity of workers and the lofty status of teachers. In addition to verbal, symbolic praise, which is appropriate and proper, the progress of any country depends on two essential wings: knowledge and action.

👨‍🏫 Teachers play a pivotal role in the first stage of realizing this goal. The heavy responsibility of imparting knowledge, developing skills, much of fostering insight, and shaping the character and identity of the next generation rests on the teachers’ shoulders. Pupils, university students, and seminarians who grow under the guidance of a teacher will put into use the skills and knowledge they have acquired in the not-too-distant future. Moreover, in their morals, conduct, and speech in various arenas – from inside the warmth of the family circle, to the workplace, and in the public square – they will be like mirrors reflecting the behavior and words of their teachers.

⚙️ Furthermore, the field of labor is a vast landscape that’s as wide as the country is itself. It extends from within homes, offices, businesses, and mosques to farms, workshops, factories, mines, and a myriad of service-related occupations. The more this expansive field benefits from the two elements of hard work and commitment, which are known to be the pillars of any great success, the more completely and effectively the country’s progress is guaranteed.

👨‍🔧 We know that with commitment and excellence in action, a worker sometimes attains such a status that it’s fitting to kiss their capable, skillful hands in gratitude and appreciation, just as one would kiss the caring hands of a teacher or mentor. Of course, this is something that starts in the embrace of one's primary educators – that is, one’s parents – and subsequently continues by being in the presence of a teacher.

🇮🇷 After more than 47 years of struggle and with reliance on Divine Grace, the Islamic Republic of Iran has now demonstrated a portion of its remarkable capability to the world in the military battle against the enemies of its progress and spiritual growth. It must likewise spoil their hopes and defeat them in the stages of economic and cultural jihad.

🪖 Teachers are the most effective link in the cultural battle, and workers are among the most influential elements in the economic struggle. This is to such an extent that one may claim these two are the backbone of the cultural and economic spheres. Consequently, it’s necessary for them to be fully cognizant of the significance of their unique position, which is more than just an occupation for which a wage is received.

💌 Concurrently, it must be noted that while annual or periodic verbal tributes are appropriate and fitting, the appreciation of the efforts of these two sectors in society must be deeper and more practical than just those measures. I am of the view that just as the dear nation of Iran offers fitting support to the country’s military forces by being present in the streets and public squares, it is likewise appropriate that they demonstrate strong support for our teachers and workers.

👥 Among other measures, the assistance of the families of pupils and university students in the administration of schools and universities must be facilitated more than ever before. Furthermore, productive workers must be supported by prioritizing the use of domestically manufactured goods. Specifically, business owners – especially those whose businesses have been adversely affected – should refrain from workforce reductions and layoffs in both the production and service sectors as much as possible. Instead, they should regard each worker as being an asset to their enterprise. Of course, the honorable administration should support this benevolent approach too to the extent it can.

🇮🇷 Just as our beloved Iran has emerged as a military power following years of endeavor, God willing and by divine grace, it will continue to traverse the path toward the peak of progress and excellence. This shall be achieved by delineating the contours of an Iranian-Islamic identity and ingraining it ever more deeply in the minds and souls of the country’s youth by way of our educators and teachers, as well as by prioritizing the use of domestically produced goods, which are the fruit of the labor of Iran's diligent workers. And this, by the will of God, will be accomplished more swiftly and effectively with the auspicious prayers and intercession of our Master [Imam Mahdi (aj)]. May God’s greetings, mercy, and blessings be upon you.

One lesson to learn for other nations from Iran's "strategic investments" in missiles is the hard trade offs she was willing to make. The Iran Air Force was basically jettisoned as a serious fighting force, for example. So was a 'proper' navy. Many western nations, my own included, get caught up in trying to do everything. Iran thought seriously about how it might win the sort of war it would probably fight, and invested in that at the expense of other lobbying centres. Not an easy playoff, but one that others would do well to make. Otherwise you might end up with one available destroyers, two air craft carriers, a couple of score of highly capable fighter jets, a hundred working tanks, but a tiny army, hardly any missiles, and a practically non-existent air defence.

[–] supafuzz@hexbear.net 22 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

practically non-existent air defence.

This war has proven that the only air defense that is worth a damn is to Always Be Tunneling.

[–] Formerlyfarman@hexbear.net 16 points 8 hours ago

Yep, Ir defence is a scam, a gorrillion different American systems couldn't stop 2 F4s. But because of conservation of momentum, no existing weapon can penetrate a few dozen meters of soil.

World's most pointless aerospace company unveils new model of world's most pointless spacecraft. A few decades ago Sir Richard Branson decided that the future of spaceflight was glorified vomit-comets, and surprise surprise they're struggling to make the business work. They just unveiled a new version of their joyride spaceplane, which has led to a lot of people scratching their heads and wondering why they bothered to build it.

[–] NonWonderDog@hexbear.net 1 points 3 hours ago

Forgive me but I actually think it’s really cool that it looks like the Delta-Glider from Orbiter.

[–] LeonTreatsky@hexbear.net 9 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (2 children)

Does this new version also rely on the pilots physical strength and mechanical linkages to fight supersonic aero forces? There's a reason others haven't tried to build a supersonic plane with steering technology reminiscent of the first 20 years of flight, even if it saves a little weight.

Does it also still have the manually operated self destruct feathering button that must be pressed at exactly the right time to prevent the craft being torn apart - but - if pressed at the wrong time will actually completely fucking annihilate spacecraft and kill the test pilots again?

If they put this Icarusgate contraption into actual operation it's just going to be an elaborate way place polymarket bets on dead billionaires.

In the rare moments this week where they're not talking about "antisemitism" the right wing media in the UK has been very obsessed with surrogacy, specifically they want to end it. This has been all over multiple tv news channels this week.

For context, paid surrogacy is already not a legal thing here, you only have voluntary unpaid surrogacies and/or the people that go abroad to pay. They are promoting people that want to end all surrogacy.

I've been thinking it over all day because I don't believe for one second that they give a shit about women or any of the reasons they claim to have been pushing this. It's dawned on me that what they actually want is to give the child the "right" to be raised by their biological parents. They are trying to strengthen the nuclear family and the idea of innate bonds that can only exist between biological parents and children. If you give the child this "right" then you destroy all possible familiy types that aren't the nuclear family.

[–] Transform2942@lemmy.ml 16 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Putting together a few different comments. I noticed the groups that benefit from surrogacy:

  • professional women (customer)
  • Non-Traditional couples (customer)
  • poor women (seller)

It has a kind of Nixonian pure evil logic to it

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 5 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

It's also like, adding "perk" of being a woman if only you are capable of creating these bonds if they are innate. If you make that a fundamental belief of society then any women who reject that are essentially attacking a perk of womanhood that other women believe in. You can set the group against itself, the women that buy into the trad perks and pseudo spirituality vs anyone who exists outside of that.

This would work similarly to how men react so negatively to other men that display femininity through rejecting their patriarchal benefits by being queer or non-standard. Homophobia is so much stronger against gay men than gay women because men that buy into their patriarchal benefits feel threatened by men who exist outside the patriarchal norm, setting the group(men) against itself.

If they build enough perks of trad womanhood then you build a pile of women who hate and react viciously to any women that exist outside of that in the same way. This is kind of what the terf movement feels like in a way.

[–] CriticalXipport@hexbear.net 12 points 9 hours ago

good analysis

[–] mkultrawide@hexbear.net 17 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I am generally aware that the immediate context is the gay couple that had a surrogate in the US and are now trying to get their parental rights officially approved in the UK. My suspicion is that some portions of the conservative movement are also pushing this to pressure women into having children at a younger age.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 5 points 6 hours ago

Yeah that seems to be the trigger for it and now they're trying to open the floodgates.

Their interest in this is definitely because of the nuclear family though, if you give a child this "right" and you sell this idea of innate bonds between biological parents and children then you can force this family unit as the only type of family.

My suspicion is that some portions of the conservative movement are also pushing this to pressure women into having children at a younger age.

Think of it as creating a perk of being a woman. The innate bonds between mother and child can ONLY be found between biological mother and child then you're creating this almost pseudo-religious belief in the power of women as baby factories. The culture they very much want to create is one where women are proud of being baby factories and that requires building up a whole pseudo-religion of it-is-known spiritual beliefs around pregnancy, womanhood and children.

If you create a "right" for the child to be raised by biological parents you're building the infrastructure of that culture. You're saying as a society, in law about children, that biological bonds are innately stronger than any other. The ultimate goal is sincerely a system in which women are happy and proud and sincere participants in reinforcing that culture.

The best way to go about doing that without receiving resistance from women is to do so indirectly. To build a cage around women without them noticing, by selling it as "improving the rights of children" in this case, or attacking trans people in other cases, and so on.

[–] aanes_appreciator@hexbear.net 19 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

real fascism hours when you have to start digging deeper into why the bourgeoisie are getting their horndog on over specific policies

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 3 points 6 hours ago

Yeah in this case I think it's part of the infrastructure for making women into tradwives.

[–] mkultrawide@hexbear.net 30 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (1 children)

Spirit Airlines is planning to cease operations (and likely wind down/liquidate the business) unless it's bondholders accept a deal from the White House that would give the airline $500M in return of stock warrants (more or less like call options, but they are issued by the company) that would grant the US government (or someone in the Trump admin, probably) the right to buy up to 90% of the airline. All of this probably could have been avoided if the Biden admin had not blocked the proposed JetBlue-Spirt merger on grounds that it would hurt competition and eliminate low-cost airline options. The airline has been performing poorly for a while, but the increase in jet fuel costs as a result of Trump's war with Iran is likely going to be the final nail in the coffin of the airline unless a deal gets done.

how the fuck does it take an entire month to count votes for an election.

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 6 points 2 hours ago

Before they can count half the remaining votes they have to count half of those votes, but before they can count those they have to count half of those and so on ad infinitum.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Sayyid Mojtaba Khamenei, issued a message on the occasion of Workers' Day and Teachers' Day on May 1, 2026. The full text of his message is as follows:

In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful

The 11th and 12th of Ordibehesht [April 30 & May 1] are days dedicated to honoring the dignity of workers and the lofty status of teachers. In addition to verbal, symbolic praise, which is appropriate and proper, the progress of any country depends on two essential wings: knowledge and action.

Teachers play a pivotal role in the first stage of realizing this goal.

Furthermore, the field of labor is a vast landscape that’s as wide as the country is itself.

We know that with commitment and excellence in action, a worker sometimes attains such a status that it’s fitting to kiss their capable, skillful hands in gratitude and appreciation, just as one would kiss the caring hands of a teacher or mentor. Of course, this is something that starts in the embrace of one's primary educators – that is, one’s parents – and subsequently continues by being in the presence of a teacher.

After more than 47 years of struggle and with reliance on Divine Grace, the Islamic Republic of Iran has now demonstrated a portion of its remarkable capability to the world in the military battle against the enemies of its progress and spiritual growth. It must likewise spoil their hopes and defeat them in the stages of economic and cultural jihad.

Teachers are the most effective link in the cultural battle, and workers are among the most influential elements in the economic struggle. This is to such an extent that one may claim these two are the backbone of the cultural and economic spheres. Consequently, it’s necessary for them to be fully cognizant of the significance of their unique position, which is more than just an occupation for which a wage is received.

Concurrently, it must be noted that while annual or periodic verbal tributes are appropriate and fitting, the appreciation of the efforts of these two sectors in society must be deeper and more practical than just those measures. I am of the view that just as the dear nation of Iran offers fitting support to the country’s military forces by being present in the streets and public squares, it is likewise appropriate that they demonstrate strong support for our teachers and workers.

Among other measures, the assistance of the families of pupils and university students in the administration of schools and universities must be facilitated more than ever before.

Just as our beloved Iran has emerged as a military power following years of endeavor, God willing and by divine grace, it will continue to traverse the path toward the peak of progress and excellence.

NBC: Trump says he doesn't need congressional authorization for military operations in Iran, citing ceasefire

President Donald Trump on Friday sent letters to Congress explaining that, due to the ceasefire, he doesn't need its authorization for military operations in Iran, even though the conflict hit the 60-day mark this week.

"On April 7, 2026, I ordered a two-week ceasefire. The ceasefire has since been extended. There has been no exchange of fire between the United States Forces and Iran since April 7, 2026. The hostilities that began on February 28, 2026, have terminated," Trump wrote in the letters, one of which went to the House and one of which went to the Senate.

This is some Zeno's Arrow type shit. If the US stops shooting for 1 femtosecond, does that count as a cessation of hostilities that resets the countdown?
