If he'd read the words of the prophets, he'd see the Israelites were frequently driven from their land for disobeying God. The prophets said they will get the land back when God gives it to them at the end of the world. 1) It's not the end of the world and 2) God has not given them the land. I listened to an interview with a former Zionist (he met Palestinians and was like these are just people?? And we're just killing them???) and he said at the heart of Zionism is the idea that they don't need to wait for God to give them their land back; they can take it now by force! So don't hide behind the Torah. Anyone who knows anything knows that's not a valid reason.

I mean they definitely are trying to reach Nuclear Armageddon.

[–] TheBroodian@hexbear.net 35 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm not a believer, but if I were a believer, I would think that the idea of trying to force God's hand with Nuclear Holocaust sure sounds like heresy.

Christians: Satan is conniving and always trying to lead believers away from god.

Evangelicals: God actually wants us to kill every person on the planet so we can all go to heaven.

How does the average Christian not see evangelicals as the foot soldiers of Satan?

[–] marxisthayaca@hexbear.net 18 points 3 weeks ago

The avg christian is an evangelical (at least in America). When I arrived to America, I was horrified. I was an atheist for a good long while.

I am a (Liberation Theology) Catholic, and, while I lack statistical data, I suspect the Catholic Church has similar problems to Evangelicals. Evangelicals get (almost exclusively) the bad fame because they are (at least here in Brazil) a new movement, and a minority. Also, they are very "conspicuous" (to use a polite word!), with ministers (including politicians) yelling and using violent and prejudiced terms, and even speaking "in tongues".

But conservative Catholics cause a similar amount of evil, while being more sophisticated. In Brazil, representative Marcel van Hattem is an evil maniac, and people don't associate him with Catholic theocracy but he was installed by Catholic money.

In Spain, a bitter ex-member of Opus Dei denounced: every male Opus Dei member volunteered to fight alongside the Nazis in WWII to kill the Red Army (which was Mankind greatest hope against the Nazis). Opus Dei spokesperson did not deny it; he "contextualized" it by saying every other Catholic organization is Spain did the same. And the brutal fascist Franco himself was installed and maintained with very strong Catholic (and Nazi) support.

The Ukrainian Catholic authorities collaborated with the Nazi Army. As late as September 2025 the Vatican News justified this Nazi collaboration because it was done not out of "ideological sympathy", but to free Ukraine from the Soviets. Excuse me? Nazis hated Slavs (such as Ukrainians) about as much as they hated blacks, gays and Jews. They would colonize Ukraine with genocide and ethnic cleansing. And that is justified because you wanted capitalism back?

This reads like this: we admit we sacrificed a million children and drank their blood to summon Lucifer and make him absolute King, but it was only a pragmatic pact with Satan for political goals, so it is OK!

These same people say a raped woman cannot have an abortion because the ends do not justify the means.

Even if it was verbatim in the Torah it would still not be a valid reason because it's just a book.

Breno Altman, a secular Jew, is a very prominent Brazilian anti-Zionist journalist. He explains that the political doctrine of Zionism enacted a religious reform. The traditional doctrine 'Israel will be rebuilt after the Messiah comes" was replaced by "the Messiah will come after Israel is rebuilt". Some Orthodox Jews still refuse this reform and are anti-Zionist.

Altman also says that equating anti-Zionism with antisemitic racism is analogous to equating anti-Nazism with anti-German racism.

Breno Altman even got a criminal conviction (which would cause prison term) for his anti-Zionist journalism. Last I checked, he was appealing it.

I really like him. He is extremely knowledgeable about history and politics. His family has roots in anti-Zionism and communism. Two great-aunts of him volunteered to take arms and fight the Nazis. One was fatally shot. The other was buried alive. One grandfather was a member of the Brazilian Communist Party (PCB). When he heard about Khrushchev's Secret Speech, he lost his sanity and later took his life.

Breno Altman, besides reporting and analyzing news, makes very interesting lectures on Historical subjects. His lectures on the Russian Revolution and Stalin are very interesting. When asked about Stalin's greatest mistakes, his first reply was "supporting the creation of the State of Israel".

He claims he has no relation to Sam Altman, despite the shared surname and Sam Altman being (I think) also a Jew.

I didn't know that this reversal had taken place! It is strange to me how this doesn't appear to Zionists as outright heresy. I guess it's not terribly unlike evangelicals thinking they can rush Jesus' return by nuking the planet.

This is not a faithful transcription. The real one is about 2% less bad. Still bad, but neither more nor less than the tired argument that the fighting is essentially religious, not a question of human rights, sovereignty, occupation, etc. I don’t think he means that Palestinians need to believe in the Torah, they “just” need to agree that the land belongs to the Jews… (in the form of an apartheid state ofc)

My transcription:

The view of Palestinians is simple: “Well, the Europeans treated the Jews badly, culminating in the Holocaust, and they gave them our land as compensation.”

Of course, we say it’s our land; the Torah says it. But they don’t believe in the Torah.

So, that’s the reason there is not peace. They invent other reasons, but they do not believe in a Jewish state. And that is why we, in America, must stand strong with Israel through thick and thin. We must. Because that is the reason, not any of these other false shibboleths, why there is not peace in the Middle East. Too many people do not understand that, here in America.

[–] Wertheimer@hexbear.net 22 points 3 weeks ago

It's also from 2018, if anyone else got the impression it was more recent.

A contemporary reaction, with some more choice quotations from Democrats:

We know that Israel would prefer to keep the sword of freedom sheathed… [But if war comes] We will stand on the side of our one true ally in the Middle East.

That's then-senator now-prisoner Robert Menendez hitting Trump from the right on Iran.

I have not seen a security situation as immediately threatening as today… … Iran [is] increasingly and aggressively challenging Israel…

When Iran and Russia challenge Israel directly they are also challenging the United States.

That's still-senator Chris [slur filter]s of Delaware.

The Levantine is where we belong, it’s promised to us in the Torah, we lived here once and ergo it is the only homeland of the Jews.

Also, it’s antisemitic to not let Israel compete in Eurovision because we are most definitely Europeans. What do you think we are, one of those dirty Middle Easterners?

[–] QuillcrestFalconer@hexbear.net 37 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

America's existence is never mentioned in the Torah, this is why America should be nuked into oblivion

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 13 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

America is the entity that is the anti christ, it appeared attractive to many and yet embodies the exact antithesis of any sense of Christian morality even as it drapes itself in the religion's skin. It's now attempting to apotheose its wretchedness in its feverish attempts to create a general AI

Edit: i guess that's still not in the torah tho

[–] Wertheimer@hexbear.net 5 points 3 weeks ago

I haven’t seen it but I assume that’s the plot of the 1970 film Torah! Torah! Torah!

The reddit atheism is returning to my body. Gross.

[–] jorge@lemmygrad.ml 25 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

There is legitimate criticism of religion, but New Atheism is pure evil. They are the other side of Ann Coulter. She said (like an Orc) to invade Muslim countries, kill their leaders and convert the population to Christianity. Harris and Hitchens use more sophisticated words that essentially boil down to: invade Muslim countries, kill their leaders and kill as many people as necessary to forcibly convert the rest into secular liberalism.

Both promote imperialistic wars and both have the blood of a million people on their hands. They just adapt the discourse to different listeners.

We need Woke 2 and Atheism 3

[–] Juice@midwest.social 19 points 3 weeks ago

Its true that there hasn't been peace in the middle east since before the Naqba, that's the point of the state of Israel. Since WWI imperialists desired a state that could be used as a forward operating base for keeping the former Ottoman Empire from ever reuniting in any form.

Torah said possession of the land is highly conditional. That it's more a lease than a deed.

Just like Linsey Graham, but with less frothing of the mouth.

I've been screaming for this insipid back-stabbing hump to be run out of office for years. At least we are finally hearing Democrats openly discuss his exit, which is the first step to his end. Once they start talking like that, the end is onevitable. His leadership will not survive the Midterms. Once that's over, the MAGA comedy act of Schmuck & Jeffries will get the hook, and be dragged off stage. Schmuck can go be a Senator in Israel, since he cares more about them than his own constituents.

There is nothing I hate more than a religious freak claiming that just because their stupidity is in enshrined in the Bible, or the Torah, or the Koran, they are automatically, inarguably correct. It's a book of historical fiction, nothing more. Nothing is more stupid than making governmental decisions based on that.

And it's unConstitutional, Schmuckie.
