bit premature to call a couple users on social media discussing something a 'revolution'

Too late. The patriarchy has fallen and I'm fucking pissed. I asked my mom to bring me an icecream sandwich and she told me "you can get your own now."

This has always bothered me as well. I remember going to eat at my dad's friend's house when I was very little. His friend was from Pakistan. His wife made all the food and gave it to everyone then stood in the corner and watched.

I remember asking my dad why she didn't eat too and the look of mortification on my parents' faces and the friend's face told me I should never have questioned it and nobody answered.

My partner is from Sri Lanka and she and her mother do this as well, just out of habit, because that's just how it always was for them.

I don't agree with it and I've pushed back on it, but they used to get very upset that you dare question it.

They've relaxed it a bit over the past few years and it's no longer the hard and fast rule and they don't tend to do that anymore, but it used to be extremely upsetting to them that I didn't just go along with it.

This used to very much be a thing in Finland as well when I was a kid, especially in rural areas. My extended family had a farm and my grandma would go there to "cook for the men" and make such a fuss about being "out of the way" when the men came to eat.

You were expected to be out of sight and serving them when they marched into a ready made table and then left again. It pissed me off so much and boy did I rebel against it, earning the title of being difficult.

Yeah we have neighbors from Finland who showed us a bunch of pictures of family dinners and grandma was always at the edge of the dining room waiting in the doorway while everyone else was eating.

Lmao, what the fuck? I've never seen such bullshit and it's wild to me that it exists somewhere and not only in the distant past.

Yeah it's still very much alive in the world in various places and cultures.

It's tough out there for the ladies. A friend of mine is trying to date in her late 40s and it's a fucking wasteland out there

That Elon had access to all this information and has learned nothing is beyond me. I wish a genie would curse him with a soul so I could see him sobbingly commit seppuku live on television 🍿
