"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

But a microwave doesn't tell me my struggles are real and i did a great job by doing 5 dishes today....

[–] HotsauceHurricane@lemmy.world 6 points 5 hours ago

Me: Hey microwave export this info into a spreadsheet. Microwave:

Conclusion: same results as GPT, microwave wins.

Don’t get me wrong, this is funny, but patently false

Damn, I checked using their website, that’s why.

I actually got this idea after testing it on Anthropic Claude, I’m still laughing at the fact our most advanced chatbots are struggling to do something as simple as that.

Is this in response to the TikTokker who asked ChatGPT to time his mile run? Asking because it vent fairly viral and the CEO even reacted to it. That may be why they pushed the feature out. I believe the user's name was Husk.

But, can a microwave help me commit war crimes and bomb children?

[–] FederatedFreedom1981@lemmy.ca 8 points 6 hours ago

Sure, if you put explosives into it then throw it out the back of a plane or something.

Microwave imaging is used militarily, and in 2025 the US military did a public test of the Leonidas microwave weapon system to simultaneously knock out nearly 50 drones.

Microwave wins

Microwaved french fries is a warcrime.

My mouth got grainy just reading this.

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 4 points 7 hours ago

Actually when doing war crimes you want to be indiscriminate... The less precise and accurate you are, the more destructive and terrible you're considered.

You could probably do this with a microwave on a small scale without having to buy pricey long range weaponry

[–] Canconda@lemmy.ca 2 points 7 hours ago

It would take a while... but honestly this sounds kind of like some of the weaponry being used on peaceful protestors.

Both serve up old rehashed garbage slightly worse than the original. Yup.

"AI" is just a shitty microwave.

Microwaves don't deserve to be lumped in with shitty Hungry Man dinners. Or AI for that matter!

When paired with an air fryer they are perfect for ensuring meal preps like burritos are heated inside before toasting.

Also you can heat frozen rice which is healther because it lowers the glycemic index, reducing blood sugar spike and making the energy last longer in your body. On top of saving you 20 mins to cook rice for only 1-2 servings.

Also Microwaves work mostly by heating up the water in things. With that knowledge you can reheat foods such as chicken that would likely dry out using most other methods.

The whole "microwaves are killing us" is some hippy dippy bullshit. Most people would need to eat food that actually contains nutrients to begin with before they should worry about losing them during the cooking process.

Also the “wrap it in a damp paper towel” technique can help rejuvenate bread, muffins, and flour tortillas too!

I also bake brownies and cupcakes in the microwave and they come out pretty good!
